I shared with them the other shop's diagnoses. Wayne stated before he would "throw money at it" he was to do some testing. After a few days, Wayne found the problem. The code was for a ground, which was electrical not mechanical. The other shop wanted me to do a $1500 plus rebuild. Wayne spend two hours tracking the electrical problem to the transmission plug to the main computer was corroded. He charged me for two hours of labor and no parts and I was back on the road. First off let me say that I initially met with Lisa who was very friendly and seemed trustworthy…read more I explained to her that after a check engine light showed up I had Auto-zone run their scanner on my vehicle. They did so free of charge and returned error code P1757 recommending to replace the governor and possibly the transducer in the transmission. I further explained to Lisa that after the governor and the transducer were replaced, the check engine light returned with the error code P0868. She said they could do a full diagnostics for $150 made be a transmission specialist. She made a note of the recent history on my ticket. I told her I would leave the scanner reports and changed parts in my truck cab in case their technician needed to refer to them. A few hours later, a gentleman who I believe to be the owner called me, saying that they would need me to approve an expense of $600 to $900 for them to finish the diagnostic, because they would need to drop the pan to go further into figuring out what is wrong. I declined and asked when I could pick up my truck. He said he would have to see because they would first have to put my truck back together if I was declining to go any further. I confirmed I wanted my truck back and he said he could have it ready later in the day. When I got there i asked what they had done. it turns out they had only plugged in their scanner and printed out the report. The same type of report I had told them Autozone had done for free and that I had left for their convenience in my truck. I paid my $156 and asked to see the report. obviously it returned the exact same two error codes P0868 and P1757. Nothing more. It took them all but 3mn to start the engine, plug in the scanner, turn off the engine then plug the scanner into their computer and print out the report. So when I remembered that over the phone, the owner had claimed that if I wanted my truck back he would have to see to "put it back together" this was a huge red flag as to their honesty and straight forwardness. When I asked him in person why they did not do more diagnostics then simply running a scanner, when they knew I had already done so, he responded that he was not going to have his guys drop the transmission pan for $150. I would not have had a problem if he had been upfront and had explained that his diagnostics would be nothing more than plugging a scanner. i would have likely skipped that step and asked how much it would cost me to get an actual professional transmission diagnostic. When I got home from their shop, I was surprised to realize that my box with the parts and diagnostics report made by Autozone were no longer in my truck. Needless to say I will find someone else to work on my vehicle.

As a long time gear head I felt hopeful but knew there was a deeper problem like the lock up clutch in the torque converter . I called around NSB and spoke with Gary. He has been at this magic for many years and his discussion made sense to fix it right AND he started on the repair right away. Ford engineers did not make it easy for maintenance but 24 hours later my van was driving and shifting smooth as silk . Don't let the parts strung all over his shop detour you. I was having some minor transmission issues with slow shifting and slipping when making tight turns…read moreso my mechanic, John at US Auto Works recommended that I take my truck to Jeff's. John had just finished doing a bunch of work on it, doing the rears and a few other things 24 hours before I got it to Jeff's. John and I stood under the truck and he pointed out all that he had done and why he was recommending a Transmission shop for the rest of the work. The underside of my truck was dry as a bone. Always has been. No leaks ever. Jeff called me later that day to say that my transmission was pretty close to shot and that he didn't want to do the service because he didn't think it was going to fix my problem. He didn't charge me a cent, which I thought was pretty cool of him. But when I got to the shop to pick up my truck, he had no recommendations on what I should do next and sort of implied that I should find a used replacement or just let this one die. That bothered me a little, so I immediately drove the truck back to John to let him know what had happened. On hearing the news he put the truck back on the lift and it was soaked! There was transmission fluid from bell housing to fuel tank! It was EVERYWHERE! My mechanic told me to take it to Ford have them do the service, which I did. Ford just called me to explain that the leak was caused by overfilling. They also explained that the last shop (Jeff's) should have put it on the computer and checked for codes before dropping the pan... The long and short is that the transmission service should have cost me about $140, but now that I took it to Jeff's it's going to cost nearly $500! I'll be the first to admit that NONE of this makes any sense. I can't imaging why my car would both get messed up AND have "nothing done" AND there would be no charge when it's clear he did something. I'm out $360 additional dollars to clean up a mess Jeff made for free. I don't recommend the place. Not at all.
