I have been to this center twice. The first time, I was an overly paranoid dog-mom to a newly…read moreneutered pup that seemed overly lethargic. It turned out to be nothing. Still, at 2 in the morning, a really awesome doctor talked me through why I shouldn't worry, got to know my guy, and since there was nothing wrong with him, I didn't get charged anything. The fact that I was not nickel-and-dimed for a problem that didn't exist earned this place my trust. Last night, one of the worst things happened. My dog of 15 years went from being her sparkle-eyed, tippy-tappy, singing and dancing self in the span of 24 hours and by midnight, she was puking blood and couldn't get her tongue back in her mouth. I came straight over. There's always this shame with vets. I've had experiences where I can see the looks, the grumbles, the judgements. When you're poor, you let appointments slide, you want to do better for your animals, but you can't always. My husband and I have been battling foreclosure for the last year or so, and we let some things that didn't seem pressing slide. The woman at the front desk didn't shame me when I said I wasn't up to date on Molly's vaccines or bloodwork. She didn't shame me when I talked about her bad teeth. She saw the scared human in me and offered grace. I didn't get her name or the nurse tech's name, but the doctor introduced herself as Angel. Different pronunciation, I'm probably spelling it wrong actually. But it fits. She was exactly what I imagine an angel to be. She was direct. She told me my options. She explained that my dog was essentially a 90 year old in dog years. I couldn't afford the treatment to even try to get my girl back. End stage kidney disease. My husband wasn't with me, so I had to face this decision alone. Angel sat with me, held my hands, offered what comfort she could, asked about how I was feeling. I've been through a euthanasia before with another dog. I was not allowed to hold my other dog. I was panicked and I knew my distress was scaring her, but I couldn't hold it in. I watched as her pupils dilated and her heart stopped and her body went limp. I read once that your sense of hearing is the last thing you lose in death, and for years I have carried the guilt of knowing that as her soul slipped away, the last thing she heard was her mama crying "no, oh my god, please no." But Wake Veterinary Medical Center gave me the chance and the ability to be strong for my baby. I was settled in a quiet room with my baby in my arms. I held her as she went. I held her after she was gone, until her body cooled, whispering how much I loved her. They didn't take away the pain of grief for me, but they eased the trauma of it. Molly's final moments were calm. She was held and safe and warm. That's more than my others got. I know I told the nurse tech that I knew it wasn't her job to manage *my* emotions, but she stayed and listened anyway. She held my baby like it was her baby. That's not common, from what I've seen. Something awful was not compounded on by judgmental stares and rolled eyes. I didn't get the chance to stop and thank them. I was numb by the time I left, just focused on not crashing my car on the way home. But I really, really wanted the people of this place to know how much everything they did meant to me. All three of the women I interacted with, thank you. You gave me something in my worst moments so I was able to be strong for my brave girl. Words aren't enough here. Just, thank you.

I have always taken my pets to Wake Vet Clinic for emergencies and have had relatively good…read moreexperiences. That all changed today when I called and spoke with the receptionist Danielle. I explained that my 9-week-old puppy had been involved in an accident and was suffering from a hip and/or leg fracture. Danielle was dismissive and stated the wait was at least 3 hours. When I described the pain and screaming my puppy was experiencing, she said, "there are way more emergency cases than a puppy with a broken leg here." She said I could go elsewhere if I didn't want to wait to be seen. We were already en route so I asked my husband if he thought we should continue or find another clinic. Without saying anything, Danielle hung up the phone on us. There are so many other things Danielle could have done such as explain the triage process, tell me she was busy and needed to go or provide me information about other emergency clinics I could try. Overall, I've never had a bad experience with the doctors or techs at Wake Vet Clinic but I hope they understand that the first person who answers the phone represents the company's mission and sets the tone for the entire patient experience and maybe even outcome for someone's pet.

I don't think I can say enough good things about this veterinary clinic. My wife's dog came up…read moreheartworm positive, and they are one of few places we found that follow the current protocol for treatment from the American heartworm association. First, my wife worked as a vet tech for a long time, and she was impressed with the doctor, the techs, and the office manager. We were both also surprised at how reasonable their prices are. We were told we would be looking at $1600-$1800 from several places, so we were very surprised when their cost was SIGNIFICANTLY less. After the first injection our dog got a lump at the injection site. They got him in right away, and did blood work and checked the lump itself. They called the manufacturer of the drug that kills the heartworm and they said it happens in about 10% of the cases and not to worry. When we went to pay for the visit, they told us not to worry about it and sent us on our way telling us to call if we had any questions or if anything changed. The next visit went very smoothly, my wife has her dog back and we don't have to worry about him suffering with heartworm. We had an emergency with out other dog (who had never been there) and they let us come in immediately after hours. When it turned out to be not much of an emergency after all, they were very nice about it. I also wanted to say that my wife is anxious and neurotic about veterinary clinics, having worked in them for a few years and in two countries- it isn't easy to impress her, and she loves this place. Dr. Jay, his office manager Jenn, and the whole staff have been really great to us. They truly went above and beyond to make a bad experience like finding out your dog (who has ALWAYS had prevention) has heartworm. They made this experience as pleasant as it could possibly be. Highly recommend this vet to anyone. Kind, reasonably priced, quick to help in an emergency- we are definitely happy we found them!

I had reached out to the practice over a week ago and was given a total price for our dog's…read moresurgery. I received a phone call at 4pm less than 24hrs. ahead of our dog's surgery advising I was given an incorrect pricing and that the actual price would be at least $200 higher than the amount I was originally given at the time of scheduling. The employee-Marie that called me chalked it up to "oh well she's a new employee". They refused to let me speak with a manager. This has been the worst experience I have had with a vet and would never recommend anyone to send their animal here (I had been warned from several other people and clearly should have listened). The WORST customer service I have ever seen. Our dog was having to be neutered for medical purposes and we were given a timeline of when it needed to be completed, as we were given a certain amount of antibiotics for him to have enough 2 weeks post-op...had we have known we could have made different arrangements...now we have to find another office to perform the surgery, as well as pay for additional antibiotics. Clearly a lack of new employee training, as well as office management..because who calls less than 24 hours before a scheduled surgery and says oh by the way you weren't informed there will be an additional cost. TERRIBLE!!!! Do you and your pet a favor and find somewhere else to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
