But when I witnessed other "patients" walking in, they were greeted with "Hello (Name), how are you? Upon my children's completed appointment, the receptionist states, "Call us to schedule their next cleaning" I felt like I was being chased out the door. I didn't object, I left. Upon calling the office days later, it was another unwelcome phone call. There was so much attitude in the receptionist's voice. I think I am done with this location. Racism is still present. Unfortunately, my recent experience was very disappointing. I currently do not have dental insurance and am a student, so I am paying out of pocket. I wanted to schedule a basic cleaning because I strongly believe in preventative care. However, I was told I would be required to enroll in an in-office plan that includes X-rays, in addition to paying for the cleaning itself. I explained that I cannot afford additional diagnostic costs right now and requested to decline new X-rays. The office already has X-rays from one year ago. I was told that due to "liability," they would not provide a cleaning without taking new X-rays and that there were no exceptions. As a result, I was refused care. It's discouraging that preventative care that helps patients avoid more serious and expensive problems is inaccessible without agreeing to additional services. For students and uninsured patients trying to stay proactive about their health, policies like this create unnecessary barriers. Unfortunately, I will either have to go without care until I can get insurance again or find somewhere else that actually provides accessible healthcare.

All of our questions were answered and the team followed up with us via phone call after surgery. While doing the 3D images for surgery Dr. Abt found that my son had an Odontoma. Dr. Abt did a wait and see approach and a year later we came back and the Odontoma has not grown and just appears to be sitting between the roots of two healthy adult teeth. His advice was to leave it alone because the risks outweigh the benefit. I highly recommend Dr. Abt, he is conservative in his approach and has a wonderful bedside manner and staff!

I was referred to Dr. Abt by my normal dental office for a tooth extraction. I had to make an appointment for an evaluation by Dr. Abt before I had another appointment for the extraction. I'm glad I wasn't in pain to have to wait for the second appointment. The office appeared nice, with plush couches in the waiting room area. The staff (appeared to be all female from what I saw, besides Dr. Abt) was nice and efficient. When I questioned about having to come back for a second appointment, I was told Dr. Abt performs his procedures only in the mornings. So I returned two days later for the extraction. I will say that the procedure did go fast, as I arrived about fifteen minutes early to my appointment and walked back out about five minutes after the appointment time. The actual extraction of the tooth was done okay. The reason I will never return to Dr. Abt was the anesthesia part. He basically just jabbed the needle into me and it was quite painful. I know that the needle has to go in and that it will be painful, but I also know that other dentist will do things to minimize the "discomfort". I have had dentist apply a topical anesthetic to the gum before putting in the needle. I have had dentist put the needle in just a little and inject a little anesthetic before moving the needle further. And I have had a dentist jiggle, or something like that, to my jaw as they insert the needle. And, I have had some do multiple things like that to make the experience more tolerable. Not like Dr. Abt, who just seemed to put the needle in as far as he could to get it done with.
