My primary physician referred me to Providence Montana Spine and Pain (PMSP) for a C-Spine…read moreinjection. A recent MRI indicated severe foraminal stenosis with probable impingement on several levels. For months, we tried PT, massage, chiropractor, anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxers, hypnotherapy, ice, heat, etc., with no relief from neck and back spasms and pain. I am an active and fit 74-year-old with absolutely no history of taking pain meds, nor was I seeking them. In fact, I had fractured my wrist one week prior to my appointment with PMSP and declined pain meds offered by the attending physician. PMSP required me to complete a lengthy questionnaire, watch 9 hours and 45 minutes of "Understanding Pain" videos prior to then having me meet with and be lectured by their psychologist for 45 minutes, who repeated precisely what she had stated in her videos. The psychologist was disrespectful, critical, judgmental, condescending, and arrogant. At no time was I treated with empathy or as an individual; instead, I was clumped with every human who might possibly be there for the sole purpose of seeking drugs. Additionally, this psychologist went beyond her scope and offered unwelcome and unsolicited medical opinions. The psychologist informed me that next I would be required to meet with a PA, which would require a long wait, resulting in another evaluation to determine whether I could receive an injection. Then, based upon that evaluation, there would be another long wait to see a physician. I truly believe that PMSP's priority is profits rather than patient care. This experience was time-consuming and frustrating; a complete waste of time and money. In fact, PMSP billed Medicare $307.00 for the 45-minute appointment they required me to have with their psychologist for what they submitted to Medicare as an "Assessment of Health Behavior" and "Screening for Depression". I seriously doubt that their PMSP psychologist could have properly evaluated my health behavior or mental state in 45 minutes since most of the appointment time was spent with her talking and lecturing me. How is that any of that justifiable when a patient has been treated and referred by their primary physician for a steroid injection? Had I known this is how I would have been treated by PMSP, I would have never completed the paperwork, watched the videos, or attended the appointment with their psychologist. No patient, especially someone who has experienced pain for months and has done everything possible to address their discomfort, should be treated so poorly. This also should be considered a delay in care. On 9/16/25, I called PMSP to let them know I would not be returning and asked to speak to the practice manager. My request is noted in Providence's online chart. As of this date, 10/9/25, there has been no return call from PMSP. They simply don't care about their patients. Hopefully, this review will spare someone from having a similar experience.

There was virtually no wait to be taken into an examination room which was well stocked and very clean. We really appreciated Dr. Hutchin's keen eye and thorough exam resulting in an excellent description of his findings in a clear explanation we could understand. The follow up tests he ordered and the efficiency of getting them done at another Providence facility just emphasized the quality of this providers care! Though we hope we don't have the need in the future but if we do need medical care we will be happy to see all those friendly faces as we seek it from Dr. Hutchin's.

Recently I went to Five Valley Urology in Missoula. I was set up for radiation. I had to figure details out for myself but that was okay. I needed a PSA as a follow up. Because I did not want to rely totally on Five Valleys I asked my physician for a PSA. She told me I could not get one because I was in the care of Five Valley. I said okay and followed their directions to get my PSA with Five Valley. When I followed their instructions those involved said they had never heard of me, checked their hospital records and said nothing existed. I called them and asked them "What the Fuck is going on". The person who I talked to was very offended that I said "Fuck". At that time I felt if people dying of cancer was not a priority and saying the word "Fuck" was a priority, I wanted to go through somewhere I could get a PSA so I told them to cancel all appointments and got a new primary physician so I could get a PSA. Later I got a notice that I had an appointment June 25th. I responded I cancelled all appointments and was perusing my own PSA. They responded that I could not do that because I was "under their care" I responded I did not want to be under their care and to cease this as I wanted a PSA. They sent me to John Conner their CEO. I tried to explain the problem but he talked over me. I put down the phone. He said I know you are there. I told him I would talk to him if he did not talk over me. He would not let me terminate care. He said something was wrong with me because I was angry. I told him "you would be angry too if you had cancer and people were sabotaging your ability to get care. He said there was something wrong with me because I would not discuss it with him. I told him to cut the bullshit and hang up. As I research I find this kind of behavior just might be habitual. (I will work on verifying this some more.) This violates The Right of Individual Privacy (Article II, Section 10, Montana's 1972 Constitution contains an explicit, standalone privacy clause: "The right of individual privacy is essential to the well-being of a free society and shall not be infringed without the showing of a compelling state interest." The Montana Supreme Court has consistently interpreted this text as a sweeping protection of personal and bodily autonomy. Under Montana case law, this clause shields an individual's right to make fundamental medical decisions, control their own body, and protect their physical integrity from government intrusion. I will be going to go through court to get an injunction against them so they cannot deprive me of getting a PSA. Talking to them does not seem to work.
