After calling around, though, I was very lucky to find Thomas's Gadgets to get it repaired. I dropped off the receiver at Thomas's and the issue was diagnosed and the part was ordered before I even got a call back from some of the other shops. The repair was completed and I had it back in only seven working days. They also worked on my keyless door openers that had been damaged by leaking batteries. These repairs saved me a lot of money, time and shipping delays. And I saw other items in their shop for repair including large flat screens and smaller electronics, too. Thomas's is located only about 1.5 miles from interstate 4 and I was asking myself how far I would drive to get work done there. My answer was at LEAST 50 miles. Probably farther. Communications about my repair issues were complete, timely and included photos of the problem. The estimated price range for repair was given and the final price was right in the middle of the range. Do not be put off by the storefront. As a former business owner I know that the way to keep prices low is to keep down overhead expenses. The savings are passed along to the customer at Thomas's. And do not let the shop's name fool you. This is a serious business that can solve serious electronic problems. At least one of the technicians has education and training in avionic electronics. If he can do repair work on a Cessna, he can probably solve your problem. I received a level of professionalism, efficiency and honesty from Thomas's Gadgets, Inc. that I have not experienced for a very long time, if ever.

With the remaining money that I had budgeted for the screen replacement I followed his advice and he purchased and installed a 1 Terabyte solid state hard drive to replace the current outdated disk drive. Both of these fixes were just $10 over what I had budgeted for the screen replacement alone. Just from talking with him a few minutes I was able to get a timeline of how long he has been working on computers. It's over two decades. I felt assured he was more than qualified and genuinely liked to fix computers. On a personal note. Kevin's attitude and professionalism is cool to be around. First my computers boot-loop problem was misdiagnosed as the cpu, which it turned out not to be one expensive purchase later. Then they lost my hard drive, and did not take accountability. In the end my problem couldn't be fixed across two different motherboards being ordered and swapped and I can't fault them for that in the case that they truly were defective and I just have terrible luck with motherboards, but that aside it would have been better if I had never taken it here because I'd still have $450 in my account from not having to swap a CPU and misplaced hard-drive. In the end I pulled the plug and picked up my still-broken desktop with the parts I'd given to them placed back in their boxes, NOT labeled like they said they would, and missing screws and a CPU socket-cover on one motherboard essentially voiding my opportunity to return that one. The one saving grace is they honored the guarantee on their website and did not charge me anything on pick-up, and that's really the only thing saving them from 1 star here and distinguishing this shop from a total con operation based off my experience and results. I wouldn't come back again for a complex diagnostic/fix on a gaming rig.
