I don't enjoy having my picture taken, so having a full-on photoshoot seemed daunting to me. That dread disappeared within the first 5 minutes of working with David. I needed headshots, and by luck found David's website. If you go there you can see why I was swayed. I sent a message over, asking about his schedule and got a message back pretty quickly. A month away...womp womp. But lo! A last minute opening that week! And coincidentally, just the right day for me to go home and be back in a day. It was in the cards. So I didn't have a consultation with David on a different day, but did talk with him about what I wanted right before. Kind of. I was pretty bad at it. He asked me what about his pictures/style I like and I don't know...how do you put it into words? If you know how, tell me, because I have yet the right ones. And Anna, his makeup & hair artist, was amaaazing. She is so incredibly sweet and worked so patiently with me. She has this energy that you know you can just absolutely trust to make you look like you, makeup-wise. Hair was another issue for me, because I needed new headshots badly, but my hair was not cooperating in the growth and styling department. After much hemming and hawing on my end of not being too happy with it, she got me, and make it look like how I have been wanting it (with very poor communication on my end). I got about 5 changes in for the shoot and David got the pictures back to me quick (I believe it was in a week). The great thing is he gives you all the untouched ones (web and print resolutions), so you have them in your file/dropbox. If you're like me and like minimal retouching anyway, it's a godsend to go back and look for another style you like. I've now used David Noles for headshots twice. The first time was 7 years ago and I absolutely LOVED my shots. They got me in the room for the roles that I was right for, which is the goal, right? Earlier this year, my friend went to David for headshots and after seeing the resulting photos I just fell. in. love. Since then, not only I, but also six more of my friends have gone to him. We are all thrilled! David is nice, funny, REALLY talented, and has great taste in music! He does not charge by the outfit, and his sessions have no time limit. I think I went through five different shirts in a little over two hours (hair/makeup took an additional two hours, so I was there for just over four hours in total) and. I got 350 photos on both Dropbox and Reproductions about five days later. He will let you keep ALL the photo files, and will even send you both print-sized and email-sized files (I cannot overemphasize how helpful this is)! I chose two final images to get retouched, but the image quality is so high that I could easily use any of the other photos if I ever feel like it. Since getting these photos I have been getting significantly more auditions than I did with my old ones, and everyone who sees my headshots oohs and aahs! David's process is much more like scheduling a personal shoot for a magazine. For my shoot, we met beforehand and talked for a good 2 hours about my personal preferences, locations, colors, environments, clothing, music, art, books, food, and more. David likes to get to know his clients before he shoots them so he can scout locations, devise backgrounds, and plan shots that are crafted for each client's specific needs. The day of the shoot, we drove to spots all over town and shot in his studio as well. He also told me to bring my iPod for the shoot and we listened only to whatever music I wanted to hear all day, which really inspired the shoot. Where other photographers, sat me in front a wall or in a chair quickly backgrounds behind me, David worked with different lighting, angles, and set-ups and spent more time with me. I first worked with David about six years ago when he was in LA. I booked him after exchanging a couple emails, which goes against what I recommend others do. But there was something about him that made me trust that we would hit it off. I was right. That first head shot he did for me was the single most successful shot I've ever had. This man changed my life!!!! To say that David Noles is merely talented, does not begin to express his gift. I was very picky in whom I was going to get to do my headshots. They are expensive and good ones last you 3-4 years. I met with many people and hands-down, David was the clear choice. He graciously had several conversations with me about his work ( I wasn't playing around), and everything that he said he could do- he did that, and more! I am ethnic so my biggest issue was finding a photographer that allowed my complexion to really pop, instead of being dull, which I have unfortunately experienced before- and I actually think that that is one of his strongest suits, amongst many. Another plus is that David has lived and shot in both coasts- so your getting pictures of a certain versatility in style, it is literally the best of both worlds!! He has a great eye for color- that helps with the "popping effect". Also what was so great for me as an actor is that he took the time to ask me questions- like what type of characters do I go in for, or what sides of me would I like to reveal- a really hands- on approach!!
