THE HIGHLIGHT OF OUR NIGHT!!! From start to finish David was pretty much the coordinator of events the night of our wedding. The first time I spoke with him over the phone I knew David was the guy for the job, he was so accommodating and helpful the entire time planning our wedding. We booked him almost 2 years ahead of time, he was always available to us for any questions, concerns of suggestions. We met with him twice at his office and he made us feel very comfortable and at ease with the choice that we made. I was very excited leading up to our wedding about the David Rothstein Band because of the videos I have seen, and my first hand experience with David. We were blown away by the intimacy David and his band brought to our wedding. My husband and I love Elvis Presley- Graceland's front steps is where my husband proposed to me. After getting to know us David had purchased a stand up cut out of Elvis (that also talked) to have all of our guests sign, along with a very unique Elvis PEZ dispenser. Then he helped us recreate the Entrance Song that Elvis played prior to every concert he performed in the 70's, which was our entrance song at our reception. To our surprise the band played an awesome Elvis Medley toward the end of the night & gave us Elvis sunglasses to wear while dancing to Elvis Hits!!! He really takes the time to get to know the bride and groom and it shows the night of the wedding. Overall, our guests and us were left speechless when the night was over. Anything I needed that night, David made it happen. Everyone loved how interactive the band was playing instruments on the dance floor and including the crowd in many of the songs choruses. I have pictures of my husband holding the Mic and singing with the lead singer-it doesn't get any cooler than that! We have heard many compliments from our guests but our favorites have been "Your wedding ruined it for any other wedding I will ever go to", "Nothing compares to this" and "I do not remember the last time I danced the entire night at a wedding"! My husband and I are so grateful we hired David Rothstein for our wedding. From the initial consultation to the day of, David was incredibly responsive, thoughtful, and excited to be a part of our big day! Pretty sure we had more compliments on our band than anything else - everyone loved them! We went with the ten piece band, which was perfect for our space and wedding with about 170 people. We also had a string quartet during the ceremony and a jazz trio during cocktail hour. There were tons of band configurations to choose from, and they play pretty much any song or musical style you could think of. We wanted to play some Arabic music during the reception for my husband's family, and the DJ worked with us to curate a playlist that could be played while the band took their breaks throughout the evening. We hired DRM for our daughter's wedding at the Museum of Science and Industry. I wanted a large band because the venue was so large. I expected guests would be exploring the exhibits and I hoped the music would carry. As it turned out, some guests explored but the vast majority stayed and danced. In fact, the dance floor was still busy when the evening ended at 12:30 am.We got many compliments on "the best band ever". David was very easy and pleasant to work with. He is well known in the Chicago wedding scene and he gets along with everyone. Something else that really impressed us about David was that he takes any unwanted flowers to distribute at senior citizen residences. The flowers aren't wasted and they make some seniors very happy. Overall we were very happy with the quality and energy of the band.  The vocalists and musicians are all extremely talented and our guests were extremely complimentary of the music and our overall reception.  We requested a first dance that was not on their song list and they played it very well.  We were extremely flexible on the songs they played and they chose great songs and the guests filled the dance floor the whole evening.  It truly is a highly talented band and our guests were engaged and complimentary.   We did strongly request that they not include "choreographed" wedding songs (line dances, etc.)  While they mostly honored that request, there was a choreographed piece that David taught our guests and told us to trust him on when he sat us on chairs to watch.  We obviously were not going to cause a scene and request a change of song but it was a bit awkward.  They also passed out a variety of party props midway through the dancing which completely surprised us.  Again, we were very relaxed about our wedding plans.  A couple that is not so easygoing would have to be very explicit about knowing what may and may not appear in the set list and as props.   David's emceeing of the event and some logistics had some room for improvement.  He was anxious to move the reception along.  He apparently stepped on the toes of the event coordinator at the club itself and started leading guests from the cocktail hour into the dinner and later rushing our guests (including the bride and groom) from dessert/coffee into the dance room.  In several conversations prior to the wedding, we discussed not wanting to feel rushed through dinner and not having much microphone use in the dining room.  All our guests heard about how our flowers would be donated through the band and David's personalized gift to us.  While those are great touches from the band, giving plugs for his band in a dining room was a bit awkward.  We had several discussions with David prior to the reception regarding the toasts.  His emceeing style was a bit overly "hyped up" for our venue (The Racquet Club).  It sounded a bit like we had a sports announcer for our introduction and the toasts.    We received many compliments on the band the night of our wedding and in the weeks following the wedding.  We actually did have a few questions from guests if we had hired the emcee separately from the band.  The band's talent and music speaks for itself.  If the emceeing was done as well as the band played we would absolutely give them 5 stars. read more

Needless to say, our expectations were very high for our own wedding. David and the band exceeded our expectations in every way possible. David spent a lot of time getting to know us and made our whole wedding very custom to us and our story. The band played a special Elvis dedication for my husband's grandmother and a Frank Sinatra piece for my grandparents. They LOVED it! All 280 guests were on the dance floor all night and everyone was raving about the band. We also hired the DJ and sax duo for an extra hour for an "after party" and it was INCREDIBLE! I will add my 5 stars to the many others on here. After attending many weddings in my lifetime, I don't think I have ever heard a band as versatile and talented as this one. The horn section, the back-up singers, the female vocalists, the young lady playing hip hop, the rapper, the woman who sang Etta James to perfection - it was just amazing the performance these many musicians pulled off. There was never a space on the dance floor because it was so crowded with dancers. The band engaged everyone so well -young and old - we all had a fantastic time, for hours! As an amateur musician myself (drummer) and self-professed music snob with a keen ear for quality musicianship, I cared most about the music for my wedding. We used the 11-piece David Rothstein band, with David Rothstein emceeing, and it far exceeded my already high expectations. You really don't get how good they are until hearing them live (and that's always the case with live music). Everyone had an amazing time and was raving about the band the whole night, and I've been hearing about it from friends several weeks after the fact. Some specific things to note: - David did a great job emceeing and had some surprises and personalized touches up his sleeve. He also was able to take some video, which was great, because we didn't have a videographer. - I had some song requests that weren't in the band's catalog, and they did a great job playing them, all of which were challenging pieces of music. - Everyone in the band is an excellent musician, and all of them had great enthusiasm through the WHOLE night, which makes a big difference to the overall experience. The singers in particular had great stage presence, which is key. - As a drummer, I am most qualified to speak to the drumming, and in my opinion, the drummer is make or break for a band. They're laying down the groove that's going to make the music feel good and get people dancing. David's drummer, Y.L. Douglas, is absolutely top notch. It was such a treat for me to be able to listen and dance to his playing. - The band played 3 sets, and in between we had a DJ. She was excellent. I received several compliments about her. She was super enthusiastic and did a great job mixing tunes. It was nice to have this variation in music through the night. - The band was very friendly and flexible. It wasn't planned, but people were asking me to play a tune on drums, and the band was super inviting and accommodating. My sister also joined on trumpet. I could go on and on. 5 stars. I may be biased, and like most brides, I think all components of my wedding were awesome: band, food, decoration, dress, etc...! With that being said, I am continuously told how great the band was. The whole night was a blur [due to nerves, energy, and excitement -not the open bar ;)] but I remember thinking I can't tell the difference between when the band was playing or when they had the DJ going during their break. That's how crisp, spot on, and good they are at covering all of your favorite music. The band created such a romantic vibe for my first dance and cocktail hour sounded so swanky. During the reception, the guests were continuously dancing! David introduced me to an idea of guest dancing between courses to keep the movement going and my guests, young and old, are still complimenting me on that concept. David can definitely get your stiffest of guest up and moving by verbal encouragement, great music, humor, and dancing games. My 80+-year-old neighbor was on the dance floor all night. I had a wedding guest with a visual impairment and another guest who was in a wheelchair and David made them feel comfortable and incorporated ways to include them on the dance floor too, which was important to me. In addition to that kindness, David made sure acknowledge my husband's military service and his tour to Iraq with the gift of a camo Veteran's Day Blackhawks jersey with our last name on the back as well as a small military discount which meant a lot. I don't even know where to start. When we started the search for a wedding band for our January 2016 winter wedding, we were looking for good music. David Rothstein not only provided good music, but also a fantastic party, professional quality and a personal touch unlike any other music vendor. David called me first hand during the decision making process and made me feel so comfortable by cracking jokes and showing a genuine interest in our wedding day. My husband and I decided to hire David Rothstein's 6 piece band. Up until the wedding day we were in constant contact with David and even met with him a handful of times to work out all of the details. On the day of our wedding, they were all on time, dressed for the occasion and ready to start the party. The band was so talented, they made the party of 120 feel like 300 and they were even able to accommodate some traditional Polish songs. The performance was flawless and our guests were on the dance floor the entire night. David was a wonderful MC. His energy is contagious and his passion for the job is so obvious that it makes the party that much more fun. He practiced all of the difficult, Polish names in my bridal party until he had them completely accurate. David was even there at the end of the night to help my husband and I with the one detail we forgot to plan for, a ride home! There is just too much to say! David & his band were incredible. People are STILL talking about the energy at our wedding. Even our other vendors couldn't get over how well everything came together. DRM was one of the first bands we came across when researching for our wedding (4/16/16, yes I'm a little behind schedule on this review!). We met with David IN PERSON before even booking. If you're in the midst of planning a wedding, you know how beneficial it can be to have an in-person discussion with a vendor. David's choices are completely a la carte, and it was really nice to be able to pick and chose what we wanted & when. We decided to go with the 3 piece band during ceremony/cocktail hour + 11 piece band during reception + Frank Sinatra singer during dinner + a saxophonist to welcome our guests in the elevator with champagne. We got married at Bridgeport Art Center and worked with David & his team to make that elevator scene quite the WOW when you walked in. David made us feel very confident and secure throughout the entire process. He was constantly asking us for music suggestions, & even encouraged us to have the band learn new songs. Well, we certainly had them learn some new songs. Our wedding was anything but ordinary. We played a lot of Phish, & were nervous about the band mastering the sounds of our beloved band in just a few months. The band killed it. They took on every Phish song like it was nothing & made our wedding so, so special & memorable. Yes, David & his team are expensive, but they are worth it. My husband, Pat, and I got married a few weeks ago on November 5. It's hard to express adequately, but David Rothstein's band was absolutely phenomenal! Pat and I wanted to make sure that all of our guests had a blast at the reception and danced all night. David's band definitely helped us exceed our expectations. I'm not exaggerating when I say that there was not an inch of space on the dance floor the entire night! Even some our of guests who we would have expected to sit at their tables most of the night were dancing nonstop! All throughout the evening, SO many of our guests approached me and Pat to tell us that the band was the best they had ever heard at a wedding and that they were having so much fun. And, we have continued to receive those comments from our guests since the wedding. Our guests were not wrong - David's singers and musicians are outstanding! They can sing and play just about anything, and they sound awesome doing it! They were also very engaging with the crowd, which definitely kept everyone on the dance floor. Something else we decided to do last-minute was to hire the DJ David works with to play during the breaks the band took and to back up the band for some of the Top 40 songs they played. We could not have been happier that we made that decision! Even though the band took breaks, the DJ made sure not a single person left the dance floor and continued to have so much fun. We would highly recommend hiring the DJ! David and his band are top-notch professionals. Throughout the wedding planning process, David was always so easy and pleasant to work with. He responded so quickly to any email I sent him, answering any question I had. Not only is David a great MC, but he helps the events of the evening flow smoothly and in a timely fashion. He also coordinated with the other vendors we hired to make sure everyone was on the same page. Something else we really appreciated about David and his band was that they listened to what Pat and I wanted our night to be like. When he shared a song list with us, Pat and I divided it into songs would and would not want played. I've heard stories from other couples who have done this, and the band ignored their requests and played their own set list. David made sure our list was followed precisely, which made the night for us even that much better. He also worked with us to help surprise my parents by having them dance to the first dance song from their wedding 44 years ago (my husband and I got married at the same venue as my parents). David also got a present for me and Pat that all of our guests signed, which is such a nice memento to have. Something else we loved was that David took pictures and videos of the venue and dance floor throughout the night, which he then very graciously shared with us. Although we hired a photographer and videographer, David captured a lot of the night from after those vendors were done for the evening. As the bride and groom, you tend to miss a lot of what happens at your own wedding, so we absolutely love that we have David's footage to see how much fun everyone were having! I could keep going on, but overall, David Rothstein Music is by far the best band out there! He is worth every single penny. If you hire him, you are guaranteed to have a wedding that your guests will talk about long after it's over! I truly believe our guests when they say ours was one of the best weddings they had ever been to, and I know that is very largely due to David and his band. We had many special requests for the band- including learning our favorite blue grass song for our ceremony, bringing in extra band members to play particular string instruments, accommodating a wild HOUR LONG HORA with an extra Hebrew singer, among other things! We were very particular about the songs on our "do not play list" and the band listened! Having a live band and fun atmosphere at our wedding was a top priority for us and we could not have been happier with David Rothstein Music!! We liked David from the moment we met him and bonded over our love for the Cubs. At our wedding, the band gifted us a framed photo of the marquee at Wrigley on Opening Day 2014 (the day we met!) for our guests to sign. So thoughtful! We used DRM for our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. We had a vision for our ceremony and wanted more modern music (Bon Iver, Beck, Adele). They accommodated this with ease and gave honest feedback on what would work and what wouldn't. It was perfect and absolutely what we envisioned -- thanks Alex!! For dinner/reception our emcee (Brian) was great! He accommodated last minute changes with introductions and got the guests excited. The band even worked with my MOHs to incorporate music into their speech, which was a total surprise and absolutely hilarious. The reception was a blast!! The dance floor was PACKED the entire time, which is exactly what we wanted. We asked guests to add a song request on their RSVP card and the band gave special shout outs to certain guests before playing- such a sweet touch! They also accommodated our "must play" song list between the band and DJ sets. We have received countless compliments about DRM from our guests and it was by far the BEST decision we made for our wedding. What a wedding we had! If we could do it over and over again we would and every time we would definitely have David Rothstein Music run the party! You want to give your business to someone who is conscientious and altruistic and David is just that guy! He brings 100% and more to the table going out of his way to make sure that everyone at the event is having a wonderful time. When all of the kids started to peter out on the dance floor because their feet were hurting, David saved the day by running out and buying socks for all of them! Not only that, he provided awesome light-up hats and sunglasses for them giving them added incentive to keep dancing! Everyone had a blast dancing right up to the very end of the night! To top it off, David took our donated flowers to a local nursing home the next morning to "spread the love"! We felt so great about that! My husband and I got married in September at the Intercontinental Hotel and The David Rothstein Band played at our cocktail hour and reception. My dad and I researched other bands, and THIS WAS THE BAND TO HAVE. We are still hearing from all the guests at our wedding that they had never seen so many people at a wedding on the dance floor, and we have this band to thank. David kept everything in order, and on time. He added many special touches that kept my husband and our guest surprised all night. The interaction between the band, David and every guest there was incredible. Even my 86 year old grandmother was dancing the night away. This band is worth every penny, and we have them to thank for an incredible reception. Pete and I got married back in June and almost seven months later people are still talking about how absolutely amazing the band was! We met David by chance when we moved into the same condo building and grew to learn about David Rothstein Music over playdates with our dogs. A short while after we met David and Goldie, Pete and I got engaged and knew just who to call. There was no doubt in our minds that we would book David Rothstein Music. Hearing about all of the talented musicians in the band and seeing videos of the energetic events that had been previously played were value enough, but as an added bonus we got to work with our friend, David. David is not only a friendly and caring individual to know on a personal level but he is a great person to know professionally as well. He was extremely helpful when it came to planning out the day and even had suggestions for how to keep the event moving smoothly. He met with us on a number of occasions to discuss details and was very accommodating when we made a special request to have the band collaborate with our Greek DJ. When our wedding day finally arrived, David Rothstein Music was the one vendor I knew I could count on to make everything go as planned. During the cocktail hour, we had the jazz trio play for our guests which was absolutely amazing! During the reception we had the 10 piece band play and, as David promised, the dance floor was jam packed all night. Generations young and old were having a fabulous time and dancing up a storm. The band does an excellent job of knowing the perfect songs to play to keep the energy alive in the room. My fiance and I have attended several weddings this year, but one wedding truly stands out. Our friends who hired this band threw the most memorable event BY FAR. Three months later, we still refer to that night as the best wedding we have ever attended. As soon as we entered the reception area, the band set the tone for the evening. The dance floor was packed after the salad course! There was a fabulous variety of music, and the energy remained upbeat the entire evening. All the guests literally shouted, "ONE MORE SONG. ONE MORE SONG," at the end of the evening. The next morning we relived the whole event! I am hoping to hire the band for my own wedding! David is incredibly genuine...not the cheesy wedding band leader you may picture. My fiance and I met with him last night and he really made us feel at ease. Best Band Ever! The David Rothstein Orchestra is amazing. My husband was hesitant about hiring a band initially, but after said it was one of the best decisions we made. David was really great about working with us throughout the whole wedding planning process. We had a few family traditions and special favors we wanted included in the night and he was really accomodating to our requests. He also made really good suggestions about how to keep the energy going during the night. And the night of our wedding was just great. The band is great - they sound great, are fun, have a ton of energy and get everyone excited to be out dancing. So many people came up to us after and told us how great the band was. There is also another thing that stands out about working with David. He really cares about what he does and you having a good time & it shows. He knew we liked to cook and had all our guests sign this huge bowl for cooking. We had such a great time at our wedding and so glad David Rothstein Orchestra played. read more

My husband and I both agreed that music was going to be a top priority at our wedding. Hiring David Rothstein Music was honestly one of the best decisions we made! I do not even know where to begin with all of my accolades. From the moment our ceremony started to the end of our party, the music was the best many of our guests had ever heard. We received many compliments throughout the night and are still being asked by friends and family about David and his band. David and his band brought such a positive energy to our wedding and our guests were literally dancing all night. We met with David on several occasions prior to the wedding and everything we discussed was incorporated into our wedding and went flawlessly. We had a non traditional schedule during our evening in terms of dinner courses, blessings and celebrating a friends birthday and David worked with us to make it all happen just how we wanted it. David also helped to "save" us a few times when our day of planner dropped the ball. All of our song requests were fantastic, including some difficult numbers that the band learned just for us. The horn section was amazing and Steve G's voice did not disappoint. Alex Koffman worked with us for our ceremony music and he did a phenomenal job. I would definitely recommend David Rothstein Music for your wedding or for any celebration! Though they are pricier than most, you will not regret your decision. They really do deliver!
