While the steak we purchased was excellent, we would have purchased more but they had cleared the cases 30 minutes early. The new owner(?) needs to take a lesson in customer service to put it kindly. Overdue review. Called many places for a whole pig last year as it was my first time doing it and was referred to David's meat market. From the time I called till I picked up the pig the service was beyond my expectations. They helped me with choosing the right weight, had the pig butterflied and even kept it in their cooler for an extra day until I could go pick it up. When I picked it up they even gave me some of their shop made apple sausages for free to try which came out great. Just ordered my 2nd pig for Christmas this year and was treated with the same level of service. Best butcher shop hands down! Lived in Garland 20 years ago and discovered this authentic butcher shop. Visited again this week and Grandson is now running the shop. But as his Grandfather did, the Meat is still really of a quality step above any grocery store. As an example every steak or cut is hand wrapped in Saran Wrap in the meatcase which keeps it fresh and protected. Also grab a bottle or two of Dave's traditional spice for grilling those streaks as well as pork and chicken. read more

Something is extremely wrong with this place. I was there on a Saturday at 3:00pm and the place was completely empty..... (First Red Flag). I walked in and no employees could be found anywhere..... (Second Red flag). All of their steaks were wrapped in plastic wrap which seemed very odd to me..... (Third Red Flag). I've never seen a butcher shop do that to their steaks. Their hamburger meat looked like it had been sitting in their display case for days. Kind of gray looking and it smelled really funky when I got it home..... (Fourth Red Flag). I purchased two basic looking Choice Ribeye steaks and three pounds of 80/20 hamburger meat for $103.00 dollars!!!!! ((((((( ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME ))))))) Where do they get off charging these outrageous prices? I could have gotten two cooked ribeye steak dinners at Saltgrass Steakhouse with two salads, two fully dressed baked potatoes, two orders of steamed vegetables, unlimited freshly made iced tea, unlimited fresh bread, two pieces of New York cheese cake and unlimited coffee for what I paid at this place. Have been going here since I moved to area in 1992. Beef & pork are always superior. Great selection of homemade sausages. Rib roast and crown roast of pork for holidays are great. I also love that they trim and wrap as you request on certain cuts. All their beef is corn fed Iowa beef - to me it tastes much better than grass fed beef. Fantastic little meat market! My dad was a butcher for a period of time and I learned about meat from him, and usually frequent grocery stores that will cut my meat personally for me to my specifications. However, when I want to splurge on REALLY GOOD QUALITY MEAT, I look for a meat market. I stopped by when I decided to forego the backed up traffic on 75 and skip up Jupiter to East Plano instead. Since it was just after Christmas, they still had their way cute windows painted in a Winter Wonderland scene. I was giggling at the sign on the door advising people to "Take their Deer to the Rear". I was greeted by a friendly guy who turned out to be Devon, the owner's grandson, and we commenced a discussion about their meat on offer. I was in the mood for ribeyes, having eaten an inordinate amount of ham over the Christmas holiday and the meat here did NOT disappoint! I got two prime ribeyes, and picked up some smoked sausage and Mexican chorizo as well to try. The ribeyes were over an inch thick and melt in your mouth tender, with just the right amount of fat on them. Since our broiler isn't working that well, I pan fried them to a medium rare goodness in a bit of butter and seasonings. OMG goodness! The smoked sausage, which we had last night, was very flavorful and preferred over the kielbasa that you can get in the normal grocecry store. The Mexican chorizo was the biggest surprise. Other than going to a Mexican market nearby (which I have done), I haven't found a good chorizo for a long while. The ones in the Mexican markets are good, but still lacking flavor at times. David's was not only surprisingly good, but very meaty and lacking filler. Yay! I hate it when cereal is added to it. But the most surprising quality about it was the taste. I tasted heat and flavor for once and an excellent combination of spices, and it was very lean too! Will be going back to sample a bit more of their meats and sausages I think. Also going to check into whether they make South African boerwors or Portugese linguica - I happen to have the recipes for these and maybe they'll make some up. :-) read more

This is an old fashioned Butcher Shop. You will not find friendlier or more professional help. Huge assortment of meats. Select, choice and prime beef. You may think the prices are high but not for the quality of beef that you get. I've been shopping here about a year and had only one tough steak. When I told them about it, they gave me a free one. Whether it's bacon, sausage or steaks, you will not be disappointed. You should also try their spices. My favorite is "Good Shit". It's perfect for anything you cook. They told me to come in early in the fall and pre-order a dry-aged one this year. WOW. I served a full 12-pounder (7-bone) dry-aged prime rib for a table of ten friends and family at our house. It was beyond delicious -- ALL rave reviews, like three folks saying "the best darn prime rib I've EVER had" (and they probably had over 100 years of eating prime-rib between them!) So yes, go here! My parents used to own Egg Roll Cafe next door to David's Meat Market. I remember the owner was so kind to us. It was small things like we would always buy a $1 worth of bacon but he would always give us more than $1 worth. Such small acts of kindness meant to world to our family that was struggling to build roots here in the U.S. So happy to hear that grandson took over the market and it stayed in the family! Meat is decent. I would look for prime steaks but often times they'd tell me their supply truck hadn't gotten there and would give me choice steaks. Most of the butchers are pretty nice but there's one guy that's absolutely rude and seems to be no help when you call. I used to love this place because of the service and cuts. I've gone various times here and each time the service has been inconsistent. I officially have moved on to a better butcher shop with more variety, better prices, and most importantly... great customer service every time I go. Sorry guys it's a 1 star from me now.. read more

Vegetarian here! But YES! David has my heart. It's not a secret. My husband knows; he doesn't mind. It's not often that I bring home big round, fat, juicy cuts, but when I do, it's from David's. Despite the fact I have no idea what David's meat taste like, the gentlemen behind the counter are always patient with my innocent questions and help me make a husband endearing selection. Their sausages and ground chuck really delight on a week night, but for a special occasion their beef tenderloins really make a statement. My first time going there and couldn't be happier! First, when I called to ask if they had franks for hot dogs, the gentleman who took my call was *perfect*!! He said "Yes, ma'am and we have the best franks made right here", showing me he was really proud of it. Score!!! Nothing makes me more willing to go to a business than a proud employee/owner! The store is super clean, super organized. Really impressed by that. I bought my franks (delicious, by the way! Smoky flavored, awesome) and then I asked the guy if they had beef for carpaccio (rare to find in States). He said yes and cut PERFECT thin slices for me, put in a perfect package. Score Score Score!!! And on top of that, suggested me a great place to buy buns for my hotdog (I needed very big buns). They are so super nice, excellent customer service! David gets outstanding meat and he butchers it well. There is the requisite smoked meats and sausages and David is always willing to advise on how a given cut will cook best, based on what he started with. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because I sometimes wish David had a wider selection. Still, by and large, this is one of the Dallas sides' better meat markets. read more

Have you ever watched some of the more stuffy shows on the Food Network (no, I'm not hatin') and hear them direct you to your local butcher for a specific cut or trim? For some reason, I don't associate that type of service at the big chain grocery stores and although Central Market is great and has a huge display case, you KNOW you're gonna pay out the ass for it! Then there's David's - a terrific little find on the very edges of Garland/Richardson. I asked if I could have a sirloin tip roast thinly sliced for Philly steaks and Devon started hand slicing that beautiful hunk of meat as thinly as possible - yes, by hand. Told me to call ahead next time so I wouldn't have to wait the whole 3 or 4 minutes that it took him to do it. Lots of different types of sausages, ready-made meats, etc. Definitely worth the trip, and can you guess where I head to after I leave here??? Yep - GRIFF'S - a few blocks down the road!!!
