As residents of Port Dover, we have been to David's several times over past years. We have, however, been hearing that the food and service have deteriorated over the past couple of years. We decided to go in spite of the negative reviews we had been hearing. I can sum up our experience in four words: Not worth the money My beef tenderloin, though cooked to my liking, was gristly, not something I would expect at $72. However, what irked us most is the petty nickeling and dimeing. You have to pay for bread ($19). In most upscale restaurants like the Olde Schoolhouse in Brantford, bread is complimentary. Secondly, main courses come with only ONE side. if you want potato AND a vegetable you pay an extra $5. For me, the final straw came when I was asked if I wanted mushrooms with my beef. There was no mention by the waitperson of an extra cost. I assumed mushrooms came as an option on the plate, like gravy. No, an additional $12 was added to the bill. We have learned our lesson. The prices at David's are frankly extortionist which the beautiful views of the lake do not ameliorate. In future, if we want an upscale dining experience, we are going to the Olde Schoolhouse in Brantford which provides much better value for money. read more

my wife and I went for her birthday we ordered the house special that evening . my steak was done perfect my wife's steak was burnt and slathered in gravy to us looked like a complete cover up When we complained and sent it back the chef was not having it At the end of the night he ended up sending us home with a newly prepaid steak after we finished our diner dinner. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! Nooni's is the outside extension of David's restaurant in Port Dover. We went with friends for their birthday. My wife and I both ordered Meatballs for $16, told we would get 3 meatballs but only 2 came with a little marinara sauce. I asked if I could have a little paste with mine she said, "sure no problem". I got 2 meatballs and about 8 pieces of small noodles. The bill came, $18 each for the meatballs and $22 for the 8 pieces of noodles. OUTRAGIOUS!!! was my immediate reaction. I questioned the $22 for a few pieces of noodles and she said that was half order of rigatoni which is $36. UNBELIVEABLE!!!. 2 small lunches, one beer and one 6oz wine $92. Came on a Sunday around 12 noon for there all day brunch and was pleasantly surprised with it not being crowded. My wife had the seafood linguini which she enjoyed. I had the perch and fries. We started with Caesar salads and finished with espresso and chocolate cake! It was all delicious! It was a great impromptu romantic lunch! Highly recommended! read more

My husband and I were fortunate enough to once again enjoy our Anniversary dinner at David's last night. We were doubly fortunate as oysters were on the menu!! The oysters Rockefeller were the best I have ever tasted, anywhere and we've eaten oysters in many places. I had the 1/2 rack of lamb and my husband, Jack had the pickerel and trout. Exceptional meals from start to the finish. They were excellent and the entire experience was made even better by enjoying the company of our server, Rebecca. She is professional and utterly charming and made our night. Topped off by a stunning sunset, our 55th Anniversary dinner could not have been better! My husband and I took a motorcycle ride and wanted to have a fancy brunch. He took me to David's. We came around 12:30 and they were empty. We had a seat by the window and the view was spectacular! You cannot beat this view! We started with Caesar's and they were delicious! My husband opted for the pre fix-perch and Caesar salad and I ordered seafood linguini and a Caesar salad. The Caesar salads were fresh and not over dressed. The sprinkling of bacon was perfect and the croutons were seasoned well. My linguini was great. I would have liked some herbs in it to give it color. It was nice that the seafood was out of the shell. The seafood was cooked perfectly and the white wine butter sauce was seasoned well and a perfect balance. My husband's perch was expertly fried and the batter had dill in it. The Tatar sauce was homemade and the veggies roasted perfectly. We ended the meal with his dessert-the chocolate cake and espresso. It was rich and almost had a fudge consistency. The service was phenomenal. She was very attentive and we didn't have to wait for anything. We will definitely be back on another night to enjoy the delicious food and amazing service! read more

This was our first time at David's and we were looking forward to a pleasant date night. The food was decent, the server was accommodating but the atmosphere was less than desirable. The level of noise made us feel like we were in a cheap bar. We couldn't hear the music or ourselves speak. So disappointing. We won't likely return. read more

Our favourite eatery in the area. Contrary to some other posts I find the service more than adequate. The food is always as good as or better than any other upper end restaurants I've visited in the area. The prices are also comparable. The lakeside location, excellent food, good prices and special nights with entertainment upstairs make this a great choice for night or afternoon out. read more

Food: The food was hit-or-miss. I started with a mixed greens salad with goat cheese, poached pears, prosciutto, and sprouts - and I loved it. The flavours were predictable, but it was well executed. I was less impressed with my main, which was chicken supreme with smoked sun dried tomato stuffing, braised white beans and lentils, and crispy celeriac. The chicken was slightly dry, and the flavour of the dish was very monotone. I wish I'd ordered the beef tenderloin, because my dad and grandpa really enjoyed it. For dessert I had rhubarb crumble with vanilla ice cream. Or should I say vanilla cream soup? It came out almost completely melted! It would have been fantastic otherwise. Atmosphere: The look was very clean and modern, with beige walls, black accents, and white table settings. It also has big windows with great views of Lake Erie! Service: I'm wondering whether David's has ever held a meal with set seating times before, because they seem rather unprepared. There were really large wait times in between our courses - we didn't get our mains until after our neighbouring table (who arrived after us) got their dessert! I was also less than impressed with how they handled my allergies. It seemed as if they didn't really communicate between the kitchen and waitstaff very well. I'm glad I noticed the walnuts in my salad before I took a bite! Overall: Hit-or-miss food. Nice atmosphere. Sub par service. Positives: the view of the lake is beautiful and the food is pretty good. Negatives: we made a reservation for lunch at 12:30, which is the time that we arrived and sat down. We received our food at 1:30. Waiting that long for food is unacceptable and there was no apology or even acknowledgement that it was taking a long time, it just always takes that long to get food. We had multiple people at the table order fish and chips and one person's portion was half the size of everyone else's and was very greasy and oily. Overall, the food is decent but definitely not worth the hour wait. read more

I've been to David's a few times, and each time it's excellent. The service is a bit slow, but the wait staff are all friendly and make sure your bread and drinks are refilled while you wait. Their steak is easily the best in Dover, and the grilled calamari is incredible. I thought the desserts were nothing special, which seems to be a common theme in higher end restaurants, and was very disappointing. They really need to work on the communication and ambiance. The place seems stuffy, the tag lines are cheesy, the website is a dinosaur and filled with spelling mistakes, and the decor is outdated. It seems like fine dining from the early 90s, but the food is modern, so it doesn't make sense. Would be much more welcoming if they made some updates; if I hadn't heard through word of mouth about this place, I wouldn't feel very welcome as a young professional. read more

Every time we got to this place food is ok but the service is the worst in the industry. Went here last night with my wife for my birthday to the Double Olive. Sat down and was greeted by the waitress/bar tender. She took our drink orders and an appetizer order. We were the only customers in the place. The drinks came and we enjoyed them. I had to get up and go to the bar and interrupt the 2 girls talking behind the bar to get another drink. These girls need some training!!! I carried my drink back to mu table. 45 minutes, yes 45 minutes went by and finally our appetizers came, luke warm. We finished them and waited and waited for the server to come but nope too busy chatting with the co-worker behind the bar. I approached the bar asked for our bill , paid and left to have supper somewhere else. Atmosphere is good, they need to pay attention to service!!
