We moved into a house in the art museum area of Philadelphia 3 years ago. Our house is about 100…read moreyears old and needed a lot of work. We hired Betancourt Painting and Home Design to overhaul the main room on our first floor that includes both our dining room and living room. The quality of our work and level of details and care that they took for every aspect of our project was fantastic and we continued to hire them from then on out for every other project. In our old house, there is not a straight wall, door frame, or hardwood floorboard anywhere. Despite the continued and unexpected challenges, they paid attention to every last detail and did completed each task masterfully. I notice the quality of their work frequently. For example, when I walk around the house and notice an odd ceiling corner, and notice the extra steps they took to make sure that molding was cut to match. I also appreciate the extra steps to make a space more enjoyable. For example, when they re-did our main bathroom, Tico noticed that if someone were taking a bath, they would be able to see underneath of the sink/cabinet that we had purchased. And because of the design of the cabinet, you would be able to see exposed pipes and wall underneath and behind the cabinet. Tico cut and installed a piece of wood that would look much nicer and fix the design flaw. While he definitely did not have to do this, and we would never have looked at it and wondered why he hadn't done something about it, Tico went out of his way to make sure the space reached its full potential. Lastly, and most importantly, my wife and I trust Tico. We had complete confidence that they were working hard for us when we weren't home. While they were very good about reaching out to us during the day if any unexpected decisions arose, you can't plan for every aspect to a job and I was always happy with the decisions that were made. They also completely customized each room. Again, in an old house, there are a lot of odd angles and details that you don't find in new construction. We didn't want to lose this unique aspect to the house, and they customized their work to keep it. I'm not sure a big construction company would take the time to do this, nor have the ability and craftsmanship to do so.
And it isn't just us that liked their work. We are moving this summer and just sold our house. We put it up on the market on a Saturday and had an offer on Monday morning. And we sold the house for more than we were initially expecting. And judging from the feedback that we got from people viewing our house, everyone commented on the unique and beautiful work that was done in re-finishing the house. Multiple people commented that we must have really loved and taken care of the house after walking through. Even the home inspector said that he has been in a lot of homes in the area and he was impressed with the quality of work that was done.
More Details of their work:
First floor - Built custom built in book shelves. Removed the stucco (and about 100 years of old wallpaper, mud, etc underneath) and made a smooth plaster finish on each wall. Put in new crown molding around the ceiling, floor, and doors. My wife and I had exposed brick on one wall and they finished the job by framing it appropriately with molding. Also replaced the old knob and tube electrical wiring with new wiring.
Main bathroom - Removed everything down to the studs. Put in new tub, toilet, sink. New walls, new electrical work, new plumbing to the shower. Tiled the shower and sink backsplash in a way that we had designed. Installed a fan and heater in the ceiling. Reframed and installed a new window.
Basement - was completely unfinished when we bought the house. Installed new walls, closets, storage space, and electrical work. Installed a new half bathroom.
I have recommended Betancourt Painting and Home Design to multiple friends, and several people have hired them and been very happy with their work. I highly recommend them for anyone doing any work in their house.
