I originally hired John to DJ my wedding for May 2014. Three days prior to the event, I received a voice mail from him, stating that he would not be my DJ because he had to have emergency surgery. I understand that things happen, but we hired John because we were most confident with him, as the owner, doing the job. He tried to replace himself with someone he admitted was not his second choice, but someone that would do a good job. That put us even less at ease, but we decided to attempt to meet with this other person in the midst of the busy wedding week. That replacement person was impossible to reach, and after a whole day of attempts, we decided to ask John about a refund. After an entire day of unanswered phone calls, John finally answered in the early evening and told us that actually he COULD DJ the wedding because as it turned out, nothing was wrong. I expressed great worry, due to him thinking he was so sick earlier that day that he needed surgery. Before I even had the chance to ask for a refund, John VOLUNTEERED the refund and stated that he'd "cut a check" as soon as he got home. This put my mind at ease, at least for the time being, and we both agreed that was probably best for him and myself. So I went on to frantically book someone from a different company, assuming that I would get my money back.
Fast forward to a couple days after the wedding. I'm on my honeymoon, and through a phone call with my mom, I learned that we had yet to receive anything from John. So I called him. He said he'd already sent it. Fast forward a couple more days. No refund, no answers to our calls. More days pass, no answers to phone calls. A couple weeks after the wedding, I call from a friends phone, and I get a hold of John. He tells me he sent me a MONEY ORDER to my old address (that had already been corrected with him in a previous meeting, and we've even recieved mail from him at our new address!) He says he'll watch for it to come back and he'll take care of it. If he is a reputable company, why would he send a money order? Well, because it can't be traced, that's why.
More days pass with phone calls that he doesn't answer. About a month or so after the wedding, my husband calls John on his way home from work. Shockingly, he answers. Husband asks about the refund, and John says he's going to send it to my parents address! Husband asks if he can just come to pick it up instead, and John agrees, but says he's out of town until two days later. So of course, many more phone calls go unanswered and we are still here without a refund. Lies, lies, lies. We are now contemplating legal action. read more
