It feels like you have to know someone to be allowed to stay here. The staff was incredibly rude. I asked about staying for a month with my 30-amp RV, and the woman I spoke to immediately said it wasn't an option. She told me that if I did stay, it would cost $800 a month plus electricity--yet both the brochure and the website clearly state $700 a month, with electricity and sewage included. She also claimed there were no available spots, but I saw at least 7 or 8 empty sites as I was leaving. My father-in-law had a similar experience when he tried to stay for two weeks. They gave him the same runaround and said no one is allowed to stay for a full month--but I personally know two people who live there year-round and don't work for the park. read more

Our cousin brought us up here to see her RV site and stationary camper. The grounds are wooded and lovely. There are five lakes, three of which have RV sites around them. Two of these are fishing-only (Catfish Lake and Lake Neal), and the third (Lake Helen) is a swimming lake with a sandy beach. Our cousin's RV site is on Lake Neal. Not good at all. Check out is to be at 11 they were knocking on my door at 10:30 to see when I was leaving to make sure that I knew I was supposed to be checking out today. Not happy with the service at all, the sewage was blocked and I asked for them to come fix it and they forgot so I called again and they said they send someone out next morning, they did send someone out that night because I was going to fix it myself and they didn't want me touching it. People don't clean up after their pets. had to clean up 3 piles behind my camper. the water park was closed all week! Not worth the money! read more

This is our go to campground in the Hampton Roads area, when they have vacancies. This family who own and run this campground is professional, friendly, and very helpful. Peaceful location just minutes away from downtown Suffolk, and right off the highway to the rest of Virginia's Hampton Roads, they offer some great amenities. 50 & 30 amp campsites, pull through and back in, storage facilities, cabins, a swim area, and few other things. I didn't know this place existed!! Barely 30 minutes from my place in Olde Towne to a beautiful lake that has a naturally occurring ground water supply/spring! I stayed with some friends that have an RV & it was a great weekend to be there. They did a potluck style Thanksgiving feast & the food was delicious. I wish I had known that was happening so I didn't show up empty handed, but I left with a belly full! Everyone was so friendly & it is a pretty inexpensive place to spend your weekend. It's definitely better than bar hopping, but if you want to do that it's a short Lyft or Uber to Baron's Pub in Suffolk! We went thru tons of fire wood & I think I just washed the smell of smoke off of me! My excessive use of exclamation points annoys me, too ;) I would love to stay here in warmer weather to really get to enjoy the lakes, the fact that they rent out cabins makes me want to visit again sooner than later! My new favorite Hampton Roads campground! We like to leave Virginia Beach to get away from the congestion. Davis Lakes was a perfect place to relax without having to drive too far. Within 45 minutes, we had arrived and checked in. The campsites are great with a nice sized deck with a picnic tale right next to your camper. This is a great feature because it limits the dirt and sand tracked into the camper, you don't have to use a large outdoor rug, and mud wouldn't be a big problem if it rains. Loved: -decks next to campers -mature shade trees - friendly employees -event activities (Easter egg coloring, egg hunt for kids during the day, and then one for the adults at night.. too fun) -well-kept grounds -nice beach area on the swimming lake -cable tv for rest time -Walmart and drug stores within 10 minutes Could improve: -giant wood bees swarming every wooden building. We have a kiddo with severe allergies, so epipen use and ER visit would have been a major bummer. -wish you could book a campsite on the lake with private deck.. but these are only for long-term/residents. -wifi was unpredictable read more

Having never visited a campground in my adult life, I can't say that I expected what we found here at Davis Lakes. It's situated right along a main highway, Not too far from downtown Suffolk. Sprawling grounds, several lakes, and many modern conveniences were included in our stay. We rented the Byrd Nest Cabin (an adage to the street that leads you to the grounds). The cabin was kitschy; the decor was made up of various pieces of bird art, with different hues of blue accenting the one room. In the cabin, we found a full size coffee pot, mini fridge/freezer, microwave, sink, dishes and utensils, a futon, space heater, full size bed, and flat screen TV mounted to the wall. The bathroom was small but clean, and although the grounds use well water it's better than having to go to the bath house. The mattress on the bed was lacking...I could flip it over with one hand. There was also a gas grill on the covered porch outside, along with a picnic table. The propane tank was full, the water ran hot easily, and there was a window heat and a/c unit that kept the space cozy. Most of the campers are long term, and have been on the grounds for a while. Everyone we met was very pleasant and liked staying here. We had the privilege of meeting a fixture of the campground, Ms. Alice. She's near 80 and has more spirit than most 20 year olds! Regal looking in her cheetah print cape (very stylish cold weather gear, I might add), she commands a crowd whilst holding her ever present cup of sunset blush. She fired off questions like rounds from a pistol, and kept the conversation rolling right along through each visit. She laughs at the jokes told, and adds her own commentary to make them even funnier. This woman needs a tiara and a lifetime supply of boxed wine; she reigns supreme. If you happen to meet her, ask her about her encounter with a bear on the way to the moose lodge. She's a delight, and part of her charm is her extensive vocabulary. But I digress. Each campsite situated around the lake(s) typically have an outdoor room with a dock below. You can fish bass and brim and catfish, but make sure to stick to your own lake. The locals frown upon migratory fishermen. The front desk staff is helpful and friendly, and there's an event list for the pavillion available to guests upon check in. The cabins are fairly priced and quiet. I think we would stay again, but probably summertime so there would be more to do. read more

My family and I had a great 2 day stay at Davis Lakes Campground. We are a family of 4 (5 including our dog who also tagged along) and stayed in the beachside cottage. The cottage was beautiful, well kept, and seemed to be brand new. We were able to fish right off our deck as well as swim. We rented a golf cart and we're able to fish in different lakes. The entire campground is well kept and everyone was very friendly. Given the COVID situation, we had a great stay. It was the perfect quiet, relaxing stay my family needed. My Family, and I visited here July 2017. We stayed in our camper, but they do have cabins too. They have a great little beach area with lounge chairs. The lake was super fun! They had floating obstacles that you climb, definitely bring your endurance with you! You are required to wear a life vest they give you upon arrival. You can also kayak, and paddleboard around the lake. I definitely recommend this place! read more

Super disapointed with Amy from Davis Lakes. Yesterday my son had a fever and today his Dr said he has covid so we have to stay home and can not camp tomorrow. I have a Dr note stating this exact info plus a text from the health department. They will not help us at all with $94 deposit because they are a small business. What about a small family, our money is important to us too. They don't care and won't even let us reschedule instead. I can't leave my child home, what am I supposed to do? My husband stayed at Davis Lakes for five months for work and the owners were very accommodating; they made his stay the best it could be. Affordable pricing, clean bathrooms. I had to use the bathrooms, including the showers, a few times when I visited and everything was in great working order. They also have a beautiful pond to swim in with inflatables my kids enjoyed, during the summer for an extra cost. I had written my review prior to having some complications and ending up stuck at the campground for a few more days than originally planned. The environment is nice, however, the employees are not. There were plenty of open spaces yet they were angry and had a poor attitude regarding our situation instead of attempting to understand the situation. We paid for each day but they still had a poor attitude, you would have thought they would be happy to fill their vacancies. Nice, quiet campground! Very spacious, with multiple lakes for fishing and a small beach for swimming. Canoes, paddle boats and boards are available for rent, as well as an aqua-glide play set. The man-made lake was nice, but could use more filtration, as it was filled with algae/ mold. (another was stagnant). read more

We stay at Davis Lakes because it is close to our grandchildren with convenient shopping. We have been staying here occasionally since tent camping many, MANY years ago! The owners and family have always been kind to us and since our kids live in Suffolk and visit frequently when we are here, it's like we never left! Over the years, the upgrades have been extensive - now with cable and internet. Sites are level with nice space between; some with shade trees. Clean park, clean restrooms, clean beach! Now, with the snack-shack and Aquaglide water obstacles, it's even more fun and convenient! Every time we come back, there seems to be something new! Pricy? NOT KID FRIENDLY IF YOU HAVE BOYS!! Our boys have been harrassed for playing since we got here and stalked. The male worker here sat in his golf cart and watched them just waiting for them to do something wrong. They claimed it was for the safety of boys. Yet, a group of young girls, have been riding around on scooters and bikes wrecklessly while adults drive around with open containers on golf carts. And they did not say one word to them. This is been the most uncomfortable camping experience ever. Not to mention when we first arrived the two older ladies in the front office were so rude. Recently stayed at Davis Lakes for 10 days while visiting friends in the area. We were definitely there off season as it is late fall. Campground seems to be very well kept and my husband had no complaints about the bath house. The only complaint we DID have is that when we checked in they told us they were having some problems with the WiFi but were working on getting it fixed. Ok we thought, we've been on the road for a while and spotty WiFi service has become the norm. Well we try to connect "wrong password" tried every way we could think of to get connected and kept getting the same message. Call the office they tell us the password is correct but for some reason it won't work and they are waiting for someone from support to contact them. So after a few days of getting one excuse after another we realized that WiFi connections were just not gonna happen. So for our full 10 day stay no WiFi. This has to be either the worst WiFi provider on the planet who cannot troubleshoot a problem or management telling us a story. I'm pretty sure it's was the latter. read more

Raw sewage coming up from the ground around a septic tank... Reported at least 7 times over a 2 week period, each time getting a different excuse. Finally asked for another lot. Owner was extremely rude, and sent her drunk son with another person over to "see what MY problem was".!!???.. MY problem?? I have raw sewage on my lot that Im paying over $400 for a month for (I was there for my job). So, really the problem isn't mine, its yours and after talking to numerous other Long timers, this is a problem that's gone unfixed for years!!! . bottom line, give them money and don't complain, you'll be fine. Denise and Bridgett are rude and will lie to your face. Denise's son who also works there, is very much an alcoholic ( everyone I met agreed) 2 of the Lakes are down right nasty. Swimmers lake is full of goose feces. I personally witnessed underaged drinking during a campground event, in which the owner was aware of! The washing machines in the laundry mat are filthy, take something to clean the machines with before using! Witnessed a screaming match full of vulgarity and cursing between the owners son and apparent girlfriend/wife shortly after the event with the drunk teens. Nothing any parent would appreciate had children been close by. I stayed 3 months only because I couldn't find another place to take the camper ...I WAS in Va from Alabama for an 11 month job... 3 of the 11 spent at Davis Lakes, ..moved first chance I got. Never again will I go there. I met some wonderful people there who had been there for years, retirement brought them there before Denise became manager.... It's a shame, the old timers stories sound like it used to be a great place. read more
