Enjoyed our stay here for work - one of the only campgrounds in the Cheasapeake area. Hard to get a spot 50 amp FHU (they go fast). Much easier odds 30 amp FHU. Several water and electric sites though. Old campground with rv storage in front. Horse farm and golfing on property. I think it was $3 to golf? They also had bikes & kayaks available for rent. Lots of long term tentants that live here and were grandfathered into staying or work on property. You can stay up to 3 months in a rv then 2 weeks off. Office men were nice, one was very blunt but we didn't mind. Sites are a little tight to get into due to the matured pines, roots are also growing up out of the cement which made it slightly more difficult for leveling, and wouldn't recommend slides on 30 amp FHU sites under the pines (unless you go look ahead). They do have a pump out service and dump station. Pool, laundry, and playground area. We enjoyed walking around with the dogs. You can tell some of the people here are low income and near homelessness. We met some people living in a tent during our time here just trying to make it. It's just the nature of the whole area. Wouldn't reccommend keeping expensive items outside unattended. Wouldn't recommend children unattended either. Laundry machines were outdated but working and did the job. They have bathrooms and bathhouses available as well. Everybody seems to mind their own business. Flooding was terrible here though when it rained. Parking was limited at sites. Cannot park on sides (has to fit in your site spot) or you have to park it in designated shared parking spots in the campground. Has a gate with code to get in, security on duty, and cameras that made the area feel safer. read more

This place is pretty cool for the non-camping person like myself. My family rented a small camper just for a weekend to try this place out. When you first drive in there are a bunch of horses on each side of the street, which was really cool. They're nice enough to walk up to the fence so you can pet them. As you drive further back you pass the lot where people pay to store all their campers, and past all of that are the spots for people who are there to camp. The campground itself has two pools, a workout space, pony rides, golf cart and bike rental, volleyball nets, small playgrounds, laundry facilities, bathrooms, a small chapel, and covered picnic areas with tables. As far as I could see each campsite had a small area designated for a camp fire, and there are outside grills spread throughout. All in all, it was a fun trip, but the grass around the playground in the back didn't get cut until the evening before we left, which was unfortunate because we had small children who wanted to play and the bugs were terrible. The price was decent to rent the space and the workers all seemed nice! read more

Absolutely disgusting, I rented a cabin here and first off, there was garbage in the cabin from the people who were there before me. That wasn't such a big deal, the mattress looked really rough so I bought a foam mattress cover but when I came back my food that was all packaged still was covered in ants. The people outside at tent sites were even complaining about how bad they were getting bit up by ants. I had to walk my food covered in ants all the way back to the front desk to throw it away because they only have one dumpster for the whole campsite. Oh let's not forget the spiderwebs covering every crevice in the room. read more

Upon check-in, the staff was most pleasant and gave us a good insight to the rules and regs of the campground. We drove to our assigned camp site and found that everything was not as "nice" as the Web Site depicts. We found that there was a lot of mud, and mulch derbies all over the site. Didn't pay much attention to it at the time, but every time we went into our camper, we dragged this mulch stuff in and it got all over our sheets. We had to constantly sweep out our camper. We were told that all we had to do to re-enter the park was to drive up to the gate, enter our code and drive in when the gate goes up. We left for a bit on Saturday the 28th. When we returned, there was a "gate guard" sitting in a golf cart at the gate. As we slowly drove by, she asked "Can I help you?". I replied "NO THANK YOU" and attempted to get up to the key code unit. She yelled at me to "GET BACK HERE". When I backed up to see what she wanted, she commenced to give me the "3rd Degree" about who we were, were we camping there, etc. She wasn't even nice about it. When I showed her our pass, she opened the gate - I DID NOT NEED HER HELP TO OPEN THE GATE!!! The Restrooms appeared to be neat and clean. However, in the men's side, of six (6) stalls, only two (2) had toilet paper and one of these unit was plugged up with a big nasty looking mess. Went to take a shower and found the privacy door kind of falling off the hinges, to which I had to lift it up to close it. The women's side didn't fare much better. The shower stalls do not have space to leave you dry clothes, or dress without getting wet. Kind of defeats the purpose of taking a shower and putting on dry clothes. Lastly, the rain came. Out site flooded to the point we had no other option but to pack up and leave. Both my wife and I were absolutely soaked by the time we got all our stuff in the camper, the camper connected to our vehicle, and on our way. Chesapeake Campground DOES NOT GIVE REFUNDS for leaving their establishment early. Needless to say, we will NOT be visiting Chesapeake Campground any time in the future. read more

When we arrived to this campground there was a line to the road so we parked in line and my boyfriend came to my vehicle to sit with my sleeping children while I went to check in. While in line to check in the owner of the campground came in and was really rude and had an all around nasty disposition and was fussing about where our camper was even though it was parked there because that was the only place to park it upon arrival. The employee running the counter then refused to check me in until we moved our camper. The rates online are advertised as $194 a week with taxes included in that price but they charged me $220.25, they don't have a real petting farm and the employee doesn't know why they still advertise as having one, when you drive into the back of the park there are a lot of old, poorly maintained trailers that I'm assuming the people live here long term, there's no WiFi in the park, and the park is poorly kept. I wish I would have toured the park before paying. There are a lot of run down, dirty campers. There is a gate with a gate code and they said they have security which is good and the girl at the counter ended up being really nice but the owner still was not. read more

Stayed here recently with my husband while we were visiting our son who is in the service. Yuck!! This place is disgusting!! Not impressed at all!! If we wouldn't have had to pay for all 3 nights up front I would have left! There are MANY full time residents in old run down trailers! The camp sites were filled with people's personal belongings and it looks horrible!! I won't be back, that's for sure!! They don't have dump sites at each site. I was told this on the phone while I was making reservations. However, I was told that someone came around to pick up. However, when my husband asked the man driving around he was told that he needed an appointment and they didn't pick up on weekends!! What?? That was never explained!! The storage facility in on property and you have to drive through it on the way to the campsites. It looks like a junk yard!! read more

So,I never really wanted to be at this campground in the first place..But my friend was staying there I went to the park and on the way out this security guard cut me off almost causing an accident..That wasn't it he claimed I was flying down the campground when I was doing the speed limit..and I was like whatever let me get out of here because these people are ridiculous..The security guard then decided to follow me 2 inches from my bumper claiming I sped.Whatever I left next day I came back and the security guard stopped me saying I have to turn around then go in and pay..so I went in to pay because I don't want my friend to walk the couple of miles it takes to get to the gate..I went in there because at this point I just said take my money they basically gave me the run around.They didn't care then I told them the person I know in there because what's the harm right?Well they decided to threaten to kick them out,And to ban me for literally nothing.(I can't say anything about their attractions) but their service is completely unacceptable.Trust the reviews! read more

Very nice RV Park. Brand new large ceramic tile restroom with ample showers, shade, great bike trail, horses, lots of recreation. Quiet. Not enough sewer hook ups, but have $6 honey wagon. Can only stay 2 weeks unless permanent spot is available. GPS has trouble finding this quiet country spot. read more

We stayed in cabin 1. We were hit by the smell of mildew when we walked into the cabin. There was dust everywhere. If you have allergies, bring medicine. I would have given it three stars if we did not need to scrub the grime off the vinyl covered mattresses and walls of the cabin. I recommend bringing bleach cleaner and two rolls of paper towels. The AC was older than my high school senior. At least she didn't have to listen to my snoring over the noise of the air conditioner. The only pluses were that it was very quiet at night and the bath house was relatively clean and modern. read more

This place was decent for the price two years ago. Since last year the price has jumped from around 500 to almost 800 for the "off season" to almost 900 "on season". Before that it was around 460 a month if I recall correctly. The "internet" isnt even connectable, and if you can your just maybe able to check your email..maybe (one of the reasons for the price jack). And also if you can't connect it's your problem, and are told to contact the internet provider. The latrines are shady and don't ever seen to be clean. Most of the time the grounds are kept mowed and relatively clean. The storage areas are not padded. Horses randomly get loose. The "mini golf" is no bigger than a 15x15 pad. Staff in the office seem to really want nothing to do with you. There is a gym, it has maybe 3 or 4 pieces of equipment. The pool is maintained in the summer time. No longer worth the money in my opinion. read more

My niece used to love going over to the campground to ride the horses every weekend. The instructors were very patient with her (she was 3-6 years old when she was interested in riding). She even had one horse that she claimed as her own. Campground could really use a facelift and a few gallons of fresh paint to spruce it up. read more

My wife and I checked in to just stay a couple of weeks while assisting our daughter who lives near by with the new arrival of our grand child. After being there we decided to check into staying foe the summer. The staff at the office assisted us to getting a long term site. We totally enjoyed our stay over the last 5 months. The newly remodeled shower houses and laundry is very nice. the other residences were very friendly, security is almost not needed as everyone watches out for each other in the park. A very safe place for children to swim, ride bikes and play in the park. Looking forward to stay next summer. On a note the park a year ago was looking run down but it sure has been cleaned up and well improved appearance. Good job staff and Mis Lee. read more

My husband and I stayed here for two weeks. It's a nice campground and lots of shady sites for your camper if you have 30 amp elec. if you have 50 amp you are in full sun all day. 2 nice pools also. Our problem was we started our stay mid May and were told the pools would open Memorial Day. If we had guests after that there would be a $5 charge for each one because of pool use even if they did not use the pool. We made arrangements with our guests to come before that to avoid the extra expense. We called the office to let them know we would have guests coming and they told us there would be the $5 fee. They said the pool opened a week early and we would have to pay the fee. They never notified us the pool was opened early so that was a big surprise. We asked for an exemption but they said the owner was firm on any guests after the pool was open the guest had to pay. Be warned no mercy at this camp. read more

It's called a campground but in reality it's a fancy trailer park. Pros: It offers great prices and good location for a quick little night or two getaway where it is very quite. The bathrooms are very nice. The prices for the store and rentals are very affordable. Pool area is decent. Cons: They charge extra for 3 or more people. Most families have more than 2 people. The young lady that works in the store (I think her name is Misty) she was very rude, unfriendly and seems as if she hates her job. There was only a couple staff members that were actually friendly and worth talking to. The rest were very rude and unfriendly. The wouldn't even say hello, wave or even smile when waved to or said hello to. There are too many permitted residents on site. The say on their website "No camper will have the look of being used as a permanent residence." yet you can clearly tell those that have been there much longer than a few days, a couple of weeks or even a month. You have to have quite time starting at 10 pm to 8 am...who goes camping and is always in bed an quite by 10 pm? With that said who goes camping and is always quite and in bed until 8 am...especially with children. No lay out chairs around the pool. It's very sad that this place is called a campground, and has the potential of being a great campground if it was not a permitted resident for a lot of people making it look and feel like a trailer park. read more

Told twice that storage was available over the phone. When I brought my camper down to store the same day, I was then told storage was full. The personnel seemed to not care instead kinda laughed that it happened. They won't allow you to pay advance for storage to mitigate this problem. read more

We have stayed at this campground for 4 nights in a Class A diesel pusher. We have 50amp electric and no problem with running our 2 air conditioners 24 hrs a day with the extreme heat of this summe. We came here because of its close proximity to Virginia Beach and Norfolk and reasonable price, much less than other RV Campgrounds close bye. This is a large working farm with horses and crops, an area of full time residents in RVs of a variety of conditions and class. We did not come to socialize and enjoyed our stay here. Evidently they have a huge business of a storage facility that is out in the open and on a grass field - at least 150 but mostly old run down vehicles of some sort. It does spoil the landscape but there is an abundance of security on the place and we found it to be very quiet. The traveling RV customers are in a section apart from the rest except for a few long term occupants mixed in. There is NO shade here - otherwise it is a quaint place in the country. read more

Do not do business with these thieves! Do not even make reservations here! This place will charge you to cancel your reservations even when you are canceling 11 days ahead of the reservations. When I made a reservation over the phone they did not mention anything about a cancelation fee, and when I called back 2 days later they refused to give me a full refund stating that they have a policy of returning only 80% of the deposit if canceled that far in advance, and 0% refund for cancellations the day of. When I asked them if they were seriously going to charge me $9 to cancel reservations 11 days out they cheerfully stated "Yup, thats the policy!" Apparently $9 dollars is worth more to them than bad reviews on all the websites. read more

Chesapeake Campground runs several businesses from the same facility and his review is for the storage facilities they offer. They storage facilities are basically several large fields set up like a parking lot with split rail fencing used to separate the individual spaces. For your monthly storage fee you receive 24hr access to your stored items and maintenance personnel keep the grass cut around your items. I personnel stowed my boat at the facility for approx 5 years with no issues. It is only recently that I made the decision to find a new storage facility and found issue with the business. When I originally stored by boat I signed a month to month contract. The contract basically requires me to pay the agreed upon fee and stipulates that if I am delinquent by 30 days I nust remove my property or it shall become the legal possession of Chesapeake Campgrounds. As I have no issues paying my bill on time this was not of a major concern to me. Shortly after signing the contract we were informed that the storage fee would be increasing. The increase was reasonable so we maintained our contract. There we no changes in this agreement for several years. Then approx 18 months ago we were informed that the fee would be going up. Again the increase was reasonable and we chose to maintain our contract. Then 6 months later we were again informed that the storage fees would be going up. This seemed a little excessive as so we started to look at other facilities. In the mean time we decided to pay up to the end of the year in order to lock in the current rate. This seemed to be the right decision as we again received a letter stating that the fees would again be going up at the end of the year. This was the third rate increase in 18 months and the reason we decided it was time to find a new storage facility. The new facility was not only closer to my home but the monthly fee was less than the original fee I had contracted for with Chesapeake Campground. I contracted Chesapeake Campground to cancel my storage agreement on the 25th of May. When speaking with the employee who runs the facilities retail store I was told that they do not give refunds and that I would simply be out the 7 months of fees that I had paid in advance. I informed the employee that my contract did not stipulate that the fees were not refundable. I was informed that there was a sign in the retail store that stated there were no refunds. As I had only been in the retail store one time, when I originally signed the contract 5 years ago, I could not recall any such sign. I asked to speak with the owner and was told that the owner was not available. I asked for a phone number so that I could contact the owner directly and was informed that the owner would not speak to me directly. The employee would relay my request for the refund and then contact me. They could not give me any idea of how long this would take as they were not going to actively reach out to the owner but would simply wait for the owner to come in to the retail facility. The next day my wife received a phone call from another employee and was informed that the owner had been contacted and had agreed to a partial reimbursement. If I removed my boat and canceled the agreement before the end of May I would be charged for June. If my property stayed on the facility for any portion of June I would be charged for all of June and for July. Remember that the contract I signed was a month to month agreement. If I had not paid ahead Chesapeake Campground would not have any way of assessing this additional fee/penalty. So if I wanted any portion of my money back I had no choice but to agree to pay the additional month's fee. I believe that this practice is not only immoral but illegal. However, the cost of perusing any legal action would far exceed the amount I have lost. When we went in to the retail store to close out the account and get our refund check I looked for the no refund sign. It atates that there are np refunds on purchases, rentals, or camping. Based on the fact that I signed a contract for the storage facilities which never mention that there is a no refund policy I would not have connected the sign with anything outside of the retail store. I did noticed that there was another individual signing a storage contract while we were waiting. The contract that individual had in front of him appeared to be much more detailed than the one I had signed 5 years ago. I cannot go into any detail about what it does or does not stipulate. I do know from my conversation with the original employee I spoke with that Chesapeake Campground now charges a deposit when signing a storage contract. My advice to anyone seeking to store items with this facility would be to read the contract closely. Never pay ahead and when terminating your contract, be prepared to lose any deposit you may have paid. I believe this to be the reason I was charged for an additional month. They had no deposit to keep. read more
