Romero Funeral Home is incredulously unprofessional and held my grandmother's body hostage for a…read morecost that was never agreed upon by our family, making our difficult experience, unbearable. They came and took our loved one's body and transported her to Pueblo at the request of a 3rd party, from a rural area in southern Colorado. When my parents contacted them to understand what was being done, what next steps needed to happen, pricing, etc., Romero's decided to then inform them that they do not service the area from which they picked her up from. So my parents proceeded to ask how much they needed to pay for the unauthorized transport, and the office stated it would be $375. Although not happy about it, we decided to pay it in order to take care of my grandmother and get things moving in the right direction. We had our chosen funeral home contact them for release, and they then stated it would be $593 instead, refusing to release her to the chosen funeral home (Angelus) until their undisclosed charges were paid in full. We learned after this occurred, that this is not the first time this type of mistreatment has occurred to a grieving family by Romero's! Two weeks prior to our incident, another family experienced similar treatment by Romero's. Everyone, please do your research and read reviews when taking care of passed loved ones. Some do not take care of grieving families as they should, and Romero's seemed to take advantage of the situation. I will say a great alternative is one we chose (Angelus Chapel Mortuaries) who have been phenomenal in helping us navigate this issue and helping ease the stress going forward. I hope this helps at least one person avoid the trauma my family is going through. God Bless.

Our funeral directer Rick was amazing and patient to work with out of state family to pay for the services. My father didn't want a lot of fuss, we really went as simple as possible, no visitation, no service, just a very intimate family viewing of the body and cremation. Even with the limited services that T. G McCarthy was providing us they went above and beyond. They showed as all the options we had available but we never felt pressured to add on services. For the services we did receive we found that the prices were upfront and clear, with no hidden fees. Rick even helped us set up a flag presentation from the Navy. We were not prepared for my father's passing but I am so thankful we found Rick at T. G McCarthy, he helped us every step of the way.

The morning I brought Zeus here was one of the worst days of my life. Zeus wasn't just my dog--he…read morewas my heart dog, my constant companion, and one of the greatest loves of my life. I arrived completely devastated, carrying the weight of a loss that felt impossible to bear. What I needed in that moment was compassion, dignity, and a chance to say goodbye. Unfortunately, that is not what I found. As I pulled into the facility, I was immediately confronted with a scene that I will never forget. Directly in front of me were the open garage doors of an industrial building, with the cremation ovens plainly visible inside. One appeared to be operating, with the overhead indicator light illuminated. After losing my best friend only hours before, being forced to drive up and stare directly at the machinery that would soon reduce him to ashes was heartbreaking and deeply traumatic. There was no comforting environment, no privacy, no separation from the industrial side of the operation. The reality of what was about to happen to Zeus was literally staring me in the face the moment I arrived. The facility operates through a "pick up/drop off" process. Staff came to my vehicle, took payment outside, and all interactions occurred in the driveway. There was no private room to grieve, no quiet space to spend a final moment with my dog, and no opportunity to gather myself before saying goodbye forever. What hurt even more was the way Zeus was handled. He was placed on a plastic wheeled cart in the middle of the driveway under the blazing sun. The handling was rough enough that I had to ask staff to be gentle with him. Imagine standing there with your heart shattered, watching the body of the animal who slept beside you, loved you unconditionally, and trusted you completely being treated in a way that makes you feel compelled to speak up on his behalf one final time. I never received a meaningful moment to say goodbye. There was no ceremony, no privacy, no compassion--just a transaction and a driveway. I understand that cremation facilities perform difficult work, and I appreciate the service they provide. However, there is a profound difference between performing a service and caring for grieving families. The loss of a beloved pet is one of the most painful experiences many people will ever endure. The environment, the handling of my dog, and the complete lack of empathy made an already unbearable day significantly worse. If it had not been a Friday, and if I had had any reasonable alternative available to me, I would have picked Zeus up and taken him somewhere else. I will carry the memory of losing Zeus for the rest of my life. I only wish that my final moments with him had been met with the compassion, dignity, and respect that he deserved.
