However, upon completeing the job, the project manager Tim Broughton called me, helped me log on to the Enphase app so that I could monitor the panels. After I confirmed that I was logged in, I was told that I was up and running And they were done. I was happy thinking I was now running on the sun. Wrong. So very wrong. I received my electric bill and astonished to see the electric portion was over $800.00. I called the power company and was told that the $130.00 application fee had not been paid. I notified Mr. Broughton and he immediatley saw that the bill for the application fee was paid and apologized for the error. Now the fun begins. I called the power company and asked when they would be out to install the proper meter for solar panels. I was informed that no application for a meter to be installed was on file and that I had to submit an application for interconnection. Hmm? No one mentioned anything to me about completing and application or that I had to contact the power company. I completed the PTO (Permission to Operate) form and based on the questions being asked and the information I needed to provide leads me to believe the Solar company was responsible for completing this form and sending the required fee. Ok. Lets not look to for someone to blame, lets just get the proper meter installed. I completed the PTO and submitted it. The power company came out a couple of weeks later and installed the a new meter. Onlyit was not a meter for solar panels. They installed the same new meter but it was the same meter as the meter I already had. I asked them why they didn't put on a solar meter and I was told that I needed to submit a PTO for a SOLAR METER, which is different. And by the way, they have a special person that installs solar meters and a special person to install regular meters. This seemed rather stupid to me. I ask the power comapany rep for the contact info for the solar department and he told he didn't know. I won't name the power company. LADwp. The one good thing the DWP rep did upon arriving to his office was to send an email to contact the proper department at the power company. I assumed he would have just gone about his business and let me flounder. I started on the second application which asked for job site photos. This was to me another indication that the solar installer was suppose to complete this form because Joe Citizen would not know what photos they were required. I did observe that periodically, the workers would take photos, but none were ever sent to me. Now I'm in the middle of August 2026 with fingers, legs, arms, eyes and anything else, maybe the dogs and cats, crossed hoping that this time I will get a meter. The bottom line is I would still recommend AWS SOLAR to anyone, but I'd have to caution them to make sure they get you connected and ALL fees are paid. Because I was dealing with the City of LA and being constantly sent to voice mail and waiting for call backs, this experience was horrendous.

It's 4 year in a row now the system failed to produce the minimum guaranteed production. AWS Solar chose to compensate for the shortfall again; we'll see what the 5th year production looks like. I suggested replacing some of the panels with the higher power ones to solve the issue, but I guess they want to see more data.

They do a lot via text, which I liked, but it turned out not at all useful. I would text for updates, and hear nothing back. I would call to find out my contact was out of the office, on vacation, or any number of excuses. This went on for many weeks. I did not know the date for installation until a delivery of equipment showed up at my house unannounced. It was a good thing I happened to be home that day! I thought the installation itself had gone well. They installed the system in two days and everything looked great. Then, I had to wait for the meter collar to be installed. I was told it was going to be performed by their technician. Turns out it has to be done by SCE and that had not been scheduled. After I called again, SCE was finally notified. SCE arrived several days later to discover the cables were too short to install the meter. Now I have wait again for OC solar to come out again and fix this issue and wait again for SCE to finally install the meter so that I can use my new system. I hope the system works.

After months of waiting, I tried following up multiple times privately to give them a chance to make it right, but I am now being completely ignored. We're one of the oldest solar installers in California, since 2011. REC solar panels, Enphase inverters and batteries, Tesla Powerwall 3 batteries. The utilities will NOT let you get rid of your entire electric bill with a solar PV system. They will buy back your unused solar for 8 cents a kwh, but on the solar billing rate that they put you on, they raise the rates you buy from them! So, essentially, they get your unused solar production for free. We've calculated the bottom line of who gets what from your solar production from PGE at 52% solar used at your home, 48% solar the utility gets for free. Utilities are crooks. So, in order to reduce your bill to the minimum grid charge of $20-$30, you'll need to get a battery or two. The payback on solar PV is generally 4.5 years for a medium sized system, so it's still a great deal, even though you only reduce 52% or so of your bill. Payback on solar PV + batteries is anywhere from 4.8 to 5.5 years. The Tesla Powerwall 3 plus PV systems are by far the best value and the best looking, as there are only 2 components to add, as the Enphase systems are 6 to nine components on your wall and take up a large amount of wall space. Besides our low prices, we have group discounts too. $.05 per watt off for two installs $.10 per watt off for three or more installs for each customer.
