Within an hour of posting my initial review regarding a delayed referral bonus, the owner personally reached out, apologized for the administrative oversight, and sent the $500 immediately. I really appreciate the direct accountability and quick resolution. I'm leaving my original review below for transparency, but their prompt response today restored my confidence in their management. I originally had a positive experience with California Solar Electric during my 10.12 kW solar and Powerwall 3 installation last year. Unfortunately, their post-install customer support and business ethics are nonexistent. I referred a friend who completed their installation months ago. I was explicitly promised a $500 referral bonus for this. After months of waiting, I tried following up multiple times privately to give them a chance to make it right, but I am now being completely ignored. It's a shame because I have several neighbors here in Fountain Valley who are currently shopping around for solar and battery storage. I was planning to refer them here, but I cannot recommend a company that fails to honor its own written agreements and ducks communication. Buyer beware: the installation team does good work, but do not trust a word management says about referral incentives or post-sale promises. Still waiting for my $500. read more

California Solar and Electric was great to work with. But I wanted to provide a more detailed review than I normally do as this was a bit more complicated than just going out to dinner. At my old home I had solar installed without any kind of battery backup as at the time battery backup was really not an option. Solar was pretty good but did not provide me with a zero bill. When I sold that home and moved into my new home the cost was more than I wanted to spend. Fast forward three years and prices have come down and with the federal tax credit expiring I decided to make the investment as the cost of electricity seems to keep going up. I wanted to go with Tesla as being a big company I thought they would be a good choice. The first problem I had with them is you can't reach a person to talk to. And for the amount of money this costs I was not really comfortable, however I moved on and paid a deposit and started the process in September of 2025. When I finally was able to speak with a person they told me that they could not guarantee that they could complete the installation by the December 31, 2025 deadline, really 4 months of lead time? I canceled Tesla and looked around at my other options. Shelter came to my home and we spoke. They were knowledgeable and the salesperson was really nice, however their price was a huge difference from the other two quotes that I received. Quantium was another company that I spoke with, and I was ready to use them as they were much bigger than California Solar and I thought that might be a better option, plus a neighbor had used them and were happy with them. However when I got the contract from them it basically stated that they wanted a $1000 deposit and if they found that I needed additional work and if I did not want to continue then I would loose my deposit, that seemed outrageous so I told them that I would not continue with them. Note that after I had decided to go with California Solar and Electric they told me they would give me the deposit back if that would happen, but by them I had already signed the contract with California Solar and Electric and honestly was happier with them at that point. I spoke to Mark Howe and he was excellent. I told him about Quantium and he sent me a copy of their contract and told me that they did not do that. His price was the same and the equipment was the similar. Note that they actually had to upgrade my solar panels and did not charge me any additional fees. They also did some additional work to allow more of my home to be backed up than their original quote. Mark told me that he could get the job done before the tax deadline so I signed with them. The process took a bit of time as we had to get permits and approval from the HOA. But the system was installed on time and fully completed well before the deadline. They actually worked on the installation during huge winds and rain. It did take a day or two longer to complete than what they originally thought. One of my batteries was bad out of the box and that created a bit of an issue but Henry was amazing and took care of everything quickly and professionally. He was even nice when I messed up and scanned a QR code that I thought would download a different app but it basically erased my home from my app. Note to self, double check before scanning QR codes. All in all the process was professional and was handled as quickly as possible. Communication was good even though they were swamped trying to get everyone installed before the end of the year (2025). Everyone that I dealt with was really nice and easy to work with. I think I must have driven Bella their wonderful assistant, crazy calling so often. Of course Henry had to deal with all of my questions which he handled and made me feel very comfortable. Meeting the Dec. 31 deadline for tax credit was of utmost importance to us, and despite it adding a lot of anxiety to this project, California Solar and Electric came through with their promise to get it done, and with time to spare. Their quote, plus their high reviews made them the logical choice, and we have no regrets. From the person who did the site inspection, Jose, to the installers, everyone seemed very friendly, respectful of our property/wishes, and it was clear they were experienced and knew what they were doing. Being up against a deadline, we really couldn't afford to fail the city inspection, and we passed easily. Thanks to the salesman Mark Howe for his direction, & to Henry Melling for a great design and implementation. We were not excited at the idea of having all that stuff on the side of our house, but honestly, the installation was so neatly done, with a few plants added over there, I'm sure we can acclimate. UPDATE TO MY REVIEW DATED 6/20/25: Because the business manager Nairy commented, this is my response to her. First of all, I never met Nairy nor talked to her. Second, Nairy, if you had read my review, which you clearly did not, you would have seen I never progressed to having work done because of my interactions with Mr. Lowe. This was clearly written in my review but either you chose to ignore it or you are trying to spin the situation. The attached emails are proof of my issues. In the one dated 5/13/25, he wrote "...we HAVE to upgrade the panel..." but during my telephone conversation about this, said it was sent to the wrong person, despite the heading of the email which indicated "Phani-". The second email, dated 6/10/25, indicated "Sorry, this was sent in error...". Again, he sent an email in "error." Hence, Nairy, I believe the misunderstanding is solely on your part or that of your company, not on my end. The emails show that he clearly intended to send me a notification that I needed to upgrade my panel but when I spoke to him on the phone, he was defensive and blaming me for even asking about it in the first place! As I said, I'm very happy I chose another company for my needs, even though it was more money out of pocket to do so; the peace of mind was worth it for me. read more

I purchased my house last year and have very little time to put solar on my roof before the tax credits expired in the end of December. I contacted a local, highly reviewed company and they pressured me to move very quickly with very little information, which left a sour taste in my mouth. My next door neighbor recommended the company he used, California Solar & Electric. Despite a narrowing window to complete the project and so many people desperately wanting solar, my experience with this company was pretty smooth end-to-end and I would definitely recommend them. My only small critique was that at times I felt like I had to reach out to them to get updates/information, and it was occasionally hard to speak to who I was looking for, but again, the whole industry was slammed during that time period so I really couldn't fault them. This company is by far the best solar company out there. We all know what it feels like to have Solar pushed down our throats when walking through Lowe's or Costco, and I have had a few of them come and give quotes on how they can "save" me money by charging me the same as Edison does and want to use the cheapest solar tech they can. This review is a long time coming. I've actually dealt with this company twice in ten months. The first time they installed twenty REC 410w solar panels, IQ8A micro inverters, System Controller 2, Combiner Box, and a single Enphase 10T battery. When I first called them I had two proposals from other solar companies and though I decided initially on another organization, Mark Howe asked if he can send me a counter proposal. He not only beat it with a lower price, but he gave me a feature that was important to me---backup power during a power outage. The process and installation was seamless from CS&E's end. I did run into permitting issues with LA County Fire Inspector with the requirement of having my smoke detector hardwired in my garage since I have batteries installed inside. CS&E graciously fixed the issue by having someone come to my house and hardwire the smoke detector and I passed the second time around. I got my Permission to Operate a month later and have been happy with it since. After ten months of observing my system, I decided to install a second Enphase 10T battery to reduce my reliance on the grid even further. I did my due diligence and gathered three proposals including CS&E. Once again, they quoted me a much lower price than the other two. Within three weeks, they had it installed and was up and running and now I rarely touch the grid with an average of 1.2kw of daily usage from SoCal Edison. Special thanks to Mark Howe (VP Sales) and Christopher Massoth (Owner) for a wonderful experience in the installation of my Enphase system. Other companies were recommending worse solar panels for higher prices. I had no issue with the timeline of the install. I went through several solar companies before settling with California Solar & Electric. To be specific, I have gone through Sunpower, Tesla and Solar Optimum. They are all pretty good until when the design involves customization. I need the battery to be placed in a designated location rather than the most convenient location which is outside of my bedroom wall. Other solar companies' project managers/energy consultants do not want to bother with customize the designs for their customers. After I have expressed to them my desired location for batteries, they either want to talk me out of it by telling me it will cost me thousands of dollars extra or recommend another even worse location. It occurred to me that they only know how to do things in cookie cutter way. In the past, before NEM 3.0, solar batteries were not a necessity. Since April of 2023, solar batteries became an essential part of the design. Finding a good spot to mount the batteries may be a challenge to many solar companies if you want to put them at a non-traditional spot. If you have a simple house with plenty of wall space, going with any of those companies will not be a problem. But if you are like me, my house does not have a lot of wall space, it's either windows or juniper trees covering the walls. That's when things got tricky for those companies. None of them were able to provide me with a satisfying design. Enter the California Solar and Electric. I spoke to Chris the owner about my concern on battery placement and he immediately provided me with his feedback and recommendations. He provided me with solution on how to place the batteries at my preferred location. I was very impressed!! I had to spent 3 weeks going back and forth with an energy consultant at Solar Optimum on the battery location and Chris just provide me with a perfect answer on the first time I spoke to him!! The whole installation went smoothly. The city inspection went flawless. I got my PTO about 2 months after. I highly recommend California Solar and Electric. I had previously tried to do this a couple of times before but could not find a company that I felt comfortable doing business with. I found what I was looking for with this company, and the experience of working with them exceeded my expectations. Every member of their team was very professional. No surprises through the entire process. They did all of the work for the approval process with the county and city. The quality of the installers and their work product was outstanding. I cant say enough about the service, workmanship and quality of their people. If I were doing another home I wouldn't bother calling anyone else to do it but them. Their prices are fair in comparison to the market. I was worried about roof leaks after they were done and I had my roofer go up and look after it was installed and even he made a comment about the high quality of the work that was done. The Solar field is filled with some very unsavory characters. That's NOT true of Mark Howe or Chris Massoth - I find them both to be decent guys. In my case, they originally suggested a system that - to be fair - a couple of other competitors also suggested - but wasn't right for my home. Two other companies set me straight (thank you, Yelp, for bringing more than one company to my attention). After that, I did have a negative moment with Chris, BUT: and this is important - both he and Mark did their best to clean that up, and to try to understand what my needs actually were. (The truth is, the entire problem started and ended with Sunrun, which gave me an awful deal 9 years ago. And that was not California Solar's fault). While I didn't move forward with California Solar, I felt that these were honest people who care about their customers and their reputation, and aren't about to walk away from a challenge, or even a negative moment with a client. These cruel upward trends in electricity & gas prices made it easier for us to finally decide to go solar! And by "us", I mean my husband, Wes. To say that Wes researched the how's & why's, the pros & cons, anything & everything about solar energy is an understatement! He spent several weeks (maybe months?) Googling, Youtubing, discussing with family, friends & neighbors, and took so many phone appointments with different reps from about 2 dozen (maybe 3 dozen?) solar companies to learn everything he can and negotiate the best package... to the point where he became so knowledgeable that some of the sales reps thought HE was a sales rep from a competitor! Finally, he decided on @california_solar_and_electric because they proved to be the most upfront & honest from the very beginning. They weren't the cheapest of all the companies (just in case you're thinking Wes was looking for the cheapest products in order to get the cheapest deal), but they weren't about the bullshit and were able to provide Wes with the quality products & service that he wanted. Once Wes gave them the thumbs up, everything moved quickly! Yesterday, the guys were here for installation. They were so professional, considerate & polite, and worked all day in the heat to get it done! All thats left is final inspection and getting connected with SCE! I was referred over to CS&E by my brothers who have used them a total of 3 times and they were happy with their panel installation. I don't know about their service, but after the sales person, the service has been terrible. Their operating team and Chris lack in communication. I was going through a refinance of my home and I asked when the UCC would be filed to avoid any issues with my lender and I was told it would be filed after completion so no problem. We get to funding the project and the solar panel lender tells me they will file the UCC after funding. Bad information there. Whatever we decided to proceed knowing it would likely cost me some extra $ on my refinance to subordinate the UCC. This was funded 11/2024. The worst part is that their ops team could not give me an install date. Multiple follow ups and nothing. Not only that, it was me checking in with them on delays after delays. Talked to Chris, owner, eventually to get it scheduled. Install would take place in January 2025. It was scheduled for a Monday and Tuesday so prior to this I checked in to make sure that was still happening and no it has been delayed for Tuesday Wednesday. Which is not bad but the lack of communication is because I took time off on Monday. The crew who did the install was great. No issues with solar panels so far but I did upgrade my electrical panel with them and I now seem to have spontaneous flickering of my ceiling lights. They came out and checked it out 1 time but still happens. My last issue is with me asking them for a copy of the final invoices and final permits. This was requested from Chris directly multiple times and again just fails to respond. He did send over a paid invoice for the overall project, but is having a difficult time breaking down the costs and sending over the final permit. The final permit I had to get at the city so whatever. I just can't get the breakdown for costs so I can update my homeowners insurance. read more

It's been a little over a year and a half since my panels have been operational and I haven't paid Edison a dime since. I did have a few random problems with my house that, in a moment of panic I thought might have had something to do with the panels and each time Chris sent someone right away to check things out even though those things happened almost a year after installation. The installation turned out to be flawless and I was very impressed with the continued care that Chris shows for his customers and the steps that he takes to ensure that you aren't experiencing any problems with his product. I originally had 18 solar panels that came with my house when I first purchased it back in 2017. Unfortunately these were not efficient enough to cover the cost of my electric bill. My home is $3200 sq ft live in with 2 ac units built to it. During summer time I was paying over $400 extra to Edison on top of my current solar bill. I finally made the decision to buy extra panels to cover the extra cost of my rising electric bill. I did some shopping around before I decided to finally settle with California Solar & Electric. I purchased additional 17 more panels to help off set my electric bill and to be locked in on NEM 2.0 Overall the whole process was smooth. They took care of everything from site survey, designing, permitting and installing. Im currently just waiting permission to operate. This is out of their control on how long it takes. I was lucky enough to find CS&E. was originally going to go with another company but that other company had bad review then i yelped and found CS&E. Mark from CS&E broke everything down for me on payments, scheduling, installation, and etc. Really appreciated that. when i asked how many panels i should get mark looked at my SCE bill and said from your average bill you need about this much solar panels. When it came to the install, we scheduled and they were in and out in 1 day. I Highly recommend CS&E. I am pleased to see on my cell phone every day how the solar energy input to the system(house of 5 bedroom two story) , how much consumed by the house and how much energy (extra kw) export to the grid.
