I am going on an expensive high-end trip so I would expect a travel agency to be attentive, communicative, and check in on occasion. Judy Perl does none of the above. I had to reach out to them when final payment was due because I hadn't heard from them in months. When my credit card company flagged the large charge and declined it, I had to figure it out for myself. No one reached out. And once it was cleared up, I had to check in to make sure I was all paid. You think they'd want to be sure that their travelers were paid?!? And now I'm about a month out from the trip which requires a specific packing list and I have not heard a thing. I went back to the confirmation of my trip from a few months ago, one of the few communications they initiated, to find a link to a website and figure out where within the website to find the recommended packing list. From other agents or agencies I've used in the past, this is something they would have already reached out on. Even discount agencies I've used have been more proactive. Don't expect full service from this travel agency, even if you're paying a premium. I hope New York Times finds another agency to work with. Otherwise, I would have second thoughts about booking another trip with the New York Times and after this experience I'd never use Judy Perl on my own.

We reached out to Tamar who told us that she would be able to help and that we can expect to receive our new passport by 8/1. (We reached out to other agencies prior to speaking with Tamar. These agencies told us that the earliest they would be able to get us our passport would be on 8/3- our day of departure). Tamar helped us through every step of expediting our passport and we felt confident in her service. The directions on Tamar's website were clear and easy to follow. We made sure to complete all of the paperwork that was listed on the website and provide everything that was asked (travel itinerary with name, check, photos, etc). We hand delivered our paperwork to Tamar's office in FiDi in the late morning of 7/26. We periodically called in to check for status updates and Tamar was always super responsive and helpful. CVSC charged $329 for a 24-hour emergency business visa to China whereas CVNY only charged $225--it was a huge savings so I decided to chance it even though CVNY only had one review. When you arrive at their offices, you may be confused. The plaque outside the office says "Russian-American Consulting" and the interior is filled with Russian posters and flags, but you're at the right place. I was helped by Luzette who was extremely friendly and helpful. She noticed that I had added some info that might confuse the visa officials so she helped me re-type my form. (FYI: You must bring a photo taken within the past 6 months; I tried to use a duplicate passport photo but the passport "date of issue" would have made it obvious that the photo was too old.) Luzette was efficient; I probably only spent 15 minutes in the office. There were some delays however on the day I was supposed to pick up my passport. Luzette called at 4:30pm to say that my passport had finally arrived back at the office by messenger. She was extremely apologetic because that only gave me 30 minutes to pick my passport up before they closed at 5pm. But luckily, someone at the adjoining office was able to stay until 6pm and I picked it up with minutes before the office was locked up. I'd most definitely use their services again.
