My daughter's 1st birthday is coming up and I decided I'd do an edible favor for everyone and landed on truffles! After a referral from a neighbor, my friends and I signed up for the Tempering & Truffle class, and it was so fun! You can bring your own flavor mix-ins for the ganache or experiment with what they have (which is a LOT). Dawn led our class and shes a hoot! Coming away I finally understand why I could never Tempering chocolate properly, which has been a struggle for year. But also how to make truffles! I made 5 dozen that came out stunning and hope our guests enjoy them! Last month I took the 3 hour Cake piping decoration course ( $120) and learned an incredible amount. I had never decorated a cake before, and had somehow volunteered to bake a wedding cake for my nephews upcoming wedding. Dawn was an excellent teacher, very well prepared, easy going but exacting. There were 6 other students, and we all went home with 3 small cakes which we had decorated for practice. As Dawn suggested, I continued practicing back home and felt pretty confident when it was time to construct and decorate a 6 layer cake. She had EVERYTHING you could want and will find/order what you don't. I thought of many little things I hadn't found in my home town. I found a variety of Dutch cocoa's, cake filling that tasted like it was homemade, imported baking chocolate, cutters for my sugar gum flower's petals and a fabulous heavy, professional grad turntable. I looked online and found this awesome shop in Lynnwood and was going to be in the area for a graduation party. I stopped by and told her what I needed and she recommended Guittard wafers, which I had never used before. She explained how to melt it and offered me pastel butter to put in my chocolate if it was too thick. Dawn was so sweet and extremely helpful! My husband and I stopped in here a few weeks ago after spotting this store across the parking lot when we were leaving Chops. We saw them doing a truffle making class while we were there and it looked fun so we signed up for one. We went back this past Saturday for the class. It was a ton of fun and we got to learn about tempering chocolate. We then got to make our truffles. We each got 36 shells, with our choice of dark, milk or white chocolate. For fillings, they had dark chocolate ganache, white chocolate ganache, and caramel. They also had a ton (probably well over 100) of different flavors, compounds, nut butters, etc to mix into your filling. We could make as many different flavor combinations as we wanted which was so fun. After filling all of our truffles, we sealed and then dipped them. We then got to decorate them and had our choice of sprinkles, toppings, and edible glitter. They turned out gorgeous! The class was a lot of fun and the teacher was great. We spoke with Dawn when we first signed up and you could tell she clearly has a passion for what she does. She was incredibly informative and so nice. We liked it so much we're even going back for their chocolate 101 class this next weekend as a surprise for our niece and nephew. The classes are reasonably priced, particularly since you get to take home a ton of chocolates. Also, the truffles we made were delicious! Highly recommend this place. read more

Cute little baking supply shop in Lynnwood. Stopped here because I started baking during quarantine and needed more supplies. They have so many things for baking and I love you can actually see all the products rather trying to visualize it when you buy it online. I attended the cake decorating class called "Cake Trends 2", which was a 4 hour class that went over everything from basic crumb coating with chocolate ganache to more advance techniques like mirror coating (which was really what I wanted to do, considering how amazing those cakes always look on Instagram). First of all, I did originally know that the class was about 4 hours, but you really don't understand how much time that is until you're decorating cakes for that long. It's a great opportunity to do something that I normally don't do (once I'm done baking, usually I'm too lazy to decorate and just want to eat it instead), and gave everyone in the class an opportunity to decorate at their own pace. The class had a wide breadth of different types of cakes, including the mirror cake I previously mentioned. Other than the mirror cake, we worked with different tools such as baking spatulas, cake combs, and different piping bag nozzles to create different looking cakes. The piéce de resistance was the hedgehog cake we created at the end with a little bit of fondant, and it may be too cute to eat. I, however, did not know that I would be taking 5 cakes home. 5 cakes is a lot. And like the "4 hour" class, you really don't know how much cake that is until you see boxes piled on your kitchen counter at home. It's really great to have 5, uniquely decorated cakes to take home at the end, but it's a lot of cake so be prepared to distribute some to your friends or family. Overall, the class is really a fantastic value and it's a really good full day event (we started at 10 am but really didn't leave until about 2:45 pm). If you're going with someone close to you, just remember that in total number of cakes you take home is 5x your party size. The instructor mentioned a family of 4 took home 20 cakes total, and with that many cakes you might just be forced to start a baked goods shop. read more

I was searching high and low for meringue powder to make icing for some cookies and could not find any in the big name stores for the life of me! Lynnwood Walmart was sold out, per online Michael's was sold out too. I really didn't know where I was going to find meringue powder (also it's less than a week before Christmas, so that's been working against me too) I was preparing to drive myself to Everett in search of meringue powder when I decided to do a quick search on Yelp for "baking supply store", and Dawn's Candy & Cake Supply Shop popped up! Less than 2 miles from me and open till 9? I had to check them out before I drove myself to Everett in downpour during traffic hour! Dawn's is a small shop next to H Mart. When I walked in, the ladies were in the back. I slowly looked around, but personally I had no idea what meringue powder looked like lol. So I asked one of them, and they walked over to a shelf and said, here you go there's two options, a large or a small container of it! Score! I found my meringue powder and I didn't have to drive far to find it! I bought: - meringue powder $5.99 - a small bag of Christmas sprinkles $2.29 The lady who rung me up also said they teach baking classes and handed me a schedule. After flipping through the Yelp photos and seeing the classes they have to offer, I def need to sign up for one! Such an awesome store! read more

Above and beyond is the only way I describe my 2 experiences at Dawns! I went in looking for all things purple for my Prince loving daughters cupcakes for her birthday. The girl helping me was new and she helped the best she could. She went off her own experiences which was totally personable. After getting home and starting to work on my cupcakes a couple days later I realized what was suppose to be buttercream was shortening and the eggs shell containers were way too small. I loaded up the little guy and went back to the shop. Not only was I greeted with a smile but everything was fixed and without question. Not only that but I was given 2 buttercreams for my trouble and 4 boxes to replace the 2 egg shell containers. I didn't go in looking for free stuff just to swap out for the right size. But it was insisted and I was very pleased with the quality of customer service I was given! This store is beautiful. It has so much fun stuff. The sprinkles are various colors sizes and shapes. I was told they will dye sprinkles for you and customize. I could spend a lot of money in here and probably will! For my daughters cupcakes I bought butter cream, galaxy glitter topping in blueberry and lemon filling. All of which are shelf stable! I also bought some glitters that were amazing especially the gold! I can't wait to make more so I have a reason to go back and get more! read more

I was tasked with making my cousin's birthday cake and I was in need of both supplies and ideas. Dawn's Cake & Candy Supply had the items and helpful tips to get me started. I've purchased fondant, cake boards, pastry bags, molds, melting chocolate, and even gold luster. They also carry piping tip sets, cake toppers, cake pans, and even buttercream. My friends and I first heard of Dawn's Candy & Cake Supply when we purchased a voucher for their Chocolate 101 class on Groupon. Charmingly local, Dawn's is a quaint, neighborhood shop in the Bothell area that offers a variety of candy supplies and classes, such as packaging material, chocolate wafers, tempering classes and so on. Roughly two hours long, the Chocolate 101 class covers the basics of chocolate molding and includes a plastic mold that you can take home. To sign up for a class, check their schedule online and call to reserve a spot! :) Our instructor was very personable and kept the class engaged. The class itself seemed to appeal to a variety of new and repeat visitors, from a family with younger children to a group of older ladies. While the cost of the class covers the first chocolate mold, Dawn's offered a 10% discount for each additional mold that we wanted to use. They also emphasized that unlike huge, brand name stores, Dawn's only carries a certain amount of chocolate in store to maintain the quality and freshness. They even carry a bunch of candy fillers like nuts, caramel, etc. I also love their assortment of packaging options - they have everything from little chocolate boxes to goodie bags of different sizes! I really have loved the classes I took here. I have done truffles, cookie decorating and Christmas treats. They have a nice selection of items for baking etc. My one complaint is they never answer the phone. I wanted to register for a class and I called for 3 days straight with no answer. Here's another 5+++++++++++++++++++++ star place. Don't try to limit me with 5. I heard about Dawn's about 10 years ago (they were in Lynnwood) when my oldest was in Brownies. We went around Christmas time and did the chocolate class, we LOVED it. I returned a couple times to make chocolates. Fast forward to this last year, I discovered them again in Bothell, so I took my younger 2 to the chocolate making class.. they LOVED it. At that time they talked about some of the other classes offered, and my middle girl decided she wanted to do cake carving for her bday. I didn't think about it until 2 days ago. I looked on line and there wasn't a class anywhere near her bday....but there was one the very next day. So I signed both my girls up (ages 10, 11). HERE'S WHERE MY ADHD MEDS WOULD HAVE HELPED HAD I TAKEN THEM..... I never read the course description. I didn't do anything but look at the schedule, and the $40 cost. So when they started asking if I was bringing my own cake, or fondant, I was thinking...wtf? If you READ the website has an excellent description of the class and what it details. We opted to spend the extra $12 to have them provide the cake and fondant....making the class total $52 per person. I also failed to look at the length of the class which is 4 hours. FOUR HOURS. I had anticipated 2....because I'm an idiot. After all that let's just say this place is SUPERB. Truly. I don't even have the vocabulary to give them credit. There were 4 girls taking the class (my 2, 2 older girls). It was FABULOUS. Everything was explained so well, they are given total creative freedom, tons of ideas. I have one kid with anxiety/ perfection issues.....one with hurry up and get it done/doesn't follow direction well issues. Both made FANTASTIC cakes. So cute...their favorite thing of course... the Airbrushing!! What's more fun than color spraying everywhere? Even as the night got late, they could have easily just said, here you go....take the rest home and finish...but they didn't.
