Darla and her team did an amazing job and ended up asking for an extremely fair price for both surgeries.

One of our doggies recently has been having seizures, and he was seen by a few vets at the clinic. Dr Gravelings, Dr Armstrong and Dr Kates. They are all outstanding and caring. Especially Dr Kates, she shows a true passion in caring for animals and she was extremely patience and careful when she was examining my dog. She is very knowledgeable, understanding, and informative. She took the time to answer any of the concerns we had. And the way she communicates is non-judgemental and unbiased. We really feel that she has the heart for the animals and she really wants them to do well. We feel blessed to have found such a wonderful vet! And their vet technicians are also amazing. The one we encountered the most is Jennifer. She is very caring and gentle with our doggies. She is very helpful, and when we told her we were not comfortable bringing our doggie to Canada west for the neurology consultation because of the poor comments we saw online, she right away said she can help us forward the referral letter to a hospital of our choice. And the many small things that they have done, it really shows they care. I have seen some have mentioned here about their prices. All I can say is we have been to the metrotown animal hospital and some other animals clinics, and the South Burnaby vet is where we want my doggies to be. They treat everyone and animals with respect and care.

However, after recently attempting to send a demand letter to South Burnaby Veterinary Hospital, a veterinary clinic operated by VetStrategy, the delivery was refused. This was disappointing, as it left us feeling that our concerns were not being acknowledged. It is also important to note that Dr. Crampton has never apologized for the surgical error that led to our dog's injury. In April 2025, we brought our puppy, Lola, to South Burnaby Veterinary Hospital for a routine spay and umbilical hernia repair with Dr. Hannah Crampton. We were advised that both procedures had been completed successfully and paid accordingly. A few months later, Lola became seriously ill and required emergency care. After being referred to Canada West Veterinary Specialists, we were informed that her ureter had been ligated during the spay procedure, resulting in severe kidney damage that required surgical removal of a kidney. We were also advised that her umbilical hernia had not been repaired and still required treatment. We understand that complications can occur in any profession. What matters is how they are addressed. Lola went into surgery as a healthy puppy and now faces lifelong kidney monitoring. We had hoped for a constructive conversation about how to address the situation and support Lola's ongoing care, but unfortunately that has not been our experience.

I recently got a kitten who was showing signs of an eye infection (yellow discharge on right eye)…read more I searched yelp for a highly rated animal hospital and decided on Capitol Hill. Unfortunately, they didn't have a same day appointment, so I brought my kitten to North Burnaby Pet Hospital instead. During the exam the vet nodded and told me, "yep, that looks like an eye infection". She checked his heartbeat and ears then started trying to sell me on pet insurance and getting his final vaccination shot. She also advised me to bring him back to get neutered. She prescribed the kitten an eye gel and told me to go back in 2 weeks for his vaccination. When I left I felt like their goal was to have you spend as much money as possible with them. I didn't have that feeling like the vet genuinely cared for my cats wellbeing. 5 days has passed and my kitty's eyes weren't looking good. I called North Burnaby Pet hospital again to explain my worry and sent them a picture via email. The receptionist advised me the vet felt his eyes were looking better and it was not necessary to bring the kitten back in so soon... (Please have a look at the images. They did not look better and instead looked quite inflamed). I decided to try Capitol Hill Animal Hospital again and thankfully they had a same day appointment. Dr. Upjohn took his time to examine my kitten and explain in detail what he was doing (checking his lymph nodes, skin for irritation, breathing, temperature, mouth, eyes, etc). The exam was definitely more thorough than a simple ear and heart rate check! I also felt more at ease having a professional explain to me what they were doing since this was not my area of expertise. Dr. Upjohn told me my kitten had a fever and upper respiratory infection!! Good thing I went in and got a second opinion. I forgot to mention that during the exam a staff member came in to let Dr. Upjohn know my kitten wasn't fully vaccinated. His response to her was that the kitten was under a lot of stress and fighting off an infection. A vaccination would not be appropriate at this time and only be considered once his health improves. I'm going to be bringing my kitten here only going forward.

Assumptions about language needs: Dr. Grubac, without ever speaking to us before, asked the vet tech if we needed a translator. 2. Inconsistent diagnoses from Doctors at this clinic. Dr Radnic said our dog is skinny, we need to feel him more. Dr Grubac on the other hand said our dog is too chubby we need to cut down on his food. We went to another clinic for 2nd opinion: The dr. Is very familiar with our dog's breed and assured us his weight is perfect and healthy. 3. Money grab. Our dog vomited three times over two weeks. Based on a single blood test, Dr. Grubac said our dog needed special prescribed food, which had to be purchased from their clinic. 2nd opinion from another clinic: At another clinic, we were told that one blood test alone is insufficient to confirm pancreatitis. A physical exam was conducted, and we were advised to monitor him. Our dog recovered without further issues. 4. Rash diagnosis without examining the dog. Our dog had a deep cut around his dew claw from his weekly hike with his mountain dog crew. ItConcerned, we called Kingsway Vet. Over the phone, the vet tech suggested that the dew claw might need to be amputated without even seeing the dog. Outcome: We went to another emergency clinic, where the vet provided ointment and a bandage. The wound didn't even require stitches. I would never come back to this clinic and would not recommend anyone to.

Ruby the potato is always extremely nervous with new people and new places in general, but the staff at this clinic got her comfy and cared for on the first visit, so every time I bring her, she's happy to walk in on her own and stand on the exam table without too much panic. They always touch my heart with the care they give my sensitive little bb, I always leave feeling that both of us are calmed and cared for. Every visit they are very clear about estimated costs, they always prepare me for what the high end might be, and never add on unnecessary stuff, if anything is optional, I always feel that it is clearly explained so I can make the best choice for Rubys health and my wallet. All of the staff are always so wonderful and helpful, and clearly care about all of their patients. I've never had anything close to a bad experience with them. I have brought her for a wide variety of reasons, from regular vaccinations and checkups, to dental work with anaesthesia and everytime it's smooth and we leave better. This clinic is great!

She helped me care for my 13 year old golden diagnosed with cancer using a truly holistic approach; from teaching me how to feed her to providing acupuncture to herbal & western medicine remedies and helping me understand how important the emotional aspect is with our animals. She was also a huge help for me emotionally dealing with the illness of my best friend. A bleak diagnosis of a few weeks of life from our western medicine vet turned into a year+ of quality life working with Dr. Pollen. We took it one day at a time, not jumping the gun but staying positive & in the moment. Our goal was quality of life (not quantity) & we gave her that together. I really felt we were partners in the goal. She changed the way we care for animals forever. She is one of a kind and you would be very lucky to work with her. They butchered my dogs ear and instead of repairing his hematoma with buttons and stitches like I was told it would be, once we had him sedated and I was to leave my dog in their care, they instead chose to suture 12 tubes into his ear damaging perfectly healthy ear tissue and stitching entirely through his cartilage 24 times. Zero informed care and quite frankly, I receive better care and service advising from my mechanic. I was sent home post-op with no pain killers or meds to help my dogs recovery process and within 5 days of his surgery and 1 evening using the no flap wrap they insisted I put him in even with these gross tubes and sutures in place, he got an infection immediately. I was told there was nothing I could buy from them to help his bleeding sutures heal a bit, clearly they are unaware Otizole exists. I was provided the wrong type of medication for the site of his infection (clavaseptin instead of cefaseptin), and ultimately needed to bring my dog to a vet who actually knows what they're doing for surgical procedures and post-op care. After VVH operated on my dog, I called numerous vets in Vancouver/Burnaby area to talk to them about their hematoma repair process and NONE of them supported the procedure of stitching entirely through my dog's ear nor was it advised to have ever sent me home with zero pain meds or anti-inflammatories, or use a no flap wrap (I was told to buy one and put it on my dog immediately after his surgery) My original review was hidden by VVH likely due to the photos I attached with it which is truly comical considering their management noted surgery procedure was validated. Show the photos and full review if that's the case and stop hiding the work you're so clearly proud of and refuse to reimburse me for despite costing me $1600 in a botched hematoma repair PLUS a second surgery which I paid for at a different vet all together, and additional costs for gauze and a no flap wrap which I was told numerous times to buy and keep on my dog for 30 days. I'm lucky my dog didn't die from their malpractice and overall lack of care in our time of need.
