I've been coming to Day Dream for about a year, and have had several massages with Peter. I LOVE IT! Peter is kind and calm, has a very gentle touch, but adjusts pressure to suit my needs. A lovely, quiet place with gentle indoors lighting. Been here a fair few times and it's always been very nice and relaxing. Tried the groupon for the sauna and it was pretty awesome to have the room to yourself and switch between the facilities whenever you like. OMG. I've been wanting to find a really good massage place so I could start getting regular massages but hadn't found anyone until I found Peter at Day Dream Therapy. There is SO much to say about the service and quality of massage offered. First, Peter is very personable - you want to hug him right off the bat. Second, he sits down and talks to you about where you'd like him to focus, what issues there are - versus the normal asking you while face down in the cradle mumbling and pointing. And lastly, but far from least - his hands. I'm a big wuss when it comes to pressure and he nailed it. It wasn't too light and I *never* had to tell him it was too much. He read my tension perfectly and worked on the areas that have been giving me issues - and after one session, my knee which had been killing me for weeks felt amazing the next day. Wow. That's literally the only word I can say after my massage with Peter. I have had my fair shares of good massages (relaxation, deep tissue, etc), but this was by far the one I enjoyed the most. When I walked in, Peter greeted me, offered me a cup of water, and walked me to the massage room. The room was beautiful the way it was decorated. Very simple and modern. The ambiance was so perfect, with dim lights, light soothing music, and an aroma so pleasant I wanted to swim in it. Peter asked me questions (any injuries he should be aware of, how I like my massages, any specific region to focus on, etc.) before leaving for a moment so I can undress. The massage was so peaceful, even during moments of heavier pressure (as per my request). He put just the right amount of pressure where I needed it, and softened it where I was more sensitive. I definitely felt heard because he did exactly what I requested. During the massage he would also ask me if the pressure was okay, etc. And of course since I was soooo relaxed, I couldn't even move to answer. That's how you know you're having the best massage. After the massage, he offered me more water and also gave me a tour of the place. Very beautiful with multiple massage rooms, and a spa room where you can just rent it out yourself! I got lucky and was able to book a last minute 60 mins massage with Peter earlier today. Let me just start off by saying his smile is so contagious, he is super kind and made me feel very comfortable. He asked me questions about my back and neck pain, the time that he started the actual massage is when the 60 mins started which is so amazing. I didn't feel rushed at all. I've gotten plenty of massages to know who's good and who really loves what they do and let me tell you, Peter LOVES what he does and he's so darn good at it too. My experience at Day Dream Therapy a few weeks ago was amazing! When I got there, Lupe asked me a few questions so she could tailor the massage for me. The massage itself was excellent. She provided the right amount of pressure and checked in with me on a regular basis. She totally got all of my knots out, and I had a TON, especially in my shoulder and upper back area. After the massage, she gave me some recommended stretches as well as tips to reduce the formation of more knots. Got my prenatal massage here with Emily twice already. And I will continue to get my bi weekly massage with her till I give birth. I love it how she really listen to you and focus on concerned areas. Everytime it's a different experience for me so far (because my body is hurting at different areas). Day Dream Therapy is my go-to place for prenatal massages! I have gone to a total of 3 different places with 4 different massage therapists and Day Dream Massage with Lupe for a prenatal massage is my absolute favorite. Lupe just makes you feel so comfortable and at ease the moment you meet her. I LOVE the special pregnancy massage pillow with cutouts for your belly so that you can lay on your stomach to get a full body massage. I only had one prenatal massage where I had to lay on my side with pillows to prop me up...and that was the worst experience. Lupe customizes the massage based on the knots she feels in your body so it's not just some generic routine that most massage therapists would normally perform. She really tries to work on your problem areas. So not only do you feel relaxed during the massage, but you will also notice a difference in your body after you leave. I also love how Lupe gives you advice on how to take care of yourself after, whether it be on sleeping positions, exercise, or showing you areas to massage at home. Lupe is not only knowledgeable about massage but also about taking care of your body while pregnant. You can tell she really cares about the well-being of her clients. This review is long overdue! I was about 28 weeks pregnant when my left leg suddenly developed a persistent ache which stretched from my left butt down the back of my thigh. At first I thought it would go away if I do some gentle stretch exercises at home as the doctor instructed, but it only got worse. Soon it was affecting my walking and sitting and just making me miserable overall. Desperate for relief, I went on Yelp to search for prenatal massage. This place immediately jumped out with its glowing reviews. Chontelle's name popped up in a lot of them, so I decided to book a prenatal massage with her. Due to bad traffic, I ended up being late for my massage, but Chontelle was gracious about it. She was super friendly and made me feel comfortable immediately. The massage was great. She talked me through what she was doing each step of the way, even naming the different muscles she worked on. I told her about my leg and so she focused on that. I could feel the ache melting away as she worked her magic. There was no pain at all. Fast forward 4 weeks and I'm now almost completely pain-free on that leg! I had expected the relief to be temporary and was ready to see her again, but to my surprise the pain never returned. It still twinges a little when I stretch that leg just so but it no longer bothers my daily activities. One thing I wish I had done was to be able to leave some gratuity for Chontelle. Due to policy they aren't allowed to include tips in their credit card transactions, and I didn't have any cash with me at the time. I was horrified, but again Chontelle was a total dear and said that a review meant just as much. So here it is, my long overdue review. I highly recommend Chontelle if you're looking for prenatal massage. The only reason I haven't gone back for another yet is because she was so good that I don't need to! read more

I've been to Day Dream Spa 4 times now throughout my pregnancy. The first time in was 26 weeks and I just had my fourth one yesterday at 39 weeks. Chontelle has been my therapist and is absolutely amazing! I have always had back pain and now with my first pregnancy, it's gotten a little more difficult. She is patient, talked me through some techniques I could do at home to help and ways to help relieve my pain. My massage was definitely a dream! Yesterday, I had a "couples" massage (so we could be in the same room) with my best friend and we both had a wonderful time. First of all, I want to say that I usually don't go to massage places that often because I tend to get ticklish or my sensitive back gets pounded with so much pressure, even when I tell them to do it lightly. Secondly, I'm 35 weeks pregnant with my first child, so I didn't really know what to expect for my Mommy Massage, but let me tell you, it was AMAZING! Chontelle was so sweet and made sure I was comfortable throughout our 60 minute session. I loved how the maternity pillow perfectly fit my huge belly. I was so surprised because Chontelle found a mean 'ole knot in my back and I thought it would hurt after she kept going over it, but she kept the right amount of pressure and really helped release the tension. Mid session, I laid on my left side with a super comfortable pillow wedge for my belly and long pillow between my legs for the rest of the massage. I was so relaxed, I'm pretty sure I fell asleep like 3x and had to remind myself of where I was. I wish I could sleep like that the rest of my pregnancy! If you're pregnant, I would highly recommend coming in for a prenatal massage with Chontelle. I've had two prenatal massages with Jen, one at 36 weeks and one at 38 weeks (I raved about the first one so much my sweet husband bought me another gift certificate to go again!). Any mama-to-be knows how you want/need some serious body work done during pregnancy, beyond just the typical relaxing Swedish-style massage and DEFINITELY by someone who knows what they're doing when it comes to a pregnant body. Jen was so intuitive with the needs of my body and very skilled and knowledgable at what she does, on top of being very genuine and caring. She got down into every small little ligament and muscle in my hip area in a "hurt so good" kind of way, exactly as I was hoping for since this was my major problem area I told her about beforehand. I was still able to reach that blissed out/between awake & asleep state though, especially during the leg massage portion. I love how she debriefs with me at the end of little nuances she noticed about various problem areas. I hate to write a negative review but I think it's important that people are aware of the potential for injury during a massage. I started coming here to get prenatal massages during my first and second trimester. Initially I really liked the place, so I kept coming back every few weeks. However, during one session the therapist pulled/stretched my right arm too hard. After that I began to have swelling and pain in the elbow area. I saw her for another massage a couple of weeks later, and I told her what happened, she gave me a topical cream to put on it and didn't touch that area again. I started to really worry when I could no longer straighten my arm or lift it without getting pain. Even simple activities like putting my purse in the car or putting dishes away in the cabinet caused me pain. I went to go see an orthopedic surgeon to find out what was going on, and he diagnosed me with a partial biceps tear, radial bursitis of the elbow, and shoulder impingement syndrome. I was shocked because I have never had any injury before, and prior to the pregnancy was an active rock climber and my arm had never given me any trouble. I had to do months of physical therapy to regain range of motion and use of my arm. The physical therapist told me the only time she saw a similar injury was when a machinist got his arm stuck in a paper mill, which pulled it forcefully forward. I was so scared that I would not get the function back, worried I wouldn't be able to carry my baby or keep working. When I emailed Day Dream Therapy to tell them what happened, they sent a response saying "I'm sorry to hear you are having some discomfort" but that was all I received, no apology, and no follow up, and no refund for the several massages I had received there. I went to a certified prenatal masseuse afterwards and she told me that the therapist at Day Dream should have known that during pregnancy there is a hormone called relaxin that makes your ligaments soft, so use of force during a massage can result in injury. I really enjoy massages but now every time I get one I have to be so careful and scared of injury. I know that the therapist did not intentionally harm me, but I want them to realize they need to be careful and that they do have the potential to injure someone. read more

Very disappointed. :( I scheduled my first appointment through their online service. I received a confirmation email about my appointment time, and made sure to show up early after a loooong day at work. OOooh, I was so excited!!! Unfortunetly, Lupe told me I was not scheduled and try to blame me for her mistake of mis-scheduling (even though I had the confirmation letter in hand). Of course, I try to be nice and said I probably made the mistake and she rescheduled me on Sunday. Since I despretely needed a massage I ditched a fun Sunday in SF with my friends in order to go to the massage especially since she scheduled me in. I showed up early for the appointment and Lupe was not there. Apparently, Lupe called me 40 minutes prior to the appointment to cancel due to some party clean up, and she pretty much left a message that she had done ME a favor by changing her plans and squeezing me in on a Sunday. SHE DIDN"T SHOW UP which means she didn't change her plans, I DID. I emailed her about the whole situation, and she was very unprofessional by her accusing me of her own poor schedule management. She pretty much blamed me for making her come out on a Sunday (EVEN THOUGH SHE DIDN'T SHOW and CANCELED last minute). It's ironic- her Appointment Cancellation Policy states that she can charge you in full if you cancel on her without 24 hours notice. To top it all off, she was extremely disrespectful and rude through her emails by making derogatory, tasteless comments about my character. Honestly, she doesn't know me at all, and never did I or would I take it to that level. She caught me off guard, and I was a bit hurt by her harsh remarks. I just wanted a massage. :( I had to ask her to stop contacting me. read more

My apologies for tarnishing the perfect review record for Day Dreams, but here goes... I was looking for a great massage place in the area and I found the great review of Day Dreams on Yelp, and the even better special offer of the reduced price massage clinic after hours. There's no better way to try a new place than at a discounted price (especially during the holiday season, when money is especially tight!), so I tried calling to make an appointment. The woman who answered the phone apparently didn't have access to the "special schedule" for the clinic at the reduced price. So she took a message and promised someone would call me back. Two days later and no returned message, I called again and got the same woman. I asked if there would be a better time to call to reach someone who could access the schedule. I called back this morning shortly after they opened, as suggested, but got a machine and left a message. So far, no call back. Needless to say, I'm frustrated. The massages here may be great, but I wouldn't know, because I can't get an appointment. Will update if something changes. read more

Lupe is awesome! I was looking for a pregnancy massage and had a hard trouble finding one two years ago. I tried her out and she is awesome! She's one of the few ladies that gives good pressure (if you wanted it). She gives great side lying pregnancy massages. I tell her what I am having trouble with and she knows what to work on and how to make that problem area feel better. She also gave me some stretches to help. After I gave birth, I regularly go to her as well to help with my back issues. Tip: I use my Flexible Spending Account/HSA for the massages. I bought the family plan of 10 (35 mins massage) for $450 or so. Then when I make my appointment I add an extra 20 mins for $27 (it's 30, but since I have family plan I get 10% off). So, I am getting a 55 min massage for $72! It is so worth it and a way better massage than other places like Massage Envy. Try her out! read more

Man, I'm such a stinker for not writing a review for Lupe posthaste-- not that there aren't enough reviews extolling her awesomeness already, but I'm all about the positive enforcement. Lupe told me that she became interested in massage as she cared for her young son, who has neurofibromatosis. My impression was that she hasn't been practicing massage for a significant amount of time-- indeed, she is young, and young-looking!-- but her skills run deep, and she is extraordinarily intuitive. She is very communicative and will talk you through what she is doing, but she also listens very carefully to the body and firmly coaxes, not forces. Of course Lupe is super professional but at my visit, we got to chatting like dang girlfriends, which is charming in it of itself. I do find myself in SJ often for work and I really like knowing that if my hustling schedule sends my neck into spasms, I can come to her. read more

How have I not given this place a review? I have known Lupe for a long time and she has the most magical hands ever. She can really get into the kinks and get out all the knots. She is well trained and sensitive to your specific needs and was super-sensitive this massage around when I was having issues with laying on my chest, she was able to accommodate to make it the most wonderful massage experience. Lupe gave me one of the best massages of my life! I've gotten a lot of massages in Thailand, Indonesia, and China. The few that I've had in the US were soothing, but have always been INEFFECTIVE. Lupe's massage was in contrast, extremely effective and I left feeling really really good. I'm very athletic and have chronically tight muscles in certain spots all the time. She managed to magically dissolve some really big knots in my shoulders and neck, and now I have wonderfully increased range of motion with my arms. The pressure was perfect the entire time. Not too hard, not too soft. I appreciated Lupe checking in to make sure I was warm and comfortable and that the pressure was to my liking. She also tailored her style to my preference of wanting both trigger point therapy and long deep strokes. I was definitely impressed with her knowledge of the body's muscular system. Ah, jeez, I'm about a month late from writing an update. Came here last month (duh) for a good ol' relaxation massage as school started. Instead of Cynthia this time, I tried out Lupe (no, I'm not trying to objectify anything!) and, while my expectations were high, she surpassed it. She's very friendly, kind, and open to discussion about any topic. School, computers, massages, life, and even games. I was pretty surprised when she told me she had her good share of Super Mario Bros on the Nintendo (haha!). If one of the requirements of being a massage therapist is to befriend your client, she'd be the professor. I came in feeling welcomed and relaxed even before the actual massage started! The massage she gave was excellent, no less. She always checked up on me, as did Cynthia, to see if everything was as I wanted. I felt like I was on a boat on a warm summer day..it felt so nice. And she wasn't just a robot doing a pre-scheduled relaxation protocol and whatnot, she analyzed my muscles and sometimes would whisper to herself "Over here" or "here!" when she found a knot or a tight spot. She would proceed to try to work on the spot as best she could for a few minutes. It was actually pretty amusing but I was grateful that she treated me and most likely you and any other client like her son/daughter or something (and that's a pretty bold claim, but I believe it). We had a 70 minute meeting, but she worked on me for 95 minutes (!!). And that wasn't including the briefing and debriefing in which, like Cynthia, Lupe advised me on how to treat my body better so I "wouldn't have to come see her" (haha).
