I'd give zero stars if I could. Purchased a massage for my daughter and I but when we arrived she tried to explain that there was some glitch in the system, we had to pay more and would not be together as Joe was the only one who could massage. I opted for a facial but I don't believe she had any training whatsoever as it was the worst facial of my life. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. She is dishonest and untrained aesthetically. She was very thorough and helped me to make decisions about what specifics to consider. She was never pushy and was understanding about what I needed. Had a very bizarre and negative experience in January 2019. Tried to book online for March and was unable to find availability. My friend suggested that perhaps they did not book that far in advance. I called and left a message. I received a call back a few days later. I explained that I was turning 50 and wanted to book for myself and 3 girlfriends. I was told, as luck would have it, that they were planning to go away, but were leaving on the Sunday so they could accommodate all four of us on the Saturday and that if we all did services for greater than an hour they would arrange snacks and mimosas. I was told that texting was the best way to communicate with her, easier than playing phone tag while she is with clients so the rest of our communication is via text message. When I visited their facebook site it showed a code, valid until mid January, for 20% off. I told my friends about the code. My friends booked for hot stone massages 90 minutes. I booked one of their packages, Breakfast in Bed with hydropod. Their website showed it came with 60 minute Swedish, Basic Facial, Bodywrap, BodyScrub and Hydropod, 240 minutes, $240. I received a text frim them: "Hi so sorry for the delay in getting back to you... I'm not sure why the system was showing the hydro pod as a 240 min service but it was a glitch in our system. On our end of our booking software went to an older version (it was showing each service as individual times.) in fact we do the body scrub and the mask in the pod. The system had you in 3 different treatment rooms and waiting in between so we corrected that. The breakfast in bed with the hydro pod (this is one of my favorite treatments) does not include the massage would you like to add that? " I texted her my receipt from purchase and the screen shot from her website which shows that 60 minute Swedish is included and asked "You are saying I need to pay more for massage even though I bought online and it says these are included?" She texted back: "We corrected the wording because the pod has a massage mode that is included in it. It's not a hour full body. ? I really don't know why it says a Swedish massage. I will check that". I replied "That's why I bought it, a bit of everything on my birthday. " She replied" I'm sorry I'm not sure how the glitch got there but even the price is off on the gift card". I replied " There is an online promo for 20% off. That's the difference in price. " To which she responded " I think our system must have had a large glitch. The 20% off was for a one day only back in December as a promo for the 12 deals of Christmas. We will of course honor that but unfortunately this treatment does not come with the massage. " I was disappointed, but did not want to ruin the birthday so I planned to book and pay for the massage, but wanted to review the different types of massages they offered before deciding. Before I had replied in any way within hours I received another text, " Hello the original reason you where unable to book online is because we will be on vacation. Due to this being a special day we wanted try to rearrange our travel plans to accommodate you and your friends. Unfortunately our travel plans have gone back to the original itinerary. So we are unable to accommodate. We would be happy to give you other names of spas that could accommodate your size party. I know you originally wanted a Sunday spot and these spas are opened on Sunday." My reply: "This is very disappointing and seems very unfair. I will need you to refund me and any of my friends who bought the gift cards based on you telling us that you would accommodate us on March 2nd. You did not change your plans for us. The error was on your website including the Swedish 60 minute, was in your facebook/ website with the giftcard promo which says valid until jan 17th. This is very unprofessional. At 10:33 this morning you were still scheduling us and 2:27 you are cancelling us. Please refund my gift card." She did refund me, but what a mess. read more

Hey guess what I did! I finally got my first facial! For anyone who knows me, they all just mouthed the word "WHAATTT???". During the holiday season I entered a contest for a local spa and won a free facial! With every ounce of anxiety I booked it for a week or so later. Driving there I went through every bad experience I have had with skincare in my life. All of the skincare parties I went to where my skin felt like it was burning off even if the products was deemed "for sensitive skin", played through my head over and over again. After I parked and took a deep breathe I made my way into the building. As I entered the space it was amazing. Not only was it bright and welcoming (and smelled fantastic) but I saw they used CBD skincare products which I have been interested in. I was greeted by Michaela who was beyond welcoming and sweet. I loved her welcoming, loving and laid back attitude. She stared by showing me around the spa. I saw the couples massage room and she showed my their pod. I plan to go back to take full advantage of that amazing machine! Ask for her to explain it to you when you go in! It's amazing! Then we began the facial. She offered for me to lay under covers or over them. It was sooo nice to have the choice. Then I laid down on one of the contest massage tables I've ever been on. I felt like I was floating but being hugged my a cloud at the same time. When the facial started I was amazing at how relaxing it was. Michaela's movements over my face automatically relaxed me. I felt like I could of drifted into a state of euphoria if she just continued to massage my face. She then explained that I won a dermaplane facial. She then took a small razor and took off all the dead skin and hairs from my face. It felt like the lightest scratches and it ticketed in certain spots. After she placed a cbd mask on my face. Although not normal my skin loved it and there wasn't a mask to wash off. I guess it was thirsty and did like cbd products (haha). At the end she handed me a mirror and I felt like she had taken 5-10 years off of my skin as well as brighter my complexion. It was amazing! Needless to say.... she has converted me! As someone with sensitive/dry skin I would recommend this spa over and over again! I will be first in line when she releases her CBD skincare line!!! read more

DAY SCREAM - BODY HURTS I scheduled a wax and massage here with Michaela, the owner, and quickly learned that she was VERY inexperienced. I get waxed on a regular basis, with no problem and I have to say, she has NO idea what she is doing! My skin was left red and raw and the area was bruised. It was really upsetting because it looked disgusting and took a while to heal. My husband saw it and was horrified! I was hoping my massage that day would be a better experience, but unfortunatly it was not. She dug so hard into my skin and muscle and when I told her that it was really painful, she said not to worry and that I'd feel better the following day. The next day I was more sore and had bruises. Came in on my first day of a short vacation for a massage, facial, and ear candling - guided by the excellent reviews on Yelp. And boy were the reviews right! Michaela is both extremely pleasant and also extremely professional. She has magic hands and a wealth of knowledge that she shares as she makes you feel simultaneously right at home and out of this world. The facial was my first and I feel like it took 30 years off my 35 year old face. She also helped set me up with products to keep my face in a good condition on my vacation as I forgot to pack facial cleanser and moisturizer in my hasty retreat from Brooklyn. I'd also never experienced ear candling and was as impressed with the results as I was with Michaela's thorough explanation of the process every step of the way. I had made an appointment a month in advance. I was really looking forward to bringing my girlfriend here as daydream had great reviews and we were planned to spend the weekend in Portland. Then I found out my aunt had collapsed and was in the hospital. I called the morning of and left a message trying to explain I had a family emergency. I emailed them explaining that I had a family emergency. Today I check my account and they charged me full price. I understand that there are policies in place, but I'm sorry this is unacceptable to me. I left my phone number. I emailed and I still get charged. My girlfriend felt so bad she paid me back for a birthday present FOR HER that she didn't get to enjoy. I'll never make an appointment at this establishment ever again. I was a massage junkie, I love a great massage. Unfortunately, I was going to new places every few weeks trying to find someone who could actually make it feel like "work" was done. I like to leave feeling refreshed, less pain and looser. I went here based on a coworkers referral and haven't gone anywhere else since then! My first massage was with Joe, a 90 min targeted deep tissue to loosen up. I suffer from work and accident related back pain. When I left there I heard Angels singing when I walked back to my car. It was unreal the amount of relief I felt! I have been going to see them for 3 years now and always leave feeling improved. I sleep better after a deep tissue with Joe. I have never met a therapist that can target problem areas and relieve them as well as Joe does. He can just look at me, my posture or feel my muscles and tells me what he sees going wrong. I truly believe it is his calling in life. My posture improves and I can breathe deeper after he puts my muscles and tendons back in to place. He honestly has done better work than my 4 chiropractors I have seen over the last 3 years!! He can fix a problem in 60 minutes opposed to barely addressing the pain over 6 months of chiropractic. If you suffer from chronic pain you should go here! My chiropractor was so impressed with my body function after a massage with Joe she wrote a Dr note for me to see him weekly for one month. In fact, Joe was the first person to notice that my right leg was much shorter, thus creating more pain. I told my chiropractor that and she upset she missed that...since then all other chiropractors have noted the same. Joe releases my leg and it drops down a good inch after a session. Over time I have experienced waxing and facials with both Joe and Michaela and they are the highest quality I have ever had. You can tell these 2 have a passion for what they do. The best skin I've had all summer was after a certain peel and facial combo from Michaela. I can't wait to schedule another one! I love their skincare lines, its natural and absorbs into the skin well. Michaela also does deep tissue targeted massage but is less intense than Joe. I stick with Joe because I need serious work done. I don't know what I would do it they moved away because they are a one of a kind "bodywork" shop, I'll always see them. This place has been a godsend to getting my function back and the least I could do is share my experience with others dealing with the same issues. You won't regret it! read more

Michaela is very personable and nice, for which I'm giving 3 stars. I got a wax and once I got home was pretty disappointed - it wasn't the worst wax I've ever had but certainly wasn't good or even average. The numbing cream (which I did agree to use) was probably not a good idea because I couldn't quite feel when a thin layer of skin was taken off. Showering that evening was quite painful. I think her wax might have been too hot and ripped off too soon. It was also pretty clear that she was either nervous or uncomfortable about the whole thing, and that it's not something she does often, cause she had me get in a lot of different and crazy positions, which didn't bother me, but since I've had waxes all over I know that it's not usually necessary. Basically, I was given a wax by a very nice lady who is not that experienced at the service that was performed, and was left with quite a bit of hair (she did ask me to make sure I was satisfied but it's both hard to see while on that table and awkward to look), and some minor but very painful skin damage. I should note that I'm a very regular waxer and have little hair down there to begin with. For $70 bucks, which is almost TWICE what I pay in Boston, I was pretty pissed when the numbing cream wore off. I can't comment on her other services, massage etc., which for all I know are wonderful. However for the waxing service performed, this would definitely be a two star review if it weren't for what a nice person she is. read more

I was pressed for time, and needed a bikini wax before a week at the lake, and Joseph was the only person available at the time that worked for me, so I booked an appointment with him. I've never been waxed by a man before, and I hemmed and hawed about how awkward this could be before biting the bullet and booking. I figured that if he's comfortable doing the service, I should be comfortable receiving it. Michaela actually called me after I booked online just to double check that I was okay having a guy do the wax, which I appreciated. Joseph did the wax expediently but thoroughly and made a potentially awkward situation into a comfortable one, or as comfortable as a bikini wax could possibly be. Both Joseph and Michaela seem to care a lot about the comfort of their clients, and it went a long way to making me feel less weird about having "some guy" do my wax. I really felt like I was in the hands of a professional who knows and cares about what he does, which made the fact that the professional happened to be male feel like just an afterthought. read more

I've been going to DDB for years now. First, just for massages and facials. Michaela is so awesome to see. She's a real person who really cares about her business, you are not just a ticket to push out the door. When I inquired about waxing, I told her about my horror story of the one and only time I'd been waxed before. She insisted that it shouldn't be that painful and if I wanted to try again she would go slow. Well, being the huge baby I am (fact: redheads have lower pain tolerance) it took me four visits until I was completely done but I AM SO HAPPY I DID IT. I have seen him for the past three years and plan a trip to Portland expressly for his massages (oh and Duck Fat fries and a Mt Desert ice cream!). He knows his stuff and remembers my body's quirks year after year. I try to see him at least twice each trip -- he's just that good. And he's a super sweet guy.
