I completed the open water certification with them this weekend and had a great experience! I signed up without a buddy and lacked previous knowledge as well as experience (I've never done discover scuba or anything like that). I asked tons of silly questions and received respectful/practical answers. Absolutely everyone working in the shop were helpful, professional and had the best energy to be around! They were all friendly and knowledgeable. I was very impressed with my instructor, Emily, she answered all our questions and was attentive towards each student's needs. She taught us an additional skill in order to prepare us for equipment malfunctioning which was great. No one was left behind, instructions were clear, and the process was fun! Loved it! read more

My SO and I got Open Water certified here and we loved it! We felt safe and informed, and the process was efficient but thorough. They go over all the required skills checks and have you keep performing skills until you show mastery, which is really important for safety purposes on real dives! Denise was super understanding when my ears wouldn't pop and helped my SO and I refine our technique on out-of-air simulations. Denise also credited me the fins that I had bought with their starter package to my upgrade to the steel coil DiveRite fins! Jim took some really awesome pictures to document our dives, and our instructor Buzz, was so patient and kind. They also have about every certification known to man and can teach you whatever you want to know. They are also SAFE divers. They will not push, encourage, or even allow you to go beyond your limits. Wow! After reading stellar reviews online, I went and checked out Dayo in person and they were every bit as advertised. However, I didn't know how awesome they were until I signed up and got certified. My wife and I just finished our open water certification today and couldn't be more happy. Denise & TJ are fantastic as owners and our instructor Bob was great. I had the chance to see and hear instructors from other shops throughout some of our public dives and I have to say Bob was WAY better. He didn't yell at anyone nor did he seem apathetic at all. The other places seemed to just try pushing out certifications, whereas DAYO seems to push out qualified dive family. They're all very knowledgeable and more than willing to share that knowledge without talking down to you for not knowing. I'd totally recommend them for anything scuba related. I cannot say enough good things about Dayo Scuba. Would totally disagree with the negative reviews. Dayo has been our dive shop for a few years now - and I should have written this review years ago. We have completed our Open Water, Nitrox and Advanced Open Water certifications with them. TJ and Tyler have always been straightforward, honest and generous with us. Their knowledge about not only diving, but also equipment is invaluable. The standout at Dayo, however, is Denise. I wish that every new and/or experienced diver could train with her. She has always been VERY honest with us, friendly and very patient, but that's not what makes her, in our opinion, an incredible dive instructor. Her commitment to the safety of every student and every diver in her care, experienced or not, is second to none. My wife is extremely cautious and after a few "situations" diving in Mexico, it only makes us appreciate her more. This trait has been extremely evident on every dive we have been on with her. We are not financially interested or have a family member working at Dayo, which some might think after reading a glowing review like this. In fact, we live in Tampa and have many other dive shop options open to us between Tampa and Orlando. The fact that a reviewer would refer to anyone in this dive shop as dishonest or rude is absolutely the exact opposite of what we have experienced. In fact, we paid for Advanced training in full and because of work and other circumstances were unable to start it until almost a year later. Never once did we have a fear they'd "rip us off" or lie to us - and they never have. And every email or text we've ever sent has been responded to within an acceptable amount of time - especially for a small dive shop. My husband and I bought are scuba classes a few years ago and probably took the longest out of any students to return and actually do the classes-due to various family issues. When we decided to finally start our class we really did have a great time. The staff was very funny and accommodating, especially Denise and Tom. I'm a novice when it comes to SCUBA and they helped outfit me for my first trip. I'm a big guy (6'7") and needed a wetsuit among other accoutrements on short notice and they hooked it up I suspect one of the owners (I think he's an owner, he went by two initials but I forget his name) is a burn out. I just completed my initial open water dive training and I must say the entire operation is nearly perfect. The staff from TJ, Carol, and Denise are professionals. Their dive shop isn't a fancy retail store, their classroom isn't high tech, but it gets the job done. It's a reflection of their main task and that is to give people the proper training to become safe and proficient divers. They make you work hard and earn the certification - they are not going to just give it away and that is a great reflection on their business ethic. I lost my wedding ring in the lake behind our house in about 6 feet of water, with thick vegetation. My ring is black/ ceramic so thought for sure it was gone. With only a few minutes of air left & in zero visibility conditions Tim Riley found it. I can't say thanks enough for his efforts & professionalism. Owner/Operator was dishonest, rude, wasted our valuable vacation time cancelling dives on two of the five days we were on vacation by simply not showing up then lying about it to cover it up! This company does not treat out of state divers with any degree of respect and in fact has employees who will also flat out lie for them. This is an extremely unsafe business practice in a sport that requires utmost safety of its customers. They will not honor requests to fulfill referrals to complete to simple dives to earn a certification because they are either too lazy to do so or too rude to care. Take your money elsewhere but more importantly, keep yourself safe by using a shop with an instructor who practices basic morals and ethics. read more

First off I give Dayo 5 stars because they do so much right. Does that mean they are perfect, no, but everyone can improve. Dayo is a full service dive facility. The instruction you get us top notch, and ranges from recreational to technical/cave and public safety. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. If you are interested in equipment purchase you can't beat their prices. The owner TJ is an expert and genuinely wants his students to learn the right way in the limited time he has with his students, but he can come off as abrasive as his since of humor is on the sarcastic side. If you have thin skin or are full of your self maybe you should stick with a resort dive center that will stroke your ego and certify you whether you are qualified or not. read more

My husband and grandson started their scuba training this past summer but couldn't get the open water certification dives in before the grandson had to return to PA. We all got together for a week in Orlando - and Dayo Scuba helped us get the scuba cert process completed. Choose Dayo Scuba for all your scuba needs! I signed up for an open water certification course before I went on my honeymoon and I am so glad I went with them. Everyone on their team was very friendly and knowledgeable from the first phone call all the way to the last day of my course. They were also very accommodating letting me split up the class into two weeks due to my crazy schedule. Bob was my instructor and he is a true drive master. He was very attentive to all his students and patient. I truly felt prepared after my class to go scuba diving in Australia. They offer tons of deals with the course including a package to buy your own fins, goggles, and boots. Or you can choose to rent then at any time can use that rental fee towards your own gear. Not only that after the course you get a free day of diving. They have trips going on all the time and I will be back to dive with them on the blue springs adventure. Some people in the class weren't expecting that you would have to drive to the dive sites. So just keep in mind you live in Orlando and will have to drive to get to open water sites. Again they were very accommodating and even drove people there that were visiting with out a car...but I would set up transportation a head of time. read more

We recently registered for the Dayo PADI course and unfortunately drew TJ (Owner) and his wife as our instructors. The entire experience from start to finish was miserable. There were 9 of us that initially signed up together which included 5 teenage kids. TJ was condescending and negative the entire 3 days and I cannot recall him ever saying a positive thing to anyone including the kids. The equipment we rented from Dayo was old, worn out, and did not work properly. We had numerous problems with various pieces of the dive gear during the 3 day course. I must say that other than TJ and his wife the other instructors I spoke with seemed to be very nice and knowledgeable. If you do choose to take a chance and sign up for a certification class there I would check to see who the instructor is going to be and if it is Tom (TJ) I would look else where. read more

The training is worthwhile depending on who you get, but the customer service is down right horrific. Don't think you'll ever be able to contact the owner/operator and get a timely or honest response. They continually lie and made up excuses. Denise (owner/operator) has no business running a business. I really don't think she has any idea what she is doing, and then she lies to make up for her own mistakes. I actually laughed at one point when she tried to explain herself. It was that ridiculous.
