We reserved 2 single kayaks for a morning paddle. We arrived early and they let us on our way. It was beautiful! We were some of the first people out, and the paddle upstream was fun and relaxing. Coming back downstream, the barrage of other users had begun, and you could tell it was many of their first time paddling as they had 0 control. We were almost constantly being rammed into the bank (even when stopped and holding ourselves out of the way), and had to remain extremely vigilant until getting back to the launch area. We continued downstream--and the downstream area of Wekiwa Park was completely different and a lot less occupied. We saw lots of wildlife and it was just the right length. Returning and leaving was just as easy. Just exercise patience as the Emerald Cut area is tight and full of first timers. It's great to see people trying new things, though!

We did a kayak trip and rented from Kings landing. This was an extremely beautiful canal in Weikiwa springs state park. We kayaked up stream the entire way and it took far longer than I expected likely due to the flow and tiredness after flying. Kings landing was a bit overpriced for the rentals although i am sure this is in part due to location. I would recommend they update their paddles or fix them so the hand pads are there or the black markers are correct for placement. Additionally the kayak had a weird positioned handle that kept scraping me.

For my first time here I was just blown away by the stream, but before we get to that let's focus on the launching area that is Kings landing. You will need to make a reservation before you can launch here. They do take walk-ins but it does fill up rather quickly. So I highly recommend making reservations. Parking is very limited and if you don't get there early enough or at the right time you'll be walking a bit. You are able to unload your gear and the u-shaped unloading area where you can also inflate your paddle boards if you need to. But you will have to park outside of the launching area itself. Once you arrive, check in for your designated time and they will provide you wristbands. The launching area can get crowded so be ready for that. We had our own paddle boards which made it more efficient to launch. Along the stream, you'll see raccoons bugs. Of course. Some people said they saw alligators out in the murkier water. For my first trip we went upstream and the canopy was just breathtaking. You are in a totally new environment and you forget that you are in the middle of Florida while paddling upstream. As you make your way up the stream, you'll find little spots to relax and take a break. The water is so shallow that you could literally get out and just walk the whole thing if you wanted to. The water is also so clear and you can see fishes and the water. The launching area also has a concession stand if you want to buy food or drinks. It's got a little shaded area in the middle of the launching or the landing area where you can unload if you have people just want to hang out. It also has lockers for those who want to lock up their things before they paddle out. And porta potties for those who need to relieve themselves before or after their adventures. I definitely recommend this for anyone who wants to paddle board kayak and escape the city for a couple hours.

Kayaking on the Emerald Cut is an experience of a life time! The water was clear, warm, and shallow enough for all ages! Our kids had a blast because of our terrific tour guide, Nigel. He was super nice, and very knowledgable about the area. He knew the history, the good spots play and taking photos. He showed us all kinds of fishes, turtles, birds and 2 alligators were hidden under bushes. What an amazing experience for the whole family!

Look how clear the water is

This place is such a hidden gem! The water is crystal clear and so peaceful, perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding. We did the $10 bring your own option in their website. It was such a fun and relaxing day. The water was calm, we stopped often for photos and snacks and it feels like we had the whole place to ourselves since we went on a weekday. Parking was super close to the canal, so launching was really easy. The only thing to note is that the restroom is just a porta polly, but thats minor compared to overall experience. I'll definitely recommend this to my friends whose visiting from out of state. Can't wait to be back and bring my family.

Fantastic place. I came with my son and grandson. We brought one kayak and rented a double. We took the Emerald Cut route which is something to behold. Special thanks to staff member Giselle who made it all possible despite the fact we were "walk-ins" and spots were very limited. She was fantastic!

King's Landing is as beautiful as the pictures suggest! I'm so glad we made time for this on our Florida trip! It was absolutely breathtaking and such a fun experience. There are multiple spots on the clear aide to get out and swim! On the dark water side we did see two gators so I wouldn't suggest swimming there. We went on a holiday and it was very busy, sometimes making it difficult to navigate multiple kayaks on the river. The kayaks were in ok shape. If I were to go again, I'd want to bring my own equipment.

This is King's Landing, a spring where the water is crystal clear and flowing! My co-worker and I spend five hours in this beautiful Florida gem! I had an amazing day surrounded by nature and wildlife‍ from birds to an otter to baby gators My favorite encounter was with Rocket, a friendly raccoon loved by everyone! And I'm very thankful, grateful, and blessed that I wasn't/ we weren't bitten by an alligator. A huge thanks to my co-worker Stephannie for inviting me, for bringing the paddle boards and for such a fantastic experience!‍‍

    Reminder: don't touch wildlife
    Michelle B.

Absolutely stunning place to kayak incredible tour guide, but the most important thing is our tour guide ended up saving some girls along the river who were holding a raccoon that was dying from rabies. As a friendly reminder don't touch wildlife it can kill you and great job Kim for saving these ladies!

Ask the Community - King's Landing

How big are the fish here?

I've been told some of them weigh 4 or 5 lbs, I know some of the ones on can see thru the crystal clear water are at least 12 inches but a lot are 8 or 9 inches minimum.

Can I keep the fish I catch?

Sorry but it is only catch and release here.

Do you have people lined up on weekdays too?

This time of year sometimes a small one but nothing like weekends.

    Do they have RV parking?

Tent camping only and parking is street side so get there early so there's room for it.

I don't swim, would you recommend since the water is very shallow?

Even if you don't get in the water it is so beautiful to just sit and enjoy from a kayak. If you are not a good swimmer you want a kayak not a canoe. Kayaks are more stable.

So I was about ready to book a trip until the alligator pics. Is this appropriate for small children under the age of 8?

Yes, we recommend ages 2 and up. This is a great way to see the real Florida.

    Are dogs allowed here?

    dogs = gator food

Is it safe to launch an inflatable kayak?

Yes, you can launch there safely. If you go left at the end of the canal, it's very wide. If you're skilled that the more scenic, narrow route and turn right (more debris though).

My husband already has a kayak, so I just rented a single kayak for a half day, 3 hrs (they also have two person kayaks and a full day option). When I called Joe from Peace of Mind informed me that he was already at Dinky Dock (my preferred put-in location) and he was able to accommodate a rental with very short notice I (I think I gave him 45 minutes). I also appreciated that we could pay with a credit card at the rental location. Even though it wasn't part of a formal tour, I felt so well taken care of. Immediately upon arrive Joe greeted me by name and the equipment (kayak, life vest, paddle) was ready to go. I was provided with a laminated map of the lakes and the canals, a ziplock bag for my phone, and some tips about navigating the area. Joe even helped carry my husband's kayak so we could launch at the same time, even though he was not renting from them. When we returned to the beach after a wonderful couple hours on the lakes, Joe met us on the beach immediately. Overall excellent service- the rental process couldn't have been smoother. The equipment was no-frills but well maintained. Dinky dock is a perfect starting spot for a self-guided tour of the MUST SEE Winter Park Chain of Lakes.

Christina was out tour guide and she was great. She pointed out things along the way. Helped with pictures. And even recommended other things to do in the area after the tour. Let's start by saying that you should make sure you are scheduling for the right location as sending someone the direct link may still send them to a different location, as with our experience. I sent my beautiful partner the link to Rock Springs (Rock springs was literally in the URL), but it sent her to Silver Springs. We didn't notice until the trip was booked (less than 10 minutes later) and tried to contact the office to see if we can be transferred over to Rock Springs or if they could cancel the booking since it was literally minutes ago. Unfortunately, we didn't think we would need the trip protection add-on for something like this, but we were told we can only reschedule at the same location because we didn't purchase it... The funny thing is that the Rock Springs option didn't even show up for her when she was trying to rebook, but it did show up for me. Anyways, it's just something I highly suggest you pay attention to. Unpleasant booking issue aside, since we did have to book and pay again for this trip, the tour was pretty good. Our guide was Meagan, who was great. She was also accompanied by a guide who was transferring over to this location who was also helpful. First off, let me say if you have never done a two person tandem kayak before, it can be a little difficult to get in sync and start making progress. We did however get into the groove after the first stop upstream, and after that, the trip was fun and full of sights. The paddling up stream is a bit of a work out, so be prepared for that. You will stop at multiple scenic spots to snap some pictures on the way. I guess we were lucky to take the last tour of the day, as there wasn't a ridiculous amount of people going either way. Once you get to the end of the upstream paddle, the ride back is a breeze. You just have to figure out how to steer and to back paddle to slow down. You can get some really good pictures and take in the scenic views during this time since you don't need to paddle against the current. Our guide took some nice pictures and videos of us and provided them to us at the end of our trip. The initial part of the trip can be difficult, but if you work through it and figure things out, the tour was enjoyable.

Most providers in the area simply allow you to cancel with far enough notice before the tour, usually a couple days. This provider bizarrely requires you purchase trip protection for 10% of your total order. On top of that, this "protection" doesn't even reimburse the full amount, it will only give you your ticket price back and a little more, it does not reimburse fees or the cost of the protection.
