First Stay:
* Called mid-July 2015 and made six-day reservations for three older motorcyclists attending John C. Campbell Folk School
* Desk confirmed reservations were for three nearby, first floor, non-smoking rooms
* Arrived at hotel city late-August 2015 and called to confirm reservations
* Desk confirmed the reservations and the three first floor rooms
* Arrived ~three hours later to be put in second floor rooms scattered all over the hotel.
* One room had ladybugs on the bed and spiders hanging from the ceiling
* Another room had a roach on the bed
* All three rooms stunk of attempts to use chemicals to get the tobacco smell out
* Next day after complaints to management we were moved to scattered first floor rooms
* One room's door had a large crack at the bottom large enough for small rodents or snakes to enter
* At checkout desk was unable to figure out how to charge each of us individually so all charges remained on my card and friends had to write me checks for the week of the stay
Second stay, September 2015:
* Decided to give them a second chance
* Arrived at hotel with no reservation
* Greeted warmly as a returning customer
* Received a returning customer rate
* Got a first floor room, #111
Third stay:
* Called late-September 2015 and made six-day reservation for myself attending John C. Campbell Folk School
* Desk confirmed reservation was for a first floor, non-smoking room, #111
* Arrived at hotel city late-October 2015
* I asked why the rate was $100 higher than the August stay
* General manager provided all kinds of excuses about fall leaves, bookings, etc. and wild claims about other hotels charging well over $100 a night
* General manager suddenly/finally/out of the blue discovers there is a Folk School discount that saves me half of the August/October disparity; still over charged however
* Desk then gives me keys to second floor room
* I then have to argue over the reservation for a first floor room
* They put me in the room with the big crack at the bottom of the door
* Second day, housekeeping removes the slip of paper they provide with the WiFi password
* I call desk, desk is a jerk and finally hangs up on me, makes me get dressed and walk to the desk to get the password
* On the way to room I purchased two candy bars and placed them in the refrigerator
* Arrive at room next day; only one candy bar remains
* ~Fifth morning I am joined in the shower by large spider on the curtain
* On departure same desk password jerk is on duty, I ask for receipt, he claims I should have received that when I checked in, not happy to print one out for me (63 years of staying at hotels I've never gotten a detailed receipt at check-in)
I wrote Wyndham properties and sent the above detail. Was contacted by same general manager as noted above with all kinds of apologies and "will take care of this and that" and "we'll do better next time" statements.
Fourth (Attempted) Stay:
* Back in Murphy looking at properties.
* Was late so decided to give Day's Inn another chance.
* No luck!
* Desk clerk wanted $90 a night. January 2nd, 7pm, 5 cars in the lot.
* Wasn't interested in offering any returning guest discount, AAA or anything. Highest rate I've paid there before was $79.
* Best Western up the street was $94; cleaner, nicer rooms & safer neighborhood.
