Day's is the only general store in Belgrade Lakes, so if you're staying in the area - this is it. They do have lots of options for food, fudge, groceries, wine, beer, etc. The prices are much higher than driving into Augusta, so if you're coming in from that area - make your list ahead of time and go to Shaws, but if you just need to grab a quick bite and don't want to make the long trek into town than it's an option for sure - just be prepared to pay a bit more. It can get very crowded in the tiny walkways as well during peak hours. The staff is friendly and try their best to handle the large crowds. They have a great back area on the lawn with tables, chairs, benches to enjoy your lunch and look out onto the lake. You can even come by boat and pull up to a dock. We come once a year and row across the lake to get ice cream. The ice cream is really great!! And the wild blueberry is my favorite! They also have live music in the evenings sometimes to encourage community fun.

If your vacationing in the Belgrade Lakes area this is the go-to place for provisions. Beer, liquor, lobster, beef, groceries, fresh baked goods, and local products from the local farms that are sold at the farmer's market (Lamb sausage and York Hill Farm goat cheese). Super friendly staff. Fresh baked bread, pastries and donuts every day. The local coffee shop closed, so make sure to take advantage of there Green Mountain coffee bar when you grab a donut. Make sure to stop by early before they sell out each day. My brother had one of there fresh baked pizza's and raved about it. Great little gift area as well. I picked up some maple syrup and jam for gifts.

    Days they even have Gas!

Does Days has a monopoly on Belgrade, Yes! Is it a bad thing? No. Are the prices jacked up? A little (baking soda & worms = 8$) But not so much and if you go to Days your in Belgrade Maine and Days general store is your best option. It has a little bit of everything. Nan bread, gourmet cheese, booze, fishing tackle, hinting licensees, coffemilk, Maine touristy things and ICE CREAM you know ALL the essentials. Oh and hand made bacon dog treats my puppy approves! Good coffee and breakfast in the morning. Decent lunch options. Seriously if you stop in for breakfast you will see everyone you know because where else would they go? Days tries to accommodate the many needs of tourist with great service truly a 5 star general store.

Hands down the most phenomenal butcher shop in the area. Well, it may be the only one in the area…read moreunless you head east for several miles then you may come across a local butcher shop in the Manchester area. On 6/10/23, they held an open house to showcase their meats and options available to the general public. They are a butcher shop specializing in cow, pig, lamb and chicken, but they offer many other things in their freezers. The place is small, so go early when they open as you'll get first pick of the freshest meat in the refrigerator on the right side. Those are meats that were cut within the last 24 hours, vacuum sealed and placed directly into the fridge. Next to that fridge is their selection of beer jerky. Next to the meat fridge is also one containing pasta salads, homemade cretons and other sides you would typically add to your BBQ. On the left side is where you'll find the majority of their products in the freezer section. You can get anything from pork belly, bacon, fried clam strips, fish, chicken, lamb, chicken hearts, ribeyes, ground sirloin and SO much more. I didn't even scratch the surface with that list. My wife and I purchased a 1.5lb sirloin steak, 1lb of fresh lobster meat, a pound of bacon, one 0.94lb ribeye steak, a decent size ham steak, and fried clam strips (frozen). Price wise I feel they are very competitive, if not better, than local grocery stores who cut their meats on site or get them pre-cut and delivered. The quality of the sirloin was incredible. I cooked it to a perfect medium and the fat around the edges melted like butter and it was one of the most tender piece of meats my wife has ever had. Her words, not mine. She is a tough one to impress when it comes so steaks. Sorry to those local corporate grocery stores and Walmart because we are getting all our meats from here on out at Castonguay meats. The original owner and creator was on hand during the open house to welcome us. I am willing to travel to this place just to get my meats moving forward for all future BBQs.

If you want to be pleasantly surprised, pull over and stop at Castonguay Meats. They have basically…read moreevery type of meat under the sun, and the best Barbecue Sauce I've had in Maine yet. Everything I've been able to try from Castonguay has been top tier! They also slaughter beef, pork, and lamb, and make Meat Package deals. Not like I've had to do any of that but maybe someday.
