One of the local beaches I grew up with. It gets extremely crowded any time of year. Parking has always been a nightmare every time I've visit. I live in the Tampa Bay Area and I have travelled everywhere in FL and a good portion of this country's beaches and this is one of the worst for sure. Now there were some cool things here that I havent seen or havent seen much of at any other beaches. And that is why they got at least 3 stars. Driving on the beach itself is definitely pretty cool. However it does cost $30. There were Food trucks actually on the beach which was also nice. They had a Coldstone Creamery ice cream truck that was spectacular. The main boardwalk itself was a nice walk. "The Roof" restaurant had good food and drinks. Great view. Now you have to be careful walking down the boardwalk and beach as there is alot of and I mean alot of homeless and druggies. Zero police presence. I myself and my family can defend ourselves very well so that wouldnt be a problem for us. The Carnival area that use to be there is gone now. There are some things that survived the hurricane or rebuilt like the pizza shops and arcade. Overall it is the type of beach to experience once but not go back to. read more

The beach was fun and there are some boardwalk items (though I wish it was more like the Jersey boardwalk, which is what I was expecting). The sand is light colored and the waves were pretty calm. There were a ton of people around, but it didn't feel too crowded. There is hourly parking available everywhere and it's like a dollar an hour only. Food and shops are nearby. There were a lot of homeless people around, way more than I anticipated, but they kept to themselves. There is a park with a splash pad and bathrooms as well. read more

My go to beach, being a FL resident. Sadly, stopped going after getting a caught in a current and being pushed too far out and almost drowning because the flag colors are off. However, despite I still think if you read the warnings properly and ask the nearest lifeguard, it's a great place for your family. read more

If you like the beach then Daytona is a solid option. You can drive on the beach, but most of the times I've been, it's 4WD only due to the conditions of the beach. There are lots of places to eat along the beach and miles of options on where to actually set up shop. There is a cost to drive/park on the beach, or you can get a yearly pass. If you DO drive on the beach, it's kinda fun and when you park, you can make multiple trips to bring all you junk to your stake-in-the-ground location. Parking and overloading yourself with coolers, chairs, towels, blankets, metal detectors, footballs, slam-ball, badminton rackets, shuttlecocks, boom boxes, Mr. Microphones, kegs, 23 and me test kits, and waterproof massagers. If you park on the beach, you can get them easily as needed. And with Mr. Microphone, you can say to the items in your vehicle, "We'll be back to pick you up later!" (Google the commercial) since your vehicle is 50 feet away instead of a half a mile. read more

We love coming here. Park by the arcade for $1/hr, occasionally gaze at the passersby walking on the beautiful pier, while listening to waves crashing in the distance while the ocean breeze keeps us comfy. Anyone who remembers Daytona will tell you that the city council has not done a good job with planning... Ormond to the North and New Smyrna to the south are much nicer... Daytona thinks it can nickel and dime visitors to death. All this does is drive them away. We rarely visit Daytona anymore. We now patronize other more friendly areas.... I do love the differences on the east and west coasts of the state... loud crashing of the waves, being able to drive on the beach on the east coast but then we have the powder sand and amazing sunsets. It's been years since I was last here, but it's still as beautiful as I remember. The beach is still open to the public, life guards are posted every so many yards at their towers, and the beach patrol is out in full force driving down the beach monitoring, and keeping the beach safe. I love being here when the beach is filled with families playing in the water, seashell hunting, or just on the sand building sand castles with their kids. We wanted to go to a beach that was close to us and looked beautiful. We had originally decided on Tampa but it was more out of our way than we thought. Daytona beach was within and hour so we decided to come here not knowing what to expect. I didn't realize that this Daytona beach was the one commected to the Daytona International Speedway! That was really cool passing by to get to our beach location. The beach itself was very beautiful, we sat under the bridge to get some shade, though they do offer rentals of beach chairs and umbrella to keep the sun at bay. The beach itself was amazing in that i could go into the water pretty far before it reached my waist(considering that I am a tiny human that was pretty surprising) It did start to rain a few hours later but the lifeguards made sure to get everyone out of the water for safety. Going towards the boardwalk are places where you can eat and wash/clean of the sand. read more

We used to come here a lot for family trips when I was growing up. I have fond memories of various hotel pools and beach days. We did a family get together trip there in June, 2019 and - well, I'm not sure if Daytona has gone significantly downhill or if my idea of a vacation has just changed, but it wasn't my ideal beach vacation spot. The beach itself is OK. Yes, you can still drive on it. I don't understand why you would WANT to... but that's a thing that happens. A lot of the beachside strip area looks really run down. The boardwalk is not worth more than an evening stroll - if you can find a place to park that doesn't cost $15 (not kidding). The thing I disliked the most - look, it gets HOT and humid here and if you're not someone that wants to bake on the beach during the miserable afternoon heat, there is just not that much else to do. There is one museum and of course the Speedway. But really, that is about it. I struggled to find anything at all to do that didn't involve heat stroke. Daytona is probably best for folks that really truly only want beaches and pools. If you're someone like me - that loves active vacations full of cultural/historical/unique things and great restaurants... this is not your beach. read more

Daytona beach rocks when they have an event going on. Bike week, Race week, Spring break, Jeep week, Biketoberfest etc. We are here for just about every bike event. The rest of the time it is a nice beach destination, and unique where they allow cars to drive and park on the beach. I have been coming here for many years and lots of things are getting upgraded. There are lots of nice places to eat these days. Beach street is developing nicely. There are still some sketchy parts as well. Lots of history here with the start of racing on the beach to the Daytona 500, one of the world's most famous races. read more

I took a trip to the beach in the middle of the week before memorial day weekend officially kicked off. Parking on the beach was $20, and they are enforcing cars to park further away from each other by adding extra parking poles signifying the distance. Lifeguards were very alert as well on making sure people weren't to close to one another, and I was happy to see vendors out to sell golf carts, 4 wheeler's, and snow cones to the crowds. If you want to make your way to the pier, you can still find a closer parking, and still have access to more activities. I'm happy to have the beached open again. read more

Incredible. Not a single seashell, seaweed, or rock on the beach that you have to worry about stepping on as you're walking on the sand. You can pay for a pass to drive your car onto the sand, not sure how else you would find parking as there's no public parking at all on the long stretch unless you're staying at one of the hotels along the beach. Daytona Beach is intensely popular with out of state visitors. It's popularity hits an all time high each year with spring breakers and NASCAR fans. The Daytona International Speedway has many events throughout the year and posts their calendar online. Spring Break fills up the towns hotels, bars and restaurants for a couple of months each year. In addition to the famous beach and races you can also visit Lighthouse Point Park, Ponce de Leon Lighthouse & Museum, Marine Science Center and much more. Daytona Beach is one of the few beaches that you can still drive a car on making it somewhat dangerous. It has a 16 mile stretch of road and during peak hours the flow of cars stays constant. I loved the warm water. It was also very pretty sand. But there is nowhere to go to the bathroom or change. There is a bathhouse but we walked in and then right back out. It was horrible! It looked like people took paper towels, toilet paper, and toilet seat covers to dry themselves off. The gift shops didn't have much we were interested in and most everything had vulgar language everywhere on t-shirts and other souvenirs. The beach rentals al close at 5pm so if you get there at 3pm, they will not give you chairs or umbrellas. read more

This was the first time I've been to Daytona Beach with my family. We arrived and it was a little dark and cloudy on the other side of the beach. I went down the beach to rent chairs and they asked if I were going to stick around, I said we are sticking here. 20 minutes go by and it begins to down pour. The funny thing is earlier that day it was extremely too hot in Orlando, and this area it was extremely cold with rain coming down. I never had the opportunity to go into the beach due to the weather. It was different because you can drive your vehicle on the beach. I wasn't a fan of that. Woo!! Yeah we had a great time here. The beach is extensive and there's a lot to do. You've got food trucks nearby and white sand. When we were there, it didn't feel crowded either. You can easily spend the morning and afternoon here. If you get tired of swimming, there are many shops and restaurants nearby. So grab a t-shirt or an ice-cream! Why not? Not many beaches in Florida allow you to drive on the beach but due to the hard compacted texture of their sand, this beach allows cars to enter at a daily rate of $20 per car. If you are a frequent visitor, then the price for unlimited access is $100 annually which comes in handy if you're a frequent visitor to this beach or any beach in Volusia County. The main strip is lined with the usual motels and beach bars selling touristy items in usually bright colors. There's no shortage of alcohol in this area and that's what makes it a special part of the many beaches in Florida. I came here in the month of December and it was around 50F which it was too cold to properly enjoy the beach, the sand, and its water. However, I will come back to this place when it is warmer in the future. The beach seems huge and its boardwalk is long. Street parking is very hard to find around because there is probably little to nonexistant. Therefore, paying $10 for parking in the beach is definitely worth it. read more

My in-laws insisted on a detour to the beach on our way to Disney. After the long ride my Husband and I was not thrilled about this as we just wanted to get to our resort and rest. The boys had a great time running in and out of the waves and staring at 20 something dang near butt naked bottoms. And let me tell you they was all eye level to my 5 year old. NOT a beach to take the small kids to so hopefully my in-laws will think twice about that again LOL. Very populated beach and a little crowded for us if we had been there for a beach day. I had never been to the city of Daytona Beach before and I didn't know what to expect. I read a lot of reviews online about DB and I was somewhat nervous to visit. I expected to see throngs of homeless, like in my old neighborhood (Venice Beach, CA), but it wasn't that bad. Your perspective will obviously change depending on where you come from in the country. Use common sense, pay attention to your surroundings and I imagine you will be ok. Visiting the city felt like time traveling back to 1989, I highly doubt much has changed since then. The city does have a slight seedy vibe to it and some of the shops do sell things like confederate flag bikinis. I definitely felt like I was in the south, I don't pick up that vibe in my new home of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Back to the beach, I really did appreciate the hard sand, it was fabulous for taking a long walk on. It's neat to see the cars going along on the beach. Our hotel was a bit north of the pier & boardwalk, but we visited both of these attractions. The boardwalk is a bit underwhelming, I expected it to be bigger and have more shops. I do realize a hurricane just came through, but there were many stairways and ramps from the boardwalk to the beach which were in various states of deterioration. I wish the city had roped them off better, as we ended up on one by mistake (we were fine). The pier is a great spot to grab a bite to eat or have an adult beverage. Overall, a good trip back in time to Daytona Beach. read more

$32 to drive on the beach you must be joking! They tried charging me $32 to drive 2 blocks on the beach!! The rest of the beach was closed to driving!! Attendant didn't tell me someone walking off the beach warned me. Nothing has been repaired on the damaged resorts! And now they want $20 to park in a lot! Not only will you not get my money to drive or park. I will not spend a $1 in volusia county. I will go to the national sea shore and bring everything I need with me. No gas,no food and no shopping! While your beach communities decline on EVERY level you want to charge and force people away! Thank God my business is in Orlando! Businesses owners and residents of Volusia county you allowed this! Enjoy your steady decline in revenue and property values lol. The homeless and drug users along A1A have taken over its not safe! One of the famous beach in US. It has rich history that car can be drive on the beach since the seawater compact a section of the beach sand that make it drivable. People has come here for vacation and the love of ocean. Many year ago beach car racing was occurred and attracted a lot of people. Now is the main attraction for the spring breaker. Got to be here at least for one spring break. The beach area offer the boardwalk with shop. Further south, the beach is less crowded. Sometime it has pier with restaurant. At the southern most is the Ponce Inlet. This is the surfing spot due to large wave. I was fortunately see a live yellow crab on the beach. This creature is very cute. Bird is everywhere. But this crab stand out. The wave is awesome. It is very clear water on the day we have visit. You can body surf this wave. We love the wave impact to our back and pushes us. Where there is wave, rip tide also happen. Watch yourself. read more

You probably heard about Daytona beach from someone. But let me start with saying that Daytona beach had died out and those crazy beach party and festival days are over. The biggest thing in town is bikefest. And if you are not into bikes , then you will surely be disappointed. The beach allows you to park your car right on a sand and go for a swim. However, Sand is flat, ocean currents change very often and can be dangerous. Winds are heavy ( but thats normal since it is ocean waters!!!) You will see a lot of homeless people sleeping on the beach. Restaurant choice is very poor, many have closed in last 10 years. So if I were you, I would not rent a condo on the beach for my vacation....since most likely you will drive to orlando for evening attractions.... read more
