I was expecting the event to be a little more cute as far as the Valentine's Day theme, but unfortunately that was not the case. I did like my Valentine's Day glasses that Yelp gave us There were some cool vendors at the event, but there was a particular vendor that I wasn't too thrilled about that took forever to set up for their food. I was actually interested in visiting them, but they were STILL setting up at 2:30/3pm, so I decided to go to other vendors to see what goods they offered. I bought a really cool necklace from one vendor and she and her colleague were really kind. Amazing brewery! Have had many of their beers off site and some on site way back in January 2020. Would love to go back at some point. They had Friday night specials that were a great deal. It is not near a Metro but on bus lines that are easy to reach. The location is in the back of a post office yard so a bit hard to find but once you are in the fun begins. Not just a brewery, also an event space. I have been just to pick up a case of beer and to two very different events. One event was an outdoor rock concert, using the loading dock as a stage and picnic tables for seating. Family friendly. The other was DC Braulesque for Halloween - crazy fun. A very accepting space. Gender free restrooms and accessibility accommodations made. Also - I love their new NA beer, other non-alcoholic options available and often a food truck or taco vendor. read more

Loved this brewery in DC during a visit at end of May 2022. It is located on the very busy Bladensburg Road but the entrance is around back. The outdoor seating is comfortable and we loved the games available - especially the homemade Jenga. The brewery's reputation of having high-quality beer is well deserved. I enjoyed a flight of the darker styles and my favorite was by far the Legislator, a Bock - Doppelbock that had lots of deep flavor. read more

It wouldn't be a trip for us if we didn't get in at least one brewery. On our way up to Baltimore we stopped at the DC Brau brewery that Ben was told to check out. Most were not located close to our hotel so when we had a car for the day, that is when you had to get it in. The brewery is located within the strip mall and is located in the back. You pull in and the buildings have a small separation that allows for vehicles to drive back so could be missed if not looking for the Brewery signage out front. It kinda made me laugh that when walking up to the door the beer vacs are fenced in with barbed wire. Can't say that I have seen that before in my travels but then again, not knowing the area, it may be needed. Made for a good laugh though. Inside the staff was willing to answer any questions and offered samples of their beers. I always love that as when we are out of town visiting a new brewery, being stuck with an option that you may not end up liking is the worst. It's not as simple as trying something else the next time you're there. They do have an outside seating area but the day we visited it was raining so we sat inside while looking around the place at their artwork. They also have to go beers which Ben got a 12 pack. I like that they have different amounts for purpose and even variety packs. Very cool spot- it's in the backside of the storefront businesses, and parking is kinda a mess. I got the grapefruit slush, and it immediately made me feel something (it's strong!). We sat inside and it got really warm, so we went outside and it was much cooler. I had been wanting to check it out for months from following their Instagram, and it was pretty cool. I should also say we went during the ASANA Awards Ceremony, so they shut the whole place down for us. The staff was very gracious and generous to us. read more

A popular brewery. DC Brau has products all over bars around here. It also has a taproom. Call ahead to make sure they're open. The hours can get weird. Get their beer pretty much anywhere. If you're in a bar they have it. The taproom is good for trying some of the less popular stuff. It's $5 for a pint. There's lots of variety. Get something hoppy. They also have some ones that are smoother. Basically anything is pretty good. Downright Pilsner is easy and light. Also you can get a tour of the brewery. The place is pretty interesting and is in a strange location so you have to know where to look for it. It has some great beers. Lately it's been closed. Been going to DC Brau for 8 years now. It has always been one of my favorite breweries in DC. My personal favorite is their corruption IPA. They have greatly expanded their operation over the years and its been great to see. They have great service and they have added a few games and out door seating to the tasting room. You are also essentially inside the brew house so you can easily see them doing their work. Also, apart of their expansion has been adding non beer options to menu. They have boozy slushys and and ciders. So a little bit for everyone. As far as food goes they have a rotating group of food truck that service the tasting room. DC Brau has been on our list for some time after having (and loving) the Penn Quarter Porter at District Pi and then getting a six pack or two of the same and the Public pale ale from our local Wegmans. My wife and I shared a beer flight of mostly IPAs. Our favorite was the Turbo Boost, a fruit-forward hazy IPA. We both bought full pints after the brewery tour. I also liked the 1857 London Burton Ale (8.7% ABV 123 IBU). My wife thought it was a little too sweet, but I've always liked this lesser used British style of ale. It uses one malt/one hop/one yeast yet produces a complex beer from this simple formula. The ale is clean and smooth feeling in the mouth and has a citrus marmalade like taste with a little bitterness balancing the sweet. We visited DC Brau one cold, wintry Sunday afternoon a couple of weekends ago. We'd been discussing a visit to this craft brewery for a couple of years now. Ever since we experienced their Alpha Domina Mellis III a couple of years ago. Someone left a growler of it for me as a Christmas present from Santa - and to date - no one has ever fessed up as to who got it for me! Maybe it was Santa! DC Brau is about an hour drive from us - and as there have been so many other craft breweries closer to us that had yet to be visited - DC Brau kept getting shuffled down the list. So we finally made it. We ordered two full tasting flights - and found a table in the room directly adjacent to the pouring room. DC Brau's tasting area is very industrial, has an old-school, warehouse vibe to it - and is also somewhat cold inside. I kept my winter coat on - and I noticed my friend Andrew kept his beanie on. We worked our way through the Ales - attempting to go lightest to heaviest/darkest. We started with their Pilsner, then their Belgian Ale, Pale Ale, two IPAs (On The Wings of Armageddon, or OTWOA. The other was The Corruption), and finally ending with their two porters - Penn Quarter porter - served as a standard, CO2-tap pour and a nitro pour. We also got to taste their Barleywine - which was strong and outstanding! Overall, we enjoyed our visit to DC Brau! I ended up at DC Brau for their big annual holiday market this year. I had never been by the brewery before and had little to no idea what to expect. One thing I knew was that DC Brau is definitely one of the most serious producing breweries in the DMV... but I didn't exactly know how big their operation was and man is it big. The holiday party was fantastic by the way. I think because of all of the great connections DC Brau has made, the market was just top notch. It had so many of my favorite vendors including ( but not limited to) Marcella Kriebel, Kuzeh pottery, Painted Palettes, Pratt Standard Syrups (which I just discovered is actually True Syrups just under a new name). Outside there was food trucks which included Captain Cookie & The Milkman, Timber Pizza (with their big mobile pizza oven) and Dangerously Delicious Pies. The brewery is enormous! You could easily and comfortable host hundreds and hundreds of people there. They had I think 5 or 6 bars set up in various locations. One thing I loved was their new alcoholic seltzer. Yes DC Brau is getting into the game with White Claw. I had the passionfruit one first which I thought was quite delicious. Then I had the mango one which was decent, but I enjoyed it nowhere near as much as the Passionfruit one. I definitely would love to vist the brewery to take a tour when there wasn't all of the hullabaloo. One thing I'll say is that I wish they toned the music down a bit, it was quite aggressively loud in the only seating area. They probably could use a few more bathrooms with all of those people in there. And the parking is a tad bit better than nightmarish... all that said. I'd love to come back and plan on it for their next holiday market and hopefully sooner :) read more

Stopped by around 1 on a Saturday bike ride and was surprised it wasn't more crowded! My husband and I ordered beers and sat on a picnic table inside the brewery side. I was pleased with the Hefeweizen I had, so many in this area just aren't very good though I really enjoyed this one! Bonus that there was a food truck right outside that we could get some grub from. We'd done the tour a while back, so we didn't participate, but if you're there when they're offering it it's pretty cool. Bottom line: I prefer DC Brau on tap instead of in a can, so this was a great place to stop on a long bike ride! read more

This was our second stop on the City Brew Tour. No skimping on the samples here. We had the Hefeweizen, sour, nitro porter and scotch ale. I really enjoyed the Hefeweizen. It was super hot so this was a treat. The sour eventually did grow on me. At first, I did not like it but it after the first few sips it definitely improved. I'm not a porter or scotch ale fan but I did try everything. It's another brewery in an industrial space. It kind of kept going and going. read more

DC Brau is possibly the least fancy brewery I've visited in the past several years...and that's a compliment. This place isn't showy because it doesn't have to be - it's all about the beer. Founded in 2011, DC Brau is the first brewery in DC since prohibition, making it an elder statesman among the surge of craft breweries in the area. That said, their production continues to grow by leaps and bounds, and they recently purchased the building next to them for more tank space. The place is hard to find; it's in an industrial area behind a line of stores, and at night you have to be at least a little brave to drive down the alley-ish road between two buildings to get there. They have a sign facing Bladensburg Rd, but it's not lit up so its nearly impossible to see from the road. That said, the parking lot below was well lit. When you get your beer, the no-frills theme continues. Beers are served in plastic cups (!), and the serving 'trays' are cardboard. They literally use black markers to write down which samples you purchased on the cardboard, and set the plastic cups on top of that mark. Unfortunately their current set of beers only had a few that were my preferred style. Fortunately they change up a lot, so presumably next time I'll have better luck. What I tried: Pen Quarter Porter: Not smooth like a Guinness but a little chocolaty. Hefeweizen: Wonderfully cloudy; possibly my favorite or second favorite. Brau Pills (German Pils): Not bad. OTWOA (IPA): Not sure what the name means. But as an IPA, this is not my style. Corruption (West Coast IPA): Little better, but still...IPAs are not my thing. Public American (Pale Ale): Not bad but Pale Ales are my least favorite after IPAs. Citizen Belgium (Pale Ale): Same as above. read more

DC Brau is a well-known and respected brewery name. I live outside of Philly and can find their flagship beers without much effort. Unfortunately, there didn't appear to be a single brewery exclusive or semi-rare choice available during my recent visit to the actual brewery's headquarters. Just a handful of prevalent beers I've had before. I went with a 3-beer flight and chose the Public, Hefe, and Pils. None of them were anything extraordinary. Don't get me wrong, they were good! But I'd prefer tasters of more nontraditional options. Thankfully, other breweries are nearby in DC and the surrounding area that do step up to the challenge. Do visit here if you want a growler fill, are interested in a facility tour, or if you have a hankering for one of their flagships. Otherwise I'd vote to pass. read more

DC Brau Brewing has the largest distribution out of any DC brewery serving their beers in most DC grocery stores, restaurants, and bars. Their brewery is in NE DC in an industrial area (Major points for being next to a DC chocolate factory). Every night they have some special going on whether it's teacher's night or neighbor's night. Get a flight or a pint and place some of the games they provide like Catch Phrase in their sitting area. Note: They don't do many darker beers. DC Brau is a must visit at some point if you like beer and are in the city. It is also solely responsible for my recent interest in IPAs, so thanks for that DCB! :) They have several really great brews, with my favorites right now being the SOA and the OTWOA. The tours they run every hour only last about ten minutes and allow you access to the entire place, so if that's of interest to you, I would say go for it! Just remember to wear closed toed shoes. There is ample parking behind the building and they often have a food truck out back and they have random snacks and some cool merch available for purchase, along with cans, growlers and kegs of beer. read more

I had access to a car for the weekend so I tried to brainstorm places to explore that aren't transit accessible. Northeast DC jumped to mind immediately. The only place I've gone to in that area is the Comcast Service Center (RIP) and surely the quadrant has more to offer. A tiny speck on Google Maps near the border with Maryland called out to me. DC Brau! I feel like I've known it all my life but have never stopped to think where it comes from. This would be the perfect adult field trip. DC Brau is literally invisible to muggle eyes. It's tucked behind a nondescript strip mall, marked only by tiny signage and what I thought was a service door. We were hoping to go on a brewery tour but they're only offered on Saturdays. Instead, we each got a flight of beer. The bartender (beerkeep?) was friendly, but I asked for no porters and received one. It tasted like not-salty-soy-sauce. Not a convert. Without the tour aspect, it kind of feels like you're drinking in your friend's oddly decorated garage while he watches you... so I would make every effort to go on Saturday. read more

One hipster Saturday my boyfriend and I decided to check out the DC Brau brewery. Decked out in hoodies, skinny jeans, and too-big-for-my-face-glasses we piled into my nonchalant Civic and headed up to a semi-sketch part of DC. The brewery is located in the back of a very unassuming strip mall. There is not too much going on but as soon as you enter the door you will be greeted by throngs of people aching to get a taste of DC Brau's sweet, sweet nectar. They hold very informative brewery tours every 15 minutes, give you four free tastings, and also have local aspiring food vendors selling their wares. For a mere $16 you can buy a growler and fill it with your favorite brew. Unfortunately, my growler has been sitting empty for a few months but I keep it on my shelf to remind all my friends how cool and indie I am. PS: Even though I'm hip and SO over everything...I will say I love the Citizen Pale Ale! read more

But really, a flight of 3 or a pint for $5 is a good deal. On Saturdays they have a new food truck come but if not there are some snacks inside for sale. TOUR - Saturday's only. Really chill tour guide, but it can be hard to hear if you're in the back. Sometimes it felt rushed but if you do have questions, feel free to ask. SPACE - The brewery itself is big but the seating for visitors is limited. Come expecting to stand so that if you do get a seat you feel lucky. One restroom for all, sorry. Meh not worth the drive to the outskirts of DC on the Maryland border to visit this place. I enjoyed a few of their beers whenever I visit DC (The Public, Corruption), but the selection available in the taproom weren't all that great. I think I liked 2 of them, and the rest were just average. The guy working at the brewery was super cool though, and he suggested some good places for us to check out in the city to eat and drink. If you have limited time in the area, I would visit some of the other local breweries and tap rooms before this one. read more

I pulled up to a strip mall in a sketchy part of DC. If there wasn't a sign for DC Brau, I probably would've thought I was in the wrong place. A friend and I came for the tour on a Saturday afternoon. We walked in, and the bouncer gave us each four tickets for free beer tasting. The room inside smells like hops (of course) and is filled with a few folding tables and plastic chairs. The walls are covered in awesome graffiti art. Unfortunately, I didn't like any of the beers on tap that day. It was a pale ale, the IPA, the heffewizen and a porter. All seemed pretty hoppy. But the staff was friendly, and quickly gave us generous sized samples. And when it came time for the tour, we were told that we couldn't enter because we needed closed toe shoes. Apparently this was on the website, but my friend and I missed it. So, wear sneakers if you go here! read more

This was a disappointing experience. We went as a group to tour the brewery and although the beer is good, the tour is underwhelming at best. Aside from the place being pretty much in the middle of nowhere, there's nothing special about visiting it. The tour is a 10 minute journey through essentially one large room from which you learn very little and for which its almost impossible to stay engaged. And there are no free samples afterwards! Sure, you can buy there beer but you can do that at stores as well, so I don't really see the appeal in visiting. read more

There aren't enough words to describe the way I feel about this place, the people that work here, or their beer. I can usually only get over here on the weekends and it's always busy. Despite that, we've always been able to get drinks quickly and find a seat/ counter space to stand at. There's always a food truck out front on weekends, or you can bring your own food in. Dogs are also allowed. The staff is always friendly, and helpful. And if you're like me and come here often, they're likely to remember you. They do tours on weekends for the public (not to be confused w/ The Public) or you can arrange for a private tour for your group ahead of time (which I highly recommend). The art work in the tasting room and the brewery is always a treat to see. It doesn't change, but they're pieces that you're likely to find something new every time you see them. They always have their 3 core beers on tap (I'm partial to The Public), as well as a few of their others depending on the time of year. OTWOA is a must have for us whenever we see that it's on, as well as the Stone of Arbroath their scotch ale. They also usually have something different(or familiar, as it were) on nitro that's fun to try. Their Brau Pils, their take on a classic German pilsner, is growing on me more and more, and, actually, the artwork on this can is my fave so far. They also released a recreation of Christian Heurich's Lager recently. It's very good, but it's also a sneaky 7%. Just know, if you drink too much of this and find yourself dancing on a table- you've been warned! Kudos, Brau. Our group showed up a little before they closed-they close early on Saturdays. I will say that the beers they have on tap are better than a lot of the canned stuff that they have.They have a large space and two bars and a lot of space to sit and talk. We missed their tours but the guys behind the bar were pretty cool and I even talked one of them into giving me a beer slightly past last call. Both of the beers I had were Double IPAs and were hoppy but were distinguishable enough that they both had character. I want to go back earlier so that I can sample a lot more of their stuff. The second time was also pretty good. I have to say that the majority of the stuff they put out is decent and solid while some of their beers can be misses. Their saison was pretty good, but to be honest, the stuff they put out for packaging you can skip. All the more reason to come straight to the source though. read more

Your first impression after getting out of your Uber is - oh damn it, I'm lost. Then you saddle down the driveway and see the sign and know you've arrived. The brewery has a pretty sizable drinking area with lots of board games and a hefty snack selection for purchase. When I went I tried a flight of all 8 of their beers which was pretty good - and a good value at $12. I appreciated their pilsners. The beers start getting a little warm towards the end so I'd recommend sharing a flight with someone to finish it quickly, alas I was flying solo. It seems like a good place to hang out and catch up with friends - which is what most people appeared to be doing. read more
