There is an Afro Caribbean fusion concept to the menu that isn't represented necessarily by the listing, but you will not be disappointed. Even down to the thoughtful seasonal drinks this place is super intentional. There's a lovely patio and the interior is quaint for fine dining with white tablecloths, but there are TVs throughout so you can watch the games... Even in the bathroom! The staff was very attentive the whole time, helping to decide what we were going to eat. And they are very involved in wanting to see how to have even more engagement from their clientele. Go check out this black owned restaurant! Food-everything we ate was so tasty. My favorites were the salmon sliders and jerk wings. Brussel sprouts were flavorful and my guests loved the cook on the lamb chops. My friend got the chicken and jollof and wouldn't even share. I was told to wait for a server to come out, and maybe 10 minutes went by before a server came out and asked if anyone had served me. I said no, and she told me to come inside and she'd take care of me. I went inside and there were a few patrons. The music inside is exceptionally loud, so it's kind of hard to have a conversation or even take an order over the music. They had happy hour going on while I was there and they had some good options. I got a cup of pepper soup, jerk wings, and a side of jollof rice. Everything I had was very tasty. The pepper soup was very spicy, so I'd proceed with caution if you can't handle spice. I've had their jollof before and it was just as good as I remember. The chicken was also pretty good too. What is a little annoying is they have white table cloth which can stain easily. I'd prefer if they didn't have that, just because if you make a mess you are looking at it while eating. They seemed to be prepping for an event while I was there, so a lot of people running around and shifting seats. I felt like I should rush too, so I can be out of their way, lol. Another 5* experience. Myasia behind the bar was super helpful in deciding between the fettuccine and the burger. I think both would have been great. I ended up w the fettuccine. She was 5* for sure. Perhaps it's still growing pains, since the restaurant had its grand reopening in May 2023... Maybe not. For starters our server mixed up and/or forgot each of our orders. Came here with the family since we live in the neighborhood and had an absolutely wonderful experience. While we were there everyone from the owners, waiters and even the chef were exceptional. Every aspect of our food was delicious. With even the chef coming out to make sure the meal was to our satisfaction. Can't say enough good things about this establishment. My son and I went a last week and I must say Thu is a hidden gem! The food was seasoned to perfection. I love their homemade sauce. The ambiance and aesthetics were nice and we experienced great service. My only con was the price of the drinks and no beers on tap. The price of the bottle for the beer I could've brought a 6 pack for that price. The price of the drinks during happy hour were pretty steep compared to other Happy Hours in the area. Points for the ambiance and decor. The furnishings were fresh and modern and the afrobeats set a nice vibe for the place. However, that's about where it ends for me. I ordered the crab fries as a starter but they were so bad that I didn't even want to order food. On the one hand, they provided a decent portion of crab. However, the fries were unseasoned and soggy. They were also drenched in some weird sauce that was about 90% mayonnaise. The other 10% was some undiscernable flavor. If they had put some Old Bay in all of that mayonnaise, maybe they could have pulled off a decent sauce to compliment the crab on the fries, but that "mayonnaise sauce" just gave the fries an unctuous taste and texture. Also, if they drizzled the sauce on instead of trying to put it on every conceivable surface of the dish, maybe it would have worked better. The bartender told me they were out of the one drink that I wanted, but the waitress recommended mocktails. I didn't see them on the menu so I didn't even know they we're offered. Cool. I ordered the Marion Barry Mule (as a mocktail) with pineapple instead of blackberry. Well imagine my surprise when I received the bill and I'm charged for a full cocktail, alcohol and all. In addition to that, it was very cold in there. I didn't notice it at first but as the sun went down, the chill definitely became more apparent. TL; DR: I paid about $42 (including tax and automatic gratuity) for nasty, greasy fries and a mocktail in a chilly restaurant. It's a 'no' for me. read more

Host dressed well and I can appreciate that! we enjoyed our food although it took a little while; this is a newer restaurant and I believe on the day we went they were training new staff so we understood that there would be a few hiccups in service. The lamb chops were delicious it was seasoned perfectly i just wished all of them were cooked to same temperature. There were three chops: one was overcooked, one a bit under; and one was cooked as requested (price was bit high for those kind of mistakes). But everything were very flavorful the chops, spinach, and mashed potates. We originally came in for the 8-9 PM Mixology class they listed on Eventbrite and boy did that turn out to be a bust. We arrived a few minutes early and were told by a host that the 7-8 pm course was still going on and wrapping up shortly so we should have a seat at one of the tables (note: some of the group had JUST been seated at the bar and had yet to start making drinks) Around 8:22 PM, a server came over and told us along with a few other parties that the 7 PM class should be wrapping up no later than 8:30 and he brought us some waters and we started our food orders. At 8:50 PM, the previous class had still yet to wrap and the server came to tell us the oxtail spring rolls we order were not available. He then came back about 2 minutes later to tell us that now the beef suya was not available either. We then asked how the beef suya wasn't available but the beef suya sliders we had ordered were. He thought about it and then told us that we were right, those wouldn't be available either so this completely scrapped 2 people's orders. They brought out the crab fries pictured below which were interestingly presented and after a few bites, we realized the crab was ICE COLD and sent it back. The chicken suya sliders came on king Hawaiian rolls but the amount of chicken on there was literally bite size (sorry for the half eaten picture but I'm not exaggerating). The brussel sprouts were average at best. If you're still reading this, it's past 10 pm and we never got to do the mixology course. Would not recommend coming for the food as it was mediocre or the mixology experience as it was poorly planned. I'll start by saying that I was so excited to see this place being remodeled. The neighborhood desperately needs a local, solid restaurant. This just isn't that. And that's okay! I do not think that I am the target demo, and that might make me sad but is also okay! The menu spans the globe--jollaf, grits, scallops, chicken and waffles, wings, etc.--and seems to be going for an upscale vibe. There's a tiny red carpet you have to pass over to get in. Pricing is varied so you can spend as much or little as you like. The scallops are $55. Vegan pizza is $14. In some ways it feels like a different person landed on each menu item and its price. There's no wine menu, just a choice of two reds or one white. Lots of shots and mixed drinks, though, if that is your vibe. I sat at the bar with a friend and was ignored for 15 minutes while the two people behind the bar were busy making lemon drop shots for a party upstairs and complaining about how DC's Metro system isn't as good as New York's. Which, fair, but once they did notice me the service wasn't much improved from when I was being completely ignored. The shrimp and grits were fine but not great, and both my friend and I ended up feeling ill later that night. The only thing we had in common was wine, and we hadn't seen each other in months so it seems weird that we would both suddenly have the same bug after being here--but the wine hadn't gone bad or anything so I truly don't know what that was about. We got there early-ish (5:30/5:45) before when we thought the rush would be, so I definitely wouldn't go back during a more typical dinner hour. That said, I personally probably won't be going back. I passed by this neighborhood restaurant and the fun bright orange umbrellas on the patio caught my eye so I stopped in. The space downstairs was small, welcoming and cozy. A bit later the owner took me upstairs to their private dining room that accommodates up to 60 with a separate VIP room for 15. Now for the food. I ordered the oxtail egg rolls as a starter and the oxtail eggs Benedict with a side of friend plaintains as my meal. Well.... the oxtail egg roll were HUGE and I was only able to eat two pieces. The entire order could have been a scrumptious meal!!!!. The oxtail Benedict was pretty tasty and came with a generous side salad - this again was another meal. The order of fried plaintains came with at least 12 pieces so again a much larger portion than I anticipated. So be prepared to get more food than you bargained for which makes all the meals shareable. The flavor and taste of the food was also a pleasant surprise. The African infused spices made everything great yet not spicy hot. The bartender suggested I get the house favorite frozen cocktail called the Mama Africa. I met some friends here on last Sunday. They kept bragging about the place. Upon first glance it's very quaint on the inside. I understand upstairs is much larger. I had the red snapper with jollof rice and cabbage. It was sooooooooo good. The fish was cooked to perfection. The rice was well seasoned and how I wish I had an entire plate of cabbage. My hubby had the catfish and grits. He said it was very good and the portion size was plentiful. For an appetizer I had the calamari. It was fantastic. But I still wanted to support a local restaurant, and I love the cuisine, so we kept our plans, and I'm so glad we did!! The oxtail spring rolls were SO good! Really crispy, flavorful, and well-balanced. It came with mumbo sauce, but I think they tasted better without. I had never had oxtail before today, and I was totally wowed by the oxtail entree. The meat was super tender, the sauce was really rich, the rice was cooked perfectly, and the vegetables were tender. I couldn't even finish the plate because there was so much food, so it was definitely worth the $30. The staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgable of the menu, and helpful throughout. We were checked on by our really sweet waitress a number of times and always had our water glasses filled. Whenever I'm thinking about giving a 5 star review, I always ask myself "what about this dining experience would be better?", and I truly can't think of any. All things considered, it's a great neighborhood spot. We had a quick business happy hour there and I ordered truffle fries, the signature wings, and the calamari. First off the prices are great, very reasonable! The portion sizes are decent and if you live in Europe they are normal .. The restaurant is clean and the ambience is friendly. The atmosphere was really light and fun downstairs, but we chose to eat upstairs because they were testing out their first Karaoke night downstairs and we had my 7 month old son with us. But we could still hear the people laughing and singing upstairs. It was very enjoyable to us and the other family upstairs. Now to discuss the food. It was really tasty and large portions. We ended up taking to go boxes home. We started with the Hennessy drink (Mama Africa) be careful with this drink... it will have your head spinning! It was nice flavorful, strong and delicious. Our appetizers tasted like seasoned steak cooked perfect and sweet heavy donuts.
