After numerous conversations, over about 8 weeks, I couldn't get a commitment from Steve. Every time I was told they would try for something, they failed. Steve will promise to be there, get you a date, try to get to you, etc, and then just nothing. If the owner conducts business like this, I can only imagine how his crew would behave. I ended up finding a quality contractor (ZF Outdoors) that was able to bail me out, after the delays Steve caused, and still have it done by the deadline. IF YOU WANT YOUR JOB DONE ON TIME CALL SOMEONE ELSE! I'm glad I did! UDATE: Regarding Steve's comments about a deposit. To give a contractor 50% before they even start is crazy, because of situations like this with contractors disappearing and/or failing. Steve and I spoke and settled on 4 payments of 25%, the first of which was due when he showed up and started working. You can believe what you want but BUYER BEWARE!!

So, since our house needed to be painted, we decided to give the contract to them to paint the exterior of our 1927 home which has a lot of trim work, railings, finials, etc. Another great job completed on schedule and within budget. We even had them do a few extra fixes to long-standing problems other contractors either created or never fixed properly like a bathroom vent, etc. We've worked with lots of contractors for small jobs to entire "gut rehabs" and more important than price (though they are very competitive), Matt and his team are honest, attentive, and committed to ensuring your job is done properly and with integrity - not common among the contractors we've worked with over the years. He sent out 1 older gentleman that worked slow, missed an entire section of lawn then sent me a $300 bill for one mowing visit stating that it "should be cheaper going forward" depending on how long it takes. When I questioned him on why it wasn't two guys doing the work he said he only had one mower, I then stated well another guy could've been doing the weed whacking and blowing. He got very upset said he meant the price was per person and that is not what he originally said to me. He then threatened to put a picture of my home with my info into the local newspaper etc and reissued a new invoice $60 higher now stating I owe him $360 for one cut. I filed a complaint with the general attorney's office. He's slandering me multiple times stating I'm a scammer and don't pay my bills, when I was simply disputing my bill for pricing discrepancy as I would not have hired him for $300 for one visit to mow and that he quoted me $120 an hour for two people and only sent one. I am a female and he is clearly trying to take advantage and threaten me, this man is not an ethical person or businessman, stay far far away!!! If you do choose to work with him everything in writing beforehand, proceed with caution. Edit - Collection agency will not take this case as I have proof of his actions and threatening behavior. Most of companies I pinged did not respond at all, and the smattering that did said they were booked through October. Thank my lucky stars, though, Joe called me back within the hour and said he'd come by between 4:30 and 5pm to take a look-WHICH HE DID! Off to a good start and it just kept getting better! I walked him through the challenge at hand: we needed to install an air conditioner in our garage, but we only had one janky window to work with that didn't fit the most narrow window unit, a standup unit didn't cool the space, and we didn't really want to lose use of the window entirely. Joe jumped right in and suggested a quick, flexible, and affordable solution: build an insulated window box so we can easily install and remove the AC seasonally and maintain the insulation that we need during the colder months. Genius! Not only was his idea a good one that checked all boxes, he presented his ideas clearly, answered all my questions thoroughly, and didn't pander to my very unimpressive knowledge of construction in general.
