What a fabulous restaurant! If you are in search of a wonderful restaurant with a cosy feeling to…read moreit then this place will definitely dazzle your tastebuds. I loved the food, customer service, and ambiance. I definitely hope to revisit Poppe again sometime in the future. They are so flexible and courteous when it comes to any special requests or allergies. There is so much charm to this lovely and unique city that you will develop a great deal of affection for it.

This restaurant will not disappoint. I got the Blacksmith's Special (the chef"s special of the day) which started with a very creative pairing of a gumbo salad atop a mackeral tartare. The second course was a classic oxtail broth, which is perfect in it's deep, rich flavor coupled with the crisp bitterness of the scallions and soft earthiness of the Anoki mushrooms. The 3rd course was a pairing of a white fish with a seared tuna over sauteed fresh spinach - amazing! The meat course was another duet, this time of venison and wild boar both wrapped in bacon. They were served with Belgian mash and au grautin potatoes and a Waldorf salad. All so good that I didn't have an appetite for dessert! The service was as excellent as the food. Fons was particularly good at the wine pairings. Bottom line: Go and enjoy!

It's what makes it so pleasurable. The Gravenstraat, where it's located, is literally 10 feet across. The two benches attached to their front outer wall seats 8 comfortably and standing in the middle of the narrow street or against the opposing wall - with a drink - can bring them a hefty fine. So, they draw a line of demarcation (two feet in front of the benches) on the brick street with a piece of chalk which you are asked and required to stand behind. It just makes it all the more cozier. Inside, the bar seats 6-8 and the two tables, left and right of the door, seats 12-14. And that's it. Weather permitting, sitting on the benches is the best place to people watch in Amsterdam. Trust me.

I appreciated the correct glassware for each brew & the appropriate logo on the tap options & ample selections available. Staff were knowledgeable and tolerant with people coming in looking for something they'd like with no idea of what they like. I also appreciated the no groups policy, as they denied service to a party of 10 that had very clear potential to be disruptive. Perhaps most of all, I appreciated the RECORDS the dj was spinning- wowza & the decor was quirky.
