Because of him filing our business taxes incorrectly, we now owe many penalties. The reason why one hires an accountant is because we don't have time or don't know what we are doing. Now I don't have time to deal with the mess this guy has put me in. I still have pending items with this guy and the government is set to put a lien on our account unless he refiles correctly. Simple right? It's simple the guy answers the calls and does it. I gave him clear instructions to get this fixed in a rational manner, but he hasn't responded to my calls, emails, texts, and is not at his office (my partner checks). I had a small issue…read morewith the IRS which probably took nearly two years to resolve and I wanted to throw in the towel quite a few times and just pay, but Clayton requested we continue to file and stay patient and in the end his slow but cool approach paid off. The IRS settled the matter and our tax was corrected. Also I have been going here for more than a decade now and to be honest his prices have never increased in fact some years he has charged me less. I feel the little amount I do pay is well worth it and certainly trust having someone file for me is better than me doing my own.

I've been coming here for years for tax advice and preparation. I was happy and satisfied with the services with Ben Ikegami. My return isn't too difficult. I have one rental property in addition to my condo. Then a few years ago his son Paul took over. Well last year Paul prepared my return incorrectly. The IRS recalculated my return giving me 20% of the expected return Ikegami had originally submitted my return for. Paul insisted that the return was prepared correctly. When I left several messages for Paul. He never returned any of my phone calles, I had to go in person to his office to get an explanation. Needless to say I was very upset and angry of his lack of returning my calls and service. Paul didn't know what the heck he was talking about and mis-interpreted the first time home buyer law. He did not apologize nor did he return any portion of my $320 tax preparation fee. I'll be doing my own tax return for 2010 via Turbo Tax. At least it'll be done correctly. If I can give a negative 5 stars I would for Ikegami & Company.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE…read more I would give negative stars if I could. I honestly don't know how this firm considers themselves as a "business" and am surprised they are still around. In early August 2015, I contacted the firm to inquire about becoming a corporate entity, rather than an independent contractor. I left a message and Paul contacted me back, answered a few questions I had and asked to give him the payment information, along with 3 possible names for the cooperation. I paid $650 to them, including an expediting fee, since I wanted this to be completed by September. I called them a month later to follow up on the status. No one returned my call. I called back again and when I asked the receptionist, she said that it was still "pending." I did this for 3 months. It was the same thing each time. No one would call and still pending status. I called again several times in November and surprise surprise--no one returned my calls again. So I call back and this time, I get a response from the receptionist who says that they need 3 NEW names for the cooperation because the three I gave them before won't work, per the attorney. THIS IS 3 MONTHS LATER. Why is it 3 months later that I'm getting this information?! I'm thinking they basically dropped the ball but didn't want to admit it. But since I had already paid the fees, I sucked it up and gave them three names. December rolls by and still pending status. So now it's January, 5 months later and I call to see what's going on with the status and STILL PENDING. RIdiculous. So I demand for my money back. The receptionist says that I have to speak with Denise, the office manager to see about that. She says she will leave a message to ask her to call me back, but of course, she doesn't. So I call back the next day to be told that Denise is "on the phone and unable to talk" but that she spoke with her and she said that the process was "farther along than she thought." Funny that Denise is "on the phone" but the receptionist is able to talk to her. I ask her to have Denise call by the end of the day and asked her to flag it as urgent, but she doesn't. So I have to contact an attorney and finally, after the attorney comes into the picture, Paul suddenly reappears and they are able to contact him and they are able to refund me my money. These past 5 months have been EXTREMELY frustrating. No one EVER returns calls at this firm and Paul is always in "a meeting." I asked repeatedly to have Paul call but he doesn't. I also e-mail him but of course, nothing. The receptionist reveals that Paul "hasn't been in the office much." I was also told that the fees for the startup were steep from another accounting firm. Aside from the frustration, this place has really disappointed me. A LOT. My family had gotten taxes done before by Paul's dad and stuck with Paul, even though they didn't like him that much, but now it's clear that we won't EVER be going back to the firm to get our taxes done. It sucks that the trust built by his father is completely gone.
