I was running a few minutes late and immediately apologized when I walked in, as I fully understand that time is important in this industry. However, the receptionist, Jaden (red curly haired girl), was noticeably rude in both tone and demeanor. There were dismissive facial expressions and an overall unwelcoming attitude that made me feel uncomfortable right away. As a new customer, first impressions matter, and this interaction was not a good one. I respect professionalism and understand policies around timing, but there's a way to communicate that respectfully. Can't say enough about DLM. The staff and the experience of the stylists is amazing. They use the highest quality products which is so important for the well being of your hair. They also have an adorable shop within the salon where you can find anything you need from jewelry to bags to skin care. It's just a great experience. I really wanted to like this place.. I scheduled a haircut and glaze. Haircut is amazing and the assistants/employees are so sweet. When I arrived, I was told I was only booked for the haircut and not the glaze and would have to come back later in which I did(no problem, was very accommodating).. I asked the colorist to kindly avoid any red tints/hues as I just finished getting it out of my hair after 2 years and only use cool tones.. I then ask her to darken my front pieces with the glaze (4 pieces at most), and she charged me an entire separate glaze bowl for my 4 front pieces and another glaze bowl for the rest of my hair ($55 each). I'm not sure why she couldn't use the same glaze. My hair has nothing but red in it and it's a red tint all over again.. I'm not sure if she rushed or didn't care.. I was really excited to try this place. I trusted this salon over my usual colorist and I really wish I stuck with my usual colorist I ended up spending $60+ than I expected. I felt compelled to come on here and leave a review. Before making my appt I was skeptical due to the high amount of negative reviews. However, I decided to go for it and I'm so glad I did. I will start off by saying this is a very nice salon. When I got there I walked up to the front desk and they offered to take my coat, I received a tour of the salon and a cup of coffee while I waited for my colorist. Dominique came over and I showed her some inspo pictures and she walked me through the whole process of what she was going to do. She is extremely knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable. She applied my highlights quickly with the help of her associate. The associate I can't remember her name was the sweetest. She was on point with the timing and when to wash out my hair. Brianna cut and blew out my hair. Overall it was a great experience I loved my hair. And yes it can get pricey. They do offer you their products .. just simply decline if you don't want it .. not a big deal. The ONLY comment I will make is at the end they offered me 3 envelopes to give a tip .. the colorist.. associate and the person who did the cut and blow. That was different for me because I'm used to going somewhere where one person does everything. It's hard tipping 3 ppl especially when you want to give them what they deserve. But I understand the logistics behind it. Each person that works with you is trained and specializes in that area of work. Which is what I feel a lot of ppl leaving reviews don't understand. Also. This place is beautiful super clean, trendy, busy, and has good energy. I came in recently and had an appointment with Yvonne. She was super friendly,very professional and knowledgeable. The reason why I didn't rate higher was for the following reasons: When I made the appointment you actually have to tell them how much you want to spend so they can match you to the appropriate stylist. The price varies by stylist so long story short I ended up paying almost double what I expected and has indicated to the person on the phone. Wish there was more transparency with this instead of sticker shock at the end. Yes at consult she discussed pricing for coloring but it was not all inclusive and not where I told the receptionist I wanted to be in cost. Too late at that point to walk away without leaving stylist high and dry or being embarrassed. Another thing was that the color ended up way lighter than I wanted even with the additional glaze that I paid for it's still the exact color I had in my washed out highlights months back. Not what I wanted. I tell all stylists that my color takes fast so I think it was over processed despite telling her this. Also the highlights look old bc she decided to start the highlights way down in my head instead of high up where I wanted. I showed photos of what I liked but I did tell her I wanted them high up bc I didn't want them to look grown out. She insisted the photos I showed her had them lower on the head and although I explained I wanted them high up she did it really low. Like half way down so now only a few weeks out they look months old and washed out color. I understand the photos I showed her varied but the highlights should have never been started soooo low. The photos were to show her overall color and styles that I liked. The products used also dried out my hair horribly so now I have to deal with dry damaged hair at the ends. Hair cut was not included in my over $350 price tag without tip. Lastly I got a great blow out by someone else there and it made up for being unhappy with the color at that moment. Blow out with curls lasted 3 days which I appreciate with very straight fine hair I have never had it last that long. I was there for over 3 hours, tried to explain the best I could what I wanted and ended up spending over $400 and didn't even get what I wanted. I will be going somewhere else to fix this and cut my hair and will pay much less with good products and cut and blow. Overall I will not return although you can tell the stylists are skilled and know a lot they need to listen more to their customers needs starting from the phone call to make an appointment in my opinion. read more

Beautiful place. Horrible energy. The receptionists are a bunch of pushy mean girls and the owner walks around like a tyrant. I have watched her yell at her employees in the middle of the salon. The stylists are all stuck up and they treat you like a number just trying to push services on you to rack up your bill. The service is not relaxing at all. It's like a factory in there. Came here to get an oxygen facial and dermaplaning. Alyvia was my esthetician, and she did an amazing job. Did everything I asked for and I've never felt more relaxed. I called back after receiving the message and they had already rebooked the appointment, didn't even give me time to respond. NEVER AGAIN!!!! Where should I begin?!!!! This place is more like a factory than a salon. Upon walking in, I was ignored by 4 staff members who were all staring at the computer together and waited about 5-10 minutes before I was even acknowledged. She basically said my skin was dull and dry which is a joke because I had gotten a facial a few days before and had been really happy with my post facial glow all week. MARKETING SCHEME!!! When she finally shut up about my skin she asked if I wanted a paraffin treatment for my hands. They will do anything to suck money out of your wallet here!!!!! I asked to keep the length as much as possible, long layers, face framing bangs and a U shape in the back. My stylist was nice and told me about her 8 years of experience for cutting curly hair and how much she loves to do it and then proceeds to make a joke "the hardest part about cutting curly hair is knowing when to stop". When she was cutting my hair she would stretch the curls and cut down instead of cutting with the curl like if my hair were straight which really thinned out my hair. When it was time to style she did not put enough product in my hair. Then it came to diffusing, there was no diffuser in the whole store. Then she grabbed a sock diffuser you can find on Amazon for $10 and started to go crazy and it frizzed up so bad and told me "I'm going to stop because your hair is getting frizzy". I had to go home to style and it was so short... half my length is gone and I regret coming here. If getting a bad hair cut was on my bucket list then Lindsey would have checked that off my list. read more

Since my last review, I have moved to South Carolina. Every time I come to visit my family in New York, I get my hair cut here. They never disappoint. Lindsey, who helped me last time with the color job, has moved up to cutting hair and is always so friendly and ready to help. I expressed what I wanted to do with my hair (lots of split ends but wanted to keep as much length as possible to eventually donate :) ) and she gave me a consultation and advice on how to achieve that. I also wanted to get a fishtail braid after my cut. I was supposed to get braided by someone else, who had gotten preoccupied, so instead of having me wait, Lindsey helped out and braided my hair herself. She did a wonderful job. Came here for a blowout for my friend who just started a training with them. All I can say is wow!! They really do a wonderful job here and you can tell they do a great job with the training program they offer. I have very fine hair that will never hold curls from a blowout. Well that all changed at this salon. They ask you all about your hair to make sure they are using the right products. From the shampoo to the blow out everything was perfect. They do a great job with my blow out I was so happy! If this wasn't completely out of my way I would love to try coloring with them. But maybe I'll just make the trip! read more

I have been coming to this salon for over a year because of a specific stylist here. This stylist is incredible and is the only person I trust with my hair. She no longer works at the salon and honestly, I am so thankful. I dreaded coming to the salon because of how rude the staff is. The girls at the front desk appear to be bothered by having to help clients walking in and always seem to be judging people. Luckily this stylist now works freelance and I do not have to see those extremely rude employees anymore!! I know they have lost a lot customers because of said stylist leaving. Hi,I learned about De La Mer by delivering an UberEats order to the salon and I became a customer. I've been a steady customer for a little over a year now. At first, I was very pleased with the service. The hairdresser suggested how to grow out the short layers to eventually have my hair grow into a new style. I hung in there for five reshapes. By the sixth visit, I showed the hairdresser a recent headshot of myself and told her that I really liked my hair length and style in the picture. She is the person who got my hair to the length and style that I really do like. Instead of being appreciative of the compliment and gaining a happy customer, she insisted I listen to her and let her do what she wanted to continue to do. I let her do her thing but not as happy with the result compared to the time before. I feel people have bad days and I attempted to make another appointment. I appreciate the skill of the hairdresser but this time I was going to tell her that I want her to cut my hair to my liking. I called to make an appointment and the appointment setter told me that someone else would have to blow out my hair. Well, I'm a 30- minute customer paying $65.00 (wash, cut, and blow) and I give a $12.00 tip. She had no openings for two weeks but she was trying to squeeze me in. I happen to feel if a hairdresser does not have time to service a customer, they should not try to squeeze a person in. The store will still charge me the same money and I would still tip the hairdresser but now I have to tip another person in addition to the $77.00 I would spend receiving the service. Customer service, now out the window. Anyway, I gave a local mom and pop shop a try and the hairdresser did an amazing job. She followed the cut guide and gave me exactly what I wanted. No-frills kind of place but very clean and skilled hairdressers. Your hair salon is beautiful, clean, and the extra amenities are a treat but when customer service drops, it's not appealing anymore. I did my hair cut last week Friday August 14th with Julianne she usually super sweet.. the two times were good cuts too.. This time I waited it 20 minutes. I felt Rush but she was having a bad day. I think bc the manager Kim and people that work there are just rude. And I notice a lot of employee end up leaving, because they have bad attitude and no personality. Bad management. I have been going to this salon for about a year now. This is not your average mom-and-pop place like many others are; this is a top tier salon where you get the service you pay for. I think they do a fantastic job and the services are high quality, and they offer so many different things ranging from eyelashes to mani/pedis to extensions. Literally anything you need to get done you can get at this place. The salon itself is massive and beautifully decorated, and it feels very luxurious. I can also tell that they have extensive systems and processes put in place to ensure the client experience is consistent each time. In other words, they have their sh*t together. Each stylist and staff member seems to be highly trained. I feel extremely safe and comfortable going there in a covid world, as they take all of the necessary precautions. However, they lose a star for me because of their pushy product sales. I totally understand that they partner with Kerastase and have to try to make the sale to do well, but it has made me uncomfortable every time. My first haircut there ended up being a $300 bill and I was too embarrassed at that point to put the products back. After each appointment they literally hand the products to the cashier. I have even told the stylists upfront that I don't want or need more products, and they will continue to try to push them on you. At some point it just seems ingenuine and it puts a bit of a damper on my otherwise good experience. Despite that, I do love this place and I continue to go there because of how great it is. If you're looking for a salon that will help you look and feel amazing, and you can be prepared so as not to spend your life savings on Kerastase products, then this is the place for you. read more

I've been meaning to write this review. I was a little skeptical going to this salon after reading the reviews. I ended up booking an appointment and got booked for a blowout with Amanda how ironic because my name is amanda. Upon meeting her she was super nice and friendly. She made me feel very comfortable. The conversation was really nice, we did speak a lot about products but I think all the workers do. I will say that my hair has never felt so good after the products she put in and it held for days. I felt in a hair rut and recognized the need to find a great stylist (and colorist). I began searching "hashtags" on Instagram for keywords that fit my hair, one of them being "#curlyhair." This is how I stumbled upon Rachel (@rachicuts) and Dominique's (@colorbydd) Instagram. I scrolled through dozens of pictures of gorgeous cuts and color. My only regret is that I didn't find this team before my wedding. In my field of work, I appreciate interdisciplinary collaboration. Rachel collaborates with my colorist (Dominique) so that they create looks that compliment each other. Dominique is a talented colorist who takes the time to consult, educate, and preserve your hair's health. I used to think the instant outcome was key, but the journey is what determines the integrity of your hair. I love how both Rachel and Dominique plan together to help you reach your hair goals. Looking fab throughout the process is just a plus. I've recently decided to grow my hair out since I'm finally embracing my natural texture. I've had multiple appointments with Rachel following this decision where she mapped out a plan and switched up my cut so that my style grows out nicely; she is consistently shaping my hair, taking weight out, and adding style throughout the process.
