She was super nice and patient with our language barrier. The menu is almost entirely in Dutch, and so we had to google a lot of things. We ended up getting the Geit Kerrie and Thaise Kip. The goat curry came with curry potatoes and green beans, served with roti as you would expect in any West Indian place. It was phenomenally good and perfectly spicy. The Thaise Kip was a chicken, cashew, and veggie dish was served with rice and pickled onions. We were similarly wowed by this dish. Because of the wide variety of flavor profiles available in Surinamese cooking, from Curry with roti to stir fries, this is a restaurant where anyone will find something to their liking. If you do not speak Dutch, simply pull out your google translate and let this secret spot blow your mind.

Having never had it before, I was pleasantly surprised to see how many different parts of Asia seemed to influence this cuisine, especially given that Suriname is a South American country! There is satay, nasi goreng, goat curry, etc - stuff inspired from all over Asia but slightly different than you would get in their original countries. I ordered the chicken Longtong which is an Indonesian dish and a specialty of this place. It was OUTSTANDING and really filled me up too. I did not expect that especially given how nice and cheap it was - I had even ordered an extra side of Satay skewers which I then had to share. Service is nice and quick especially since you mostly just interact at the back stand to order, and then sit down. It was a bit crowded inside but the vibe is nice and we were able to get a table without waiting too much. One minor note is that our cards were not accepted here (visa, Mastercard), so make sure you bring cash! They did a good job of communicating this before we ordered so we did not have to waste too much time, and luckily we had just enough cash anyway. Overall, very solid recommendation for Amsterdam! For those unfamiliar, lumpia are much like egg rolls - crispy, fried rolls stuffed with vegetables and sometimes meat. Roti is a curry-based dish - in our case containing chicken, carrots, and potatoes - served with a bread (the "roti") that is dipped in the sauce. The restaurant itself is a bit cramped and warm, so we sat outside and ate our piping hot food while people-watching. It made for a delicious and inexpensive lunch - we returned later in our trip for more roti (it was that good).

The menu is in Dutch, but if you ask them they have an English one also. The food if you've never had surinamese food before kind of reminded me of Indonesian, Indian, Malaysian all kind of mixed together. Lots of spice but not spicy if that makes sense. They have a small dining room area, though I noticed most people would take their orders to go. I ate there 3 times while I was staying nearby. Also, very affordable. I will go back when I'm back in the area. Recommended!
