The nurses need a raise and the drs need to be fired! after waiting and waiting to for the dr to come to the room they called and the dr didn't even know he was a patient. the drs did nothing!!! and are useless. he had a collapsed lung they were going to watch to see if it got worse and after it did get worse They said he could go home and come back if we notice any more change! My ex-husband was brought to Deaconess Gateway by our daughter because he was in extreme pain. We could not understand why he was losing so much weight. We thought that since he had multiple back surgeries that it might be the cause of the pain. He was a smoker and had a clear x-ray of his lungs just this past February. They did a CT scan on him and he had cancer that had spread to his liver, kidneys, and bones. They did not give him anything for pain! When you are in stage 4 cancer you are in major pain! They did nothing for him and released him to do a biopsy the following week! That is heartless and cruel! My daughter took him to Baptist Health in Louisville where he was admitted and given pain management. He passed less than two weeks later. Do you know of anyone that can pass peacefully from cancer without pain management? I haven't met a person that could do that. I am not someone that knows nothing of the medical field, I worked for 10 years as a nurse aide and my youngest has her master's in nursing so we are not totally ignorant of the medical field. I guess they didn't want to admit him because he owed them money. I have never seen such cruelty from a hospital like this. Now I know why people in this state complain about the quality of healthcare. read more

First of all, the Doctors Nurses and most staff are excellent and above par. BUT,i have been going to deaconess for 10 plus years. In 2016 the billing dept failed to bill my secondary insurance after billing it years prior and the years after. I contacted them and kept reminding them I have a 2ndary insurance and please bill them. They NEVER did. Now they have me in collections and even though I should qualify for a reduction from their financial aid dept, then and now, they refused. The Drs, Nurses, and medical, and behind the scenes staff are 5 plus stars! Accts billings dept gets 1/2 star. Beware they are sue happy and will use their in house collections and a secondary collections, then sue you in court, even if they caused the issue to begin with. REMEMBER when dealing with their administration always notate everything. read more

Deconess is by far one of the best Hospitals I have been too. Two of my daughters were delivered there and the staff did a awesome job. Now when it comes to me well Deconess basically saved my life. In December of 2001 I came into ER with severe stomach problems. I was in bad pain. They took my blood pressure when they seen what it was the staff wasted no time they took me to the back immediately. They put me in a room they had to run a tube to my stomach cause it was not doing it's job. They ran more test and why I was in so much pain. I had total bowel abstruction and yes it required surgery. I was hospitalized for two weeks prior to my surgery. I'm great now but if I had waited I have no doubts that my digestive system would have ruptured. Deconess did a awesome job on me. read more

ICU killed my big brother Bob. He passed away 12/19/21. He was visiting Evansville. He was admitted to the ICU unit for chest congestion. The nursing staff were late with his meds. And hours late with his food. When he went in he was texting me and calling me. After a week there he couldn't do any type of communication but a thumbs up or down. I'd call through the day to try and get a blood pressure or heart rate update. The staff had a attitude. As if I was bothering them. So I started calling about 1 or 2 am when I knew someone was able to talk. Still the same thing. They would- ah huh and oh yea- me to get me to hang up. Then brother Bob got a bed sore. I asked if a wound care specialist has been called in to assess the situation on his backside. The nurse named Kennedy said, she didn't think so. I asked her what they were putting on it. She said, Vaseline: petroleum Jelly. I could not believe what I was hearing. The Doctor's were no better equipped with the knowledge of his condition. The week prior to me finding about the bed sore. The staff pulled all life saving and food from my brother. Then called expecting us to agree to pollutive care. We said, start everything back up stat. At this point, he was in such grave shape. They had to start a picc line for Bob to receive nourishment. From that day he lived 3 days. He took his last breath at 4:20 pm 12/19/21. The people that did this to my brother will have bad times and when they do experience these not to pleasant times. My brother's face will flash in their minds. Because Human's can't treat other's inhuman and get away with it. That's just not the way the world turns. Each and everyone of them will get their just deserts. So Be It. read more

I am specifically reviewing the hospice service at Deaconess from when my grandfather passed away in 11/07. I have been with my father's mother and my mother's father when they died. My grandmother died during the day surrounded by a large group. However, when my grandfather went, my grandmother, aunt, and uncle had all left about two hours prior to the final "procession." It was my my mother, two hospice nurses, and me. All of the nurses were wonderful, but the two who were there that night... I'm tearing up writing this. I wish I could remember their names. Their words and prayers meant so much and their actions were serene and made us know that his final moments were as peaceful and gentle as possible. These women were the absolute pinnacle of caring, loving-kindness and words alone cannot express my family's thanks to them. read more

I have know qualms with the professionals care from Deaconess Hospitals and their satellite offices. Deaconess Center town is responsible for billing. I am retired, have Anthem Medi blue coverage. Every time I use a Deaconess facility I receive bills for failure to pay. After long phone calls between Deaconess and Anthem each blames the other for failure to properly update their system. I have previously received a letter from a collection agency . Why since I am the senior citizen customer harassed from the billing department at Deaconess. Shouldn't Deaconess and Anthem MediBlue work it out themselves. Very irritating to repeat over and over and over and over. read more

Deaconess sent me a 1,051 bill regarding a yearly pap appt. I have insurance and they refuse to contact them and send the claims over so they sent me to collections because of this. 10/10 would not recommend unless you want to pay 1,000s for a yearly. read more

When your mother is 1000 miles away and in the hospital, you want to know she's being taken care of. I called her today and she had nothing but rave reviews about the doctors and nurses. While we were talking they brought her dinner which was delicious. I was discussing a problem my girlfriend was having in nursing school and when my mom mentioned it to the nurse, the nurse got on the phone with me to give me encouraging words for Katie. How nice was that?? I really felt like they cared about her and took care of all her needs. She's a little ornery, and I heard the nurses giving it right back to her and joking around with her.
