I've visited Dean Woo twice, and both times they were deeply healing, though in completely different ways each time! The first time he instantly hit on an emotional and burdened area, and I worked through it and came to terms with it and then felt peace and blissed out. I kept thinking, "This guy is the real deal!" for a large part of that massage! I'm a very science-minded person, so when I'd heard before things like the hips can hold onto a lot of emotion, I was skeptical, but I'm now convinced that tension does live in the body, and Dean is a master at finding that tension and releasing it. At the end, he did an abdominal massage (I highly recommend the 90 minute massage) where he was simultaneously working on my diaphragm, and I swear it taught me how to breathe better! The second time around, there was a part of the massage where I got really congested (maybe it was from all the emotion/tears coming out, or maybe it was somehow intentional). I think he would work on a certain pressure point and it would clear it to some extent, and I found I could usually find at least a tiny passageway for air to move through, sometimes in one nostril, sometimes in the other (now looking back, I realize it was kind of reminiscent of alternate nostril breath work). When I couldn't, I realized maybe I actually had my respiratory rate wrong; maybe my body was trying to tell me I didn't need to breathe as much! If I held my breath for a little, I found I was then able to take in air more freely. Dean has such a wisdom about the body and in just two sessions with him I have learned things about my own body that I probably never would have figured out on my own, not to mention all of the emotional work and epiphanies that came to me on the table. Found out about Dean Woo through a Groupon promo. Dean told me he has been practicing for 16 years. He has an outgoing personality and is passionate about his massage philosophy. I liked how he applied the right amount of pressure depending on the body area. He didn't go crazy heavy with a king fu grip which can make the experience uncomfortable. I actually slept and snored through part of the session which showed how relaxing the session went. His style and approach is different from the shiatsu massages I've had in the past. I went ahead and booked a 60 minute session for next month! I got a little lost finding his studio, but it's in the rear part of the building. read more

WARNING: Dangerous technique! I do not understand all of the positive reviews. They must be due to people not understanding proper massage technique and what is risky. I went to Dean for neck pain, and he did sort of a full upper body massage (some neck, back, arms), which was fine. His approach involves small fast circles (for healing and release), which is not grounded in real kinesiological science, but can't do damage at least. However, for the last portion of my session, Dean had me sit on the mat and he then proceeded to take my head and make full rotations, including rolling it back while putting pressure on my forehead. Extremely dangerous and damaging to neck vertebrae! Dean is NOT a registered massage therapist and he has no formal training. I recommend you be very careful if you choose to attend a session with him; don't be afraid to ask him to stop if something feels wrong or if you know it is a bad thing to do. read more

Dean was my last resort when I had a pinched nerve somewhere in my neck or upper back. I tried everything, chiropractic, acupuncture, heat packs, exercises, massage, ice, inversion tables, everything. First session with Dean he fixed the issue and freed the pinch. He does it by gently manipulating your body, spine, neck, arms, etc, as needed to increase blood flow in blocked places. He was the only one who could fix my issue, and I went for a couple follow up sessions. He will show you his favorite tool, the wooden foot roller... it's pretty awesome. Get one and use it.
