Yes, Deep Tissue Massage can hurt, initially; if you can withstand a few minutes of that minor "pain" you will find that the pain that brought you there has been alleviated. If the "pain" of her skilled treatments are beyond your tolerance - GO SOMEWHERE ELSE This is not for everyone, until you realize the benefit she provides, So Please do not disparage her knowledge and skill with a comment based on ignorance. They use deep tissue pressure point massage, stepped on my back, did a little stretching & used oil & hot stones to help with circulation, remove toxins & relieve pain. The only complaint I have is that they don't have a face pillow, so my chin was hurting towards the end when face down, but overall a good experience.
