As a new mom in the postpartum stage, I was looking for some much-needed relaxation and self-care, so I decided to try Zen Day Spa for my first-ever head spa treatment. I'm so glad I did. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly and felt welcomed. The spa had a peaceful, calming atmosphere that immediately helped me relax. Before the treatment started, we did a hair and scalp analysis, which I found really informative. The specialist showed me the condition of my scalp, explained what she observed, and discussed what my hair might be lacking and ways to improve its health. Afterward, I was taken to a private room and provided with a robe. The treatment began with a hair wash and the specialized water therapy used during head spa treatments. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect since it was my first time, but the experience was incredibly soothing. I also received a massage on my head, neck, and arms, which made the treatment even more relaxing. I left feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and like I had finally taken some time for myself. My hair felt noticeably softer and healthier afterward as well. My only suggestion would be that I wish the water therapy portion lasted a little longer because it was one of my favorite parts of the experience. When I first arrived staff looked me in the face and continued speaking to each other. After a few minutes I turned to walk out. Then they acknowledged me and assisted with my appointment. I don't recall the ladies name who performed my foot reflexology but it was a really good hour that I found relaxing. Location- easy to get to an ample parking I have purchased several Groupons for one hour massage, full body and one hour foot reflexology. They have clear and simple Groupon check-in options. I called and made up appointment stating the Groupon I had. The Groupon's are Monday through Friday appointments only. Pad a female masseuse several times and was very happy. My last appointment was with Simon for the reflexology. He was very methodical and used his forearm and elbows to really get in deep, which is what I prefer. He massaged my legs and feet hitting all the pressure points and my tired feet felt like new. The place is clean and quiet and nicely decorated. When I got home I bought another Groupon. read more

This place was insane. No air conditioning. Sweating so bad. The massage hurt so bad and left me hurting for days . My daughter was with me also and experienced the same. I kept thinking it's going to get better but it never did. I've had many many massages in many locations and overseas, so do yourself a favor and find another place. I usually go here a lot and bring family with me. And we usually buy groupons. But recently, every time I tried to use my groupons and schedule AHEAD OF TIME, they always cannot accomodate me. Like this is not a one time thing. They did it to me 3 times! I ended up refunding the groupon. If you guys can't accomodate the groupon customers, then maybe don't sell stuff on groupon. read more

Not the place to go to for a relaxing experience, but a must-go if you like deeper pressure. I enjoy deep pressure on my back, but it was just almost too much here. During my one hour massage, all of the movements were rushed and hard, even the ones on my face and scalp. I had a little lady, but she literally climbs up there and puts her whole body into it! I asked for lighter pressure at one point but didn't feel any significant change. I've never experienced this at any other massage places before, but she was basically scrubbing my back with her knuckles for a while and it kind of burned. It's now two days later and my back still hurts from that knuckle-scrub and I flinch even whenever someone lightly touches it. I think you just get what you pay for here. read more

We usually get massages on Saturday. Groupon had a special promo so I thought I'd try this place out. I wanted to make sure they had time today (Thursday at 3 pm() before purchasing. They had multiple couples appts available all evening. I made appts for 4:45 pm. They asked me to bring cash (sure, no problem). I asked if I should let them know now or later about having a Groupon. They told me "today is a restricted day" so I couldn't use my Groupon. Really??? A Thursday?? Well, thank goodness I didn't buy the Groupon just yet!! So now we're not buying a Groupon. We'll stick to our usual massage place. And they get a bad review. read more

Was happy they were able to see us today, price was $70 for 60 mins body massage. The masseuse cracked my back right away which I liked. I did not ask for hot stones but I felt like she used a roller on my body. The Swedish massage was a little deeper that I wanted but sometimes we need a little pain haha. If I still lived in Davis, I would probably consider gatekeeping this place so I'd always be able to get an appointment, but I moved and only make it back a couple times a year... and they deserve to thrive. Zen Spa is my favorite massage place in the world. I'm not exaggerating. Out of every massage in every city and every country I've been to, I would still choose to book here. A couple weeks ago my mom and I went to Thunder Valley and got fancy resort massages. She paid for it, so I didn't have the heart to tell her I thought the massage there was low key kinda booty. I have NEVER had a bad (or even so-so like the TV Resort one) experience at Zen Spa! I went again yesterday, just two weeks after TV Resort, and even without mentioning any aches or soreness from working out my massage was still top notch. Every knot was found. Am I bruised today? I'll give it a 2 star since the massage wasn't that bad. That young tall asian girl receptionist was R.U.D.E. No trace of niceness in her system. Just so you know when you're a receptionist you're the first face of the business! Be effin nice to customers! I called to make an appointment, here tone wasn't already nice. I told her I got groupon voucher after that she told me to bring cash to tip the masseuse. I was shock that she told me that. Tipping isn't mandatory and shouldn't be expected. I will gladly give a tip, but if you asked me to then that's different. This is a disorganized and completely rude place. After we booked a massage for a treating a friend on her 50th birthday, we were turned around for being 10 minutes late. The front office manager was rude and would not even consider or accommodate- considering that we had booked a 2 hour massage and spa experience. We were okay to even accommodate the delay into our time but he made sure we had a bad experience and a disappointing start to her 50th birthday. read more

Worst massage of my entire life, if i could leave 0 stars i would! This was my first and LAST time at Zen Spa Davis. I decided to come here as i read some pretty good and convincing reviews online, only to have thrown my money down the drain and left more tense than I came in. I originally booked an hour long massage for $70 but the massage was so unbearable I asked to switch to the 30 minute massage instead.... this will be a long review as this was quite the experience.... So when i went in for my appointment, I was taken to the first room by the front door where i'd be getting my massage. The masseuse took quite a while to come in but when she finally arrived she began rubbing my body and squeezing my arms and legs through the towel for nearly 10 mins. This began to hurt as it's a dry towel rubbing on my back repeatedly for that amount of time. it started to feel like rug burn! she also starts pressing all of her body weight on my back like she's a chiropractor trying to crack my bones. she did this multiple times and it was quite painful so i asked her to ease up on the pressure. as i said she was rubbing my body through the towel and it became quite painful so i asked her, "are you going to use oil or do you guys not do that here". she rudely ignored me, but shorty after reached for the oil and began rubbing my back so i let it go. i say rub not massage because she was literally caressing my skin with my oil and not massaging it. her "massage" was a mix of pressing down her entire body weight trying to crack my bones and rubbing oil on my back like it was sunscreen. at this point we were about 15-20 minutes into my massage when i realized i didn't want to be there any longer but didn't wanna make a scene. so i asked her to change to the 30 mins instead of the original hour massage i booked. she was confused by what i was saying and trying to understand me i think because she doesn't talk to me much but leaves the room without saying anything. i was confused why she just left and she also doesn't fully shut the door which makes me uncomfortable obviously as im undressed and laying on the massage table. and it made me feel like my privacy was not respected. she comes back with the younger lady sitting at the front desk. the younger lady confirms i want to change to the 30 minute massage and i said yah the massage is just a bit painful so i don't think i can take a full hour. she left and the masseuse continued the rest of the "massage". the massage lady keeps rubbing oil on my back and she then decided it's a good idea to jump on my back and straddle me to massage my upper back...keep in mind she is a heavier set women and i am 120lbs. this entire massage was unprofessional and painful in many ways. i didn't want to cause a scene and leave or refuse to pay, so when my massage was over i paid and left. but i knew immediately i would never come back. i will never be back and if you're smart you will stay away from this place. it's been a few weeks since my experience here but i cannot let this go, and i wanna write this review. i still don't know why my experience was so different compared to all of the other ones i see on this page. but i am ant to let everyone know if you choose to go here this may be your experience as well. read more

I had purchased a Groupon for couples full body massage with reflexology session, and my visit was in February 2021 but it took me a while to sit down and write a review so I'm currently writing reviews for places I've visited. Anyways, this visit in Davis was a good experience. For the price point, honestly I think it's a great deal. I skimmed the other reviews and it reminded me, I forgot his name but truly there is one worker there who is magical with their hands! Like seriously I'm not even joking. Great value, and of course it's not a luxury spa experience in Italy or anything extravagant like that, but the atmosphere was relaxing as well as the music and overall the experience you get is enjoyable and calming. I go to this place once a month and love this place. It's one of the only places I've been to that can book you same day, and they're always ready and timely when I show up. Because I like to do same day, I've had a number of different masseuses here. Jeff is a wizard. He's a Chinese medicine specialist and immediately could tell I had gastrointestinal issues and an arm injury. After the massage I could immediately feel a difference in my body, and my stomach has felt much better since. This was the best massage I've had at the $60/hour price point, and I will definitely be back. It helps to know a bit of Chinese, as most of the masseuses are native Chinese speakers who also speak some English. The receptionist is very fluent in English and has been helpful when I needed to communicate a specific request to my masseuse. read more

Every time I come here, I tell myself I wouldn't be back. But then I would have a sore spot and can't get in anywhere else thus coming back. They can always work you in, almost immediately. It's the only positive. They used to have 1-2 ladies that did ok job, but the last 2 times I went, it was just plain painful. They even hurt a rib of mine by putting all their body weight with poor mechanics into my back. If you have any spine issues, do not come here. read more

This was the worst massage i've ever received. This appointment started off horribly with the appointment time being moved from 4:30 pm, to 4:00 pm, back to 4:30 pm, then 4:45 pm, and ending at 5:00 pm. My friend and I still showed up though because to give them the benefit of the doubt, it was a same-day appointment. We were also told we would get $5 off of our appointments because of the inconvenience via text, then once my friend responded "ok" a few minutes before our arrival, we were told that the $5 off could be used for "next time". The masseuses spent a solid 10 minutes massaging us through a thin sheet, and after my friend asked if there would be any hand-to-hard contact they finally used their hands... and a whole bottle of oil. The massage then got super oily, then they put the sheets back over us after wiping us down with hot towels. The massage just wasn't that good to be honest. After the massage my friend got changed faster than I did because she had to use the bathroom. While I still had no socks or shoes on and my glasses in the corner. Right after my friend went to the bathroom a group of ladies rushed in to change the sheets for their next appointment so I didn't get to finish changing in peace. And when we got to the counter and I paid my $60 via Venmo- because we were told there was a 4% fee- the lady at the counter said "I see you sent $60, are you not going to tip?". . And I told her due to the appointment being moved around multiple times that I would not. She then made a facial expression of confusion and disgust. My friend also paid the $60 and we left. Scam! Don't go here. Had an appointment at 2pm they set up my room around 2:15pm And they started massaging by 2:26pm. My friend and i kept time and at 3pm one of them thanked us and the other one left. It was a lot of language barrier but the guy said we got there at 2pm and kept saying we started at 2pm and he showed us the sign up sheet. And they kept asking for tip. Well... I was very hesitant of rating this spa because it was at a great price for a deal on Groupon. I called because I wasn't familiar with the location and needed guidance on how to get there. The scheduler was very nice and helped with directions. The entrance of the spa is inviting hence why I took a snapshot. I entered ready to relax and get comfortable. The room was chilly and I asked for the temp to be adjusted but my therapist didn't understand unfortunately. I also wanted deep but received somewhat light pressure. I tried to communicate that throughout my massage but it just got to much and I was talking more than relaxing. I bought the massage and body scrub combo which I was excited for the body scrub because I had one before at another spa and I loved it! I loved this one too except for the area where you rinse off. The shower area was dark and the shower itself was older - didn't look good at all or clean to me but again I believe it was an older shower which just needs replacing the entire area is not inviting plus I was still cold from the massage room. The water pressure was nice and they provided shampoo/soap/wash. I would have brought my own shower shoes and wash if I knew any better when scheduling. Overall the 3 stars I enjoyed the service of the staff but the experience was a 1 star. I still believe in tipping although I wasn't satisfied with my massage. read more
