Finally made it to the Burrito Lady Food Trailer in Chinle. Located on the road to the Chinle…read moreHospital. Easy to locate now based upon the trailer. Had a very good roast mutton sandwich on fry bread with lettuce, tomato, green onion and chili slice. The mutton strips were cooked on a grill. The fry bread was freshly made. Excellent flavors. The mutton was not as tender as others I have had but all good. There are no tables or chairs so it is tailgate time. Visited by many locals. You need pay correct cash. Will stop by again when in the area.

It was lunch time on Thursday, and we are in Chinle, Arizona. So my brother in law ask me, 'what…read moreare you up for lunch?, so I answered, 'let go to the Burrito Lady'. So we took a drive to the road that takes you to the Chinle Hospital. Just as you turn at the light, just to your right is a small food truck like place where the Burrito Lady has her business. We walk up to the trailer, looked at the menu that sits right next to where you order. I saw the Roasted Mutton Sandwich, so we both ordered it. She asked us if we wanted it on a tortilla and fry bread, so we both said fry bread, and ordered our drink as well. The Roasted Mutton Sandwich is comes folded like a taco on Indian fry bread, stuffed with the Roasted Mutton, long slices of green chili, green onion, and tomato. What made this sandwich taste so good is the flavor of the Roasted Mutton, and of course the Indian fry bread. For those of you that have never had Mutton, you have to understand that it is fully cooked, and is an acquired taste. I first had Mutton in Tuba City at their daily swap meet at noon. It was grilled and was filled with similar like this one in Chinle. The way they cook it makes it real tasty. This is my story on my special lunch in Chinle. Hope some day you have an eating experience like mine.

Grandma's was closed, but this stand was open. They have quite a lot on the menu for such a small stand, and a lot of options for fry bread. We decided to go with the regular fry bread with cinnamon and sugar. The two ladies inside were friendly and got our order ready quickly. It was nice and fresh as they made it while we waited. It was extremely windy that day, so even though there were tables and seating available, we opted to just eat in the car and head back out on the road. The fry bread was delicious and a wonderful snack!

In fact, it's the only spot in the area to grab food. They got a picnic table where you can sit and eat, which is nice if you want to take a quick break. I tried the traditional fried bread ($8). You can choose your own toppings, either sweet or savory. They have options like cinnamon sugar, honey, or garlic salt. I went with the garlic salt one, and while it was definitely on the salty side, it had a great garlicky flavor that I liked. They also sell snow cones in different flavors, and sodas are $3 and water is $2. They also really appreciate cash payments. Service was great. Food didn't take that long to come out.

When I checked the pizza, it was clearly undercooked, so we sent it back. We expected it to come back properly cooked, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. When the pizza was brought out the second time, it was still doughy and undercooked. I took photos of it, and they show multiple different slices--all of which had the same raw, gummy texture across the entire slice. This was not just one bad piece. Because of this, we didn't even get a chance to actually eat the pizza. That was our dinner, and we ended up leaving without being able to eat it. What made the situation worse was how it was handled. The manager insisted it was "ranch sauce" and claimed the pizza was cooked thoroughly, which is simply not accurate based on both the texture and appearance. I was also told I was the only person to complain, as if that somehow made the issue invalid. Regardless, we were served undercooked food--twice. They offered a $5 discount on a $21 pizza that we couldn't even eat, which did not feel like a fair resolution. Very disappointing experience overall--not just because of the food, but because the issue was dismissed instead of taken seriously.

When we arrived at 6:30p the parking lot was packed - and on a Wednesday! We waited for about 20 minutes and then were seated. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip, which is served with warm baguette slices - perfection. For entrees we had the meatball linguine and the chicken Parmesan- meatballs are house- made and were so flavorful, chicken on the parm was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Entrees are served with a side salad and their ranch was to die for- so thick and creamy. For dessert we had the chocolate gelato, which was the cherry on top of the meal. Yum! The place stayed busy until we left around 8 - a big party was waiting to be sat. The staff are very hard workers - they were busting their butts all over the restaurant for the duration of our meal. Our server (we didn't get his name, unfortunately) was wonderful. Highly recommend, and if we're ever back in Gallup, we'll definitely grab another meal here!

I figured if they're happy back there then I shouldn't worry about what comes out. I wasn't greeted with chips and salsa which was a surprise, seeing how it's a staple at every Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. So that was a bummer. You would think that nice salty chips and spicy salsa would pair well with a cold beer. It would make you thirsty for another thus adding to their bottom line. It's probably for the best after that salty mess last night at the Garage restaurant in Oklahoma. I still feel like Lot's wife after she looked back at Sodom and Gomorrah. My bubbly server took my order of a beer and a Mexicali hamburger steak (closest thing to meatloaf that I could get). It came to my table piping hot. My steak was covered in chopped green chilis, and was extremely delicious. The beans and rice were standard, so no woop there. Panz Alegra was pretty busy on this Saturday night. You can sit in the bar area, or the regular restaurant. The bar was a hoppin', while where I was seated was pretty tame. Unless you consider the exuberant busboy dancing his way to tables entertaining. He made me a bit nervous. The guy was one misstep away from adding more dishes to my table than I was comfortable with. Ricky Martin he was not. You can't go wrong with Panz. You can get better, but who wants to drive all the way to Las Cruces. Quick Tip: This place boasts American-Mexican-Italian food on its menu. Interesting. I never would have thought that American food would find its way on the menu. Oh, from the outside, the restaurant looks abandoned. One of many relics you can find along Route 66. But don't be deterred. There's people inside, dancing and otherwise.

The Chile Releno was reallly good and had a lot of flavor to it. The tacos were pretty basic and the rice was good. My meal came with a large folded flour tortilla with a butter pad that confused me. The menu was expansive and some of the burgers that passed by me looked really good. They touted a sign that said an best authentic mexican food award, but really its tex-mex.
