NOISY, at least where I was put. Right by the kitchen. I could have asked to be moved, but I was enjoying the Mexican music blaring where the cooks were. I figured if they're happy back there then I shouldn't worry about what comes out. I wasn't greeted with chips and salsa which was a surprise, seeing how it's a staple at every Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. So that was a bummer. You would think that nice salty chips and spicy salsa would pair well with a cold beer. It would make you thirsty for another thus adding to their bottom line. It's probably for the best after that salty mess last night at the Garage restaurant in Oklahoma. I still feel like Lot's wife after she looked back at Sodom and Gomorrah. My bubbly server took my order of a beer and a Mexicali hamburger steak (closest thing to meatloaf that I could get). It came to my table piping hot. My steak was covered in chopped green chilis, and was extremely delicious. The beans and rice were standard, so no woop there. Panz Alegra was pretty busy on this Saturday night. You can sit in the bar area, or the regular restaurant. The bar was a hoppin', while where I was seated was pretty tame. Unless you consider the exuberant busboy dancing his way to tables entertaining. He made me a bit nervous. The guy was one misstep away from adding more dishes to my table than I was comfortable with. Ricky Martin he was not. You can't go wrong with Panz. You can get better, but who wants to drive all the way to Las Cruces. Quick Tip: This place boasts American-Mexican-Italian food on its menu. Interesting. I never would have thought that American food would find its way on the menu. Oh, from the outside, the restaurant looks abandoned. One of many relics you can find along Route 66. Panz Alegra was a fun experience. I didnt know what to expect going in, they apparently have a bar and a restaurant area. I was in the restaurant side. The service was ok, good in terms of attentiveness, they were swamped and there was a wait to get in anways. Food came out pretty slow but then I am not sure if they are usually completely full. The Chile Releno was reallly good and had a lot of flavor to it. The tacos were pretty basic and the rice was good. My meal came with a large folded flour tortilla with a butter pad that confused me. The menu was expansive and some of the burgers that passed by me looked really good. They touted a sign that said an best authentic mexican food award, but really its tex-mex. Ill go again for sure try more and update. read more

Have to say, the special they have on Wednesdays, they really need to think about it more. I was not aware that a 1/2 a chicken was 2 pieces and 1/4 is one piece of chicken???!!! I was told that because the way they cut the chicken, 2 pieces is a half and 1 piece is one fourth. I'm like.....WHAT???? The pieces are the same just as they would fry them. Having been a cook for so many years, I know that there are 4 pieces on one side of a chicken: Leg, thigh, breast, wing. So a whole chicken is 8 pieces, 1/2 is 4 & 1/4 is 2. Whether you broil, fry or bake, the pieces are the same. Panz is charging too much, I can go to KFC, Churches, or Popeye and get more for the same price. You will not get the right amount of chicken. read more

I have been on a roll with trying out different Mexican restaurants in Gallup, I was recently told about Panz Alegra and thought that i'd give it a try. I was greeted by welcoming customer service. After I ordered the chicken enchilada combo w/ green chile. The salsa and chips came out and were okay, the salsa tasted as though it came from a can & the chips were a little too crispy. My enchiladas came out and they were delicious! The green chile was nice and fresh, and the refried beans were cooked to perfection, in addition to the spanish rice being very tasty also. The food was good, but I think that you should be getting much more in terms of portions for the price that you are paying. read more

It's been awhile since I've been here and I'm a local!! Service was okay, we didn't need much service after we ordered. Food was good but my red chili sauce was not hot at all nor did it have a spice! Upsetting. I had a stuffed sopilla with red chili and extra cheese and onions. I read on the comments to help me decide what to order for myself and I went with the stuffed sopilla. I read that it was good enough for two people but when I got my plate it was just enough for one person. As authentic as it looks from the outside and their "Best Authentic Mexican Food 2018" award it kinda fell short. The service was great, quick and very attentive. I am a chips and salsa girl, but the salsa was great but the chips were tough and had no flavor. Our entrees were out quickly but my beef taco and beef enchilada had dry beef that had no seasoning almost boiled. The beans need to be cooked longer some bites were tough. I didn't finish my meal, so I tried to enjoy my margarita but that fell flat on its face as well. It tasted like lemon lime Gatorade with a splash of tequila. The three stars was for exceptional people and service but the food needs to be re-evaluated. read more

Nothing exciting about this place. We were not greeted at the door. We sat in the dining area. The tables were clean but the chairs had food stains. It was very dim, but the area is filled with mirrors in attempt to increase light, however, it just felt like a mirror maze. The service was eh our waitress came over occasionally. The food presentation was sloppy. We ordered spaghetti and meatballs. The spaghetti noodles were horrible! Noodles were not strained. They sat in water with sauce on top. We also ordered shrimp fajitas. It came with 5 shrimp, a bell pepper, and skimpy onions. We ordered top shelf margaritas and got a chemical laced Cuervo 1800 and Gran Marnier iced sweet and sour, heartburn city. We sent them back and ordered beer in bottles. The service was kind and almost attentive. The tortilla chips were little chewy, instead of crunchy. The red chile was good and mild. The green chile was spicy hot with almost decent flavor. We ordered the 2 most popular plates, steak and enchilada special and the stuffed sopapilla. Both were edible. I would suggest getting a couple of fried eggs on top of the Mexican style plates. There is a nice air conditioned bar with horrible music to take refuge from the hot desert southwestern sun. But order the beer in bottles and not the mixed drinks. Bottom line: it costs too much for what you get. Try Jerry's, El Metate, or Sammy C's for a more satisfying meal. read more

First the service wasn't that great Second we got sat by kitchen so everytime the kitchen door opened our server was just standing there, can we get some damn service. Food was simple, good NM style. The stuffed sopapilla was big enough for 2 people. Sopapilla was thick, more like fry bread (not a bad thing) stuffed with beans, ground beef, and guacamole. I've never had guac in this dish and it was great. I got Xmas style (covered in both red and green chile). Both are good and I liked the red better. One of the worst meals I've ever eaten. They seat us, hostes was very nice, and then promptly forgot us. This young kid comes over to ask if we've been helped and takes our order. My friend and i both get the combo player. The relleno was swimming in liquid so it was soggy, wet and inedible. The rest was also soft and tasteless. The guacamole was slightly brown, not freshly made and tasted like it came from one of the pre made containers from the supermarket. I couldn't eat it and for $4 that was a big loss. I never would have anticipated the Italian options on the menu to be as delectable as the lasagna was. The sauce, to me was just perfect and the portion size was enough to take home for lunch the next day. My husband had the Standard burger and fries and said that was pretty tasty as well. Worst service I have ever received! I went to Panz Alegra for a retirement dinner. The server spilled a plate of food all over a woman at our table and all over my jacket and my Michael Kors purse. She didn't even apologize! I asked to speak to a manager and the women behind the front counter refused to help. She threatened to call the police when I kept asking to speak to a manager. She and two other women made fun of me and the damage to my purse. They were so rude and mean and were complete jerks. Such a low-class restaurant that doesn't care about customer service. Don't waste your time going here if you want quality food and good service because you will not find it. read more
