Stepping into Dearness Gardens is like stepping into a fairytale land. I had often driven past here to and from work while living in Cornelius and wanted to check it out. When I finally did I was pretty blown away. The first two-thirds of the layout here are best enjoyed with a slow walk in the evening or morning. Have a look over all the decorative plants perfect for any backyard setting you may be planning. Want a pond? They've got one for inspiration. Want stone lanterns, busts and statuettes? They've got 'em. There's also an indoor shop with more decor related items like wind-chimes, wall-hangings and what-nots. My favorite spot would have to be right around the little hut. It sits about halfway back into the gardens right beside the pond. I believe it's more-or-less home to a separate sort of consignment shop. It wasn't open when I visited but it was a pleasant spot simply to be in. Are you wandering around Davidson-Cornelius-Huntersville and looking for the next spot to enjoy a slow finish to the day with your date? I'd suggest dropping in here. read more

I stopped by this place a few months ago and really enjoyed just walking around and exploring the grounds. It's a massive property with plants, trees and herbs all throughout. It's beautiful and they had some really nice things on display and for sale. They even had a dream plant of mine. It was a bit pricey here to me, compared to other local spots but it was nice to walk around. I was surprised I didn't buy anything but I had so much fun checking them out. The staff wasn't the most helpful or friendly but that didn't bother me. I was there for the plants. read more

I have been to this location two times, different times of the year and different years. First time was years ago when it was fall/cooler weather and it was beautiful. I think I had my dog with me and it was such an experience! Everything was lush and healthy. The second time I went was early August 2025, and maybe it was just the end of the season/waiting for new plants, but at least 60% of the plants were dead/fried from the sun. I was kind of shocked, as if someone forgot to water those plants for a couple weeks? You would touch a plant and the leaves would crumble. Maybe they didn't care because new stock was coming in? It was bizarre. The only healthy plants were the trees and shaded plants. A lot of the plant pots had more weeds than the actual plant. Will give it another try when it cools down, maybe it was just a fluke when I went? I hope so, I loved it the first time I went. read more

I went to Dearness looking for help with my landscapingcaping issues because I've always enjoyed wandering around and enjoying all the plants. I paid $100 for Pam to and help me with a plan. However, when she came up with a plan and I asked her to share it with me she said that would be another $100.00. Not sure why I would agree with her plan without knowing what it was. She could have included my least favorite plants or my all-time favorite plants, how was I to know? I felt flim flammed. read more

There is an enchanted feeling about this place. I visited in search of fallen pots, which I did not find. Still I enjoyed browsing around, checking out the selection. There are so many adorable items. In addition to yard/garden decor plants/flowers/trees/seeds are also available for purchase. Parking is located on each side of the display lot. I would recommend wearing rain boots (or shoes that you are not particular about. There is no concrete walk path so at times you may encounter mud/water. Still, I enjoyed the rustic style here. Most items are displayed outdoors, but there are at least 2 sheds and an actual house on-site which contain smaller/delicate items. I did not directly encounter much staff/notice staff around aside from someone tending one of the sheds. Although I did not purchase anything today I definitely plan to return when I am ready to add to the landscaping of my yard. read more

I finally stopped in to visit on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Let me start by saying the staff are great and helped me with my questions. There are so many plants and shrubs to see...big ones and small ones! You need to allow enough time to take it all in. You'll need time to sniff everything. If you are into gardening or simply want to step up your curb appeal, stop in to visit Dearness Gardens and enjoy all there is to see. I found the plant prices to be comparable but the accessories (pots) were a bit steep. I left with some fragrant lavender plants. read more

Purchased 10 trees which was planted by Dearness staff. The trees all struggled to live and I returned for the 50% refund due me for the dead trees. I was told I had to buy more trees in order for the guarantee to be fulfilled. Not..just .lost $1800 on dead trees and they wanted me to spend another $750 to committ to their warranty. Also said I re dived a landscape discount that I knew nothing about. I am not a landscaper..if I were I would have put the trees in myself..Shady Place.. read more

"Deadness Gardens" should be the new name, and new motto to fit, take your money once, then twice with new warranty which was not once told to us. Buyers beware and run away! Go anywhere else, I beg you and warn you! They will take your money not warranty anything they don't plant, first round of plants bought two extra died in days but we planted told too bad. Yes, really and staff got mouthy about how the warranty is and was stated on the receipt, who reads that? No one, and why not tell your customers up front? Well, if they did no one would go. For the other eight trees we bought over $1,600+ spent for it all, they never called to schedule the install and that's when it really started . To learn about that warranty not being there for plants we plant. I had to wait till the following week and no call. Called, left multiple messages, nothing. Crickets. Had to drive down on a weekend, got attitude for me asking when will I get a call on my plants I purchased and to be installed. Finally got a call the following week mid week, told then would have to wait 3 to 4 weeks. My wife and I were told have in the following week no issue. As if not I would gladly do my self and save a ton... Plants got installed, looked like crap at time of install. Told they should be fine, water them every 3 days they said. Was kind and polite gave water to all the installers and as they completed the job one of the girl workers takes her shoes off on my porch and goes can I use your bathroom and starts walking inside my house, well guess so you are already in my house. While she is coughing and seems sick too mind you. Again, told to monitor and watch them as I did and watered correctly with WiFi timer following their reccomendations. Well, of course died as not healthy from start. Lied to on install timeline, lied to on the cost to install and then told sorry but 50% only and have to buy again from them? Wait sounds like a scam right? Forced to do business there after treated like crap? In order for me to get new ones had to pay for 4 new trees, after multiple messages left, no response, had to yet again go there. I paid to get the trees as was not leaving without something, ripped my dead trees out, shovel didn't really need to be used as they never took and are dead. After fighting got a whole 75% off... which sadly a worker faught for us to even get as she felt bad. So went home pulled plants out by hand first one attempted a shovel, but didn't need they were dead and never took. My 8 trees were again, installed and planted by Deadness Gardens. But got treated like we were lessor people and talked down to. My wife and I then tossed them on the truck and let them see, no one cared. Honestly, staff seemed to expect it and didn't seem surprised. Summary, avoid them and don't waste your money! Also, take note to the pictures all trees watered and treated the same in different areas where 4 out of the 8 died. My suggestions to Deadness Gardens, treat people with respect and maybe the planting business is not for you. read more

As someone who loves native plants because they are so good for our pollinators as well as beautiful, Dearness Gardens does not disappoint! They are extremely knowledgeable about native plants and they have a wide variety of plants including larger size plants that are hard to find at other nurseries. A bit of a drive to get there from Charlotte but so worth it! read more

I am taking them to court for not adhering to their policy and selling a bad batch of trees. The policy on the brochure is different from the one on the receipt. I am willing to add you to the lawsuit at no charge. Something needs to happen when establishments choose choices to treat their customers after making purchases like the dirt that they sell. read more

Great selection. A little pricey though. What a wonderful place to walk around. Beautiful layout with a wide variety of plants. That said, this isn't the place to go find 3 packs of tomatoes for 1.75 for your spring garden. A lot of the plant and herb starts were $4.50 a piece. They stay busy though, so customer service, location, and variety must be their niche. read more

Dearness Gardens is cool! There are so many different facets of this garden shop. Parking is good...there's a nice gravel lot adjacent to the cute garden gift shop. Speaking of the gift shop...they sell all sorts of whimsicle garden stuff, candles that were hard not to notice. But they also had practical stuff like bird books and windchimes (my fav). This place is huge! They have shrubs, smaller ornamental trees, larger shade trees and lawn sculptures. There's a gentleman by the name of Morrie who is really nice and offers to answer questions. Great place to find stuff to liven up your yard for spring. Pricing was comparable...slightly higher to other gardening shops that I've reviewed. read more

Great selection of plants and suck a friendly staff. They will help you if you need it and leave you alone if you want! It is very nice to come here with such an inviting atmosphere. There is a yard cat that lives here which is also quite nice to see. Back to the plants, there is a great selection and they are willing to get anything for you if they don't have it. Yard is quite big and a little hilly so bring some boots if you're going to be here a while. They have a nice little indoor section for house plants as well as succulents. And there is always inside the main house which has even more houseplants! read more

My husband And I moved here from California and found Dearness Gardens near our daughter, so we thought we would go visit. We bought a house in a new development and needed some trees and shrubs. We spent over $1000 on trees and a couple shrubs which they were happy to sell us. Part of our reason for buying there is their guarantee. We also paid them about $500 to have them plant everything we purchased to save my husbands back AND this increased the warranty on them. We explained when we purchased I did not want any fruit bearing trees. Even fruitless plums have little mini plums. I explained I don't want the mess or my dog eating them. So, one of the trees they sold me was a fruitless weeping peach tree. We have small peaches the size of a fifty cent piece all over the grass. Plus when they planted it the whole canopy of the tree was hanging to one side and the tree wouldn't stand up so they had to tie it up. I told them I didn't like that and asked if it would eventually straighten up. They said yes. Anyway, that tree became very unhealthy early on. I put in phone call after phone call with no return calls. I finally got angry and told them I was going to post on social media if this was not addressed ASAP. FINALLY a man came out who I'm assuming was the owner or manager. Said tree looked good and to only water it once a week. It did not look good even neighbors were commenting. I also explained I specifically asked for NO FRUIT OF ANY KIND on any of my 5 trees. He said he'd talk to the sales person about it. Plus a Gingko Chi Chi tree we bought had shifted in the whole and was now leaning onto our fence. My husband tied it back and we explained it needed to be dug up and replanted. He said he'd send his guys out and would check back with me in a week on the peach tree. It's been months and nothing. Peach tree is very unhealthy and leaning and chi chi still needs to be dug up and replanted. Once they get your money they're done with you. I was warned by one person not to shop there. I should have listened. Will never shop there again. Our new development is very aware of our situation and will not shop there either. read more

I keep trying to enjoy this place for it is local and family run but I always leave disappointed. There are some pretty areas to get ideas but that is the extent of the positive. I have yet to meet a friendly employee, they seem irritated with customers and have more than once overheard them hoping for rain so they can "close early". They talk more amongst themselves than to guests. When inquiring about certain products I have gotten the response "we can't make any money off those so we don't sell it". The other main down fall is the prices are double that for Lowe's or Home Depot, which I would consider spending periodically to support local business if the staff was helpful and welcoming. It's the closes landscaping, garden center near us but I wish there were more. It's not so much the selection, it's just that when we have a question or need assistance that it's hard to find anyone. We have bought plants and shrubs here before but don't go in with high expectations, you'll be disappointed too. What a beautiful place! Several of us artists spent the day painting in this lovely area! The landscaping was arranged with great detail and care! My wife and I are new to the area and stopped into this place hoping to find a local lawn and garden center to use as we started sprucing up our new home. The facilities are large and can be somewhat daunting and the maps that are provided are of little help. When we approached some staff about certain plants, we were told where to look and sent on our way. When we returned with more questions, as obvious novices, we were again pointed in a direction and told to go. Multiple staff members were pretty unwilling to move from their hut and walk us through the selection. It was quite off-putting as first time customers as we felt like we were disturbing the staff with questions. While the grounds are large and the section is pretty good, the staff were enough to keep us away for good. read more

Each time that I have come in, Logan has always been extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and excited to help me find plants that work for me (I preferred plants that needed little care) -- she has picked out beautiful plants for me each time and they are all thriving. I've never experienced a business that clearly does not need me as a customer. Three years ago we had them do some landscaping, which turned out great but took several weeks to get the call back to schedule the consultation. I thought it was because they were in their busy season of spring. I need to have some additional work done in my backyard, including consultation on the death of one of the trees they had installed. I called 4 weeks ago to get a consultation scheduled and was told Terry would give me a call. Last week, no call, so I called them back. No apologies but just told Terry was really busy but would be given another message to call me because "the squeaky wheel, you know." A week later, I'm left having been called the "squeaky wheel" and still no return call. Time to find a different provider. read more

Had such a pleasant experience today while picking out plants for my mother in law! The staff could not have been friendlier both while my son and I were looking around and while checking out. What a gem Dearness Gardens is. It's so much more than a place to go to pick up some plants. From the moment you get out of your car in the gravel parking lot and begin to wander down the paths you just feel like you've entered a different world. It's more like walking through a park than anything else, but a park where you can find something that catches your eye, buy it and take it home with you. As others have mentioned, the variety and selection is outstanding; water features, natives plants, shrubs, trees, herbs; everything. And it's not just the great variety and presentation. Its's the staff. There are plenty of places to buy plants, even if they lack the feel of Dearness, but even then they wouldn't have the staff to match these folks. They are so friendly, willing to help but not in your face while you are browsing. And so knowledgeable too. It's about a fifteen minute drive for me to get there but I'd drive further if I needed to. It's definitely worth the visit. You won't be disappointed. read more
