Went in and had a consult with Enrique as this was the first tattoo my daughters and I were getting and wanted to feel comfortable with the shop and staff. Enrique was fantastic, made us feel confident with his knowledge and for us to move forward to book our appointment. Arrived the next afternoon and went over the artwork and placement which was a great success! The vibe at the shop was welcoming and easy going, just what's needed for us first timers. Best damn tattoo parlour! There is so much to say so let me break it down: Atmosphere: Part of the experience of getting a tattoo is the atmosphere. Not only is this place extremely clean but it has the feel of a true vintage WW2 Era tattoo parlour. Other artists: Every artists in that building is a master of their craft. When they weren't tattooing they were drawing or doing something productive to perfect their craft....not moping around the building complaining about a piece they don't want to do. Mike Mehaffey as an artist: Aside from the fact that this was my first tattoo from Mike...I researched my artists (as most should do) to get a piece I have been wanting for years but couldn't find the right artist for. Mike corresponded back and forth with me over email and then made several revisions that I wanted showing me the same interest as he did when I first approached him. When sitting down to get the tattoo Mike did more prep work to his equipment than I have ever seen anyone do...and I'm pretty industry educated. If I'm going to carry something for life...and it's not an STD....jk.....Mike set the standard for whom I'm willing to work with....and in my case moving forward it will only be Mike because my tattoo is flawless! Mike as a business owner: Every shop that I have been to in Florida Tattoo, Retail, Restaurant.....whatever can take a lesson from this place. Every artist and person in this place has a goal of providing the best product with the best customer service based on a standard set by Mike. This place is ran like a true Business where the customer is first. I'm a business owner and I'm quite the jerk about what I expect. In Summary: Other than my first piece of art from Death or Glory I have never met Mike...I'm not his long lost cousin giving him a great review. It's 6:20 am and I can't sleep so rather listen to my wife complain about me turning in bed I figure I would sit in my living room and give someone the credit they have earned. I had a tattoo once. It looked like a ten year old's hand-drawn science project, and was done by a couple in Detroit. The work was done in their home, because they were under house arrest. They charged me $200. For the same price, you can go to Death or Glory and get a professional, clean, painstakingly beautiful piece of art. Lee did an incredible job on the tattoo in question and is in all respects an artist. He has my complete confidence. I am under the impression that his work is worth a lot more than he charges (though I'm not saying the tattoos are cheap). read more

My first tattoo was at BT in Gainesville, FL. I was less than happy with their customer service and the artist took a meal break in the middle of working. I vowed to find a quality place for my next tattoo so I asked around. I received a lot of recommendations but almost all agreed that Mike at Death or Glory was the man to do the large winged lion I wanted. I went in with multiple picture for my idea and he perfectly integrated all the concepts. I just got finished having him do my other shoulder with a dragon around the Celtic cross I already had. I travelled from Tallahassee just yesterday to get my tattoo with katie after she had a last-minute cancellation. Let me just say it was totally worth the 2.5 hour drive. Death or Glory is owned by some of my favorite dudes in town. As a lifetime resident of Gainesville, and having now been getting tattooed for over a decade, I can attest to the solid work these men AND lady put out! I have well over 30 hours of work done by the tattooers in this shop on myself, including by Kristyn, Lee, Mike and Rob, who did my first tattoo back in '04.This crew genuinely cares about their clients and the work they put out. With circulating guest artists there is always a chance to be tattooed by someone great in this community who you might not get a chance to! The shop is clean, the hand-painted signage on the windows is authentic, and the flash is classic. No TVs, no awful radio. Just good conversation and great books to leaf through. Whether you are just dabbling with the idea of a tattoo or getting ready to sit for a few hours, this diverse crew of honest artists is where I go. I sincerely love all of the wok I have done by this crew that I consider great friends. Being able to grab a locally made sandwich and craft soda right next door at pop-a-top (another local joint) is also a major plus when considering staying hydrated and fed for the sit! Just got tattooed last night by Katie Ryan. It was my second tattoo, and I have to say that this is my favorite tattoo shop. From the moment my sister and I walked in, we were immediately greeted with a smile and a welcoming energy. Katie had drawn my tattoo out prior (emailing her helps, she gets busy bc she's way talented!) and it was exactly what I was imagining. I had no idea where I wanted it, if I wanted color or just line work, so she helped me figure those aspects out with no push for the more pricey option. She ended up spending about an hour and a half on my tattoo, but was more than accommodating with breaks as I needed them. She talked to us the whole time and was extremely patient with my sister- it's hard for her to sit still, and she had too for about 2 hours. I noticed how clean everyone was as well (always a plus). Honestly, don't think twice. Go to death or glory. They're more than accommodating, funny, open to challenges. I think they truly enjoy talking with their clients to get exactly what they are looking for. And I left with a free aftercare kit; some shea butter cream, sticker and instructions. read more

The tattoos are great, they take their time with it and make it really custom. They care about your happiness.
