The morning I realized just how much I was paying in interest, I knew I had to do something. The credit bills had piled up after a job loss, and even though I was trying to fulfill my end of the bargain we just seemed to be going deeper in debt. Bankruptcy was out, so where do you turn? There are plenty of high priced services that claim they can "negotiate" a reduction in your debt. When I started looking at them, I ran into one service after another that wanted me to stop paying my bills to force my creditors to drop my balance. They claimed it was a standard practice, but it seemed wrong to me. Plus I could just imagine it screwing up my credit for years to come. Then I found DebtWave. Since I already had a habit of keeping all my accounts on a spreadsheet (including the last four of the account and current balance) most of the info I needed was on hand. I had to seriously consider what I could afford, and how many of my cards I really needed (one for gas and one for emergencies?), but once I got passed that it was easy. A few calls and next thing you know my interest rates were lowered an average of 2/3rds (one down to ZERO%!) and a plan was set in motion to clear all those accounts in just a few years. I joined DebtWave in late 2020. My credit counselor was very honest with me about what she could and couldn't do for me. Before DebtWave I was transferring balances from one CC to another to take advantage of the 0% interest rates and then all those offers dried up and I knew I'd be paying a huge amount towards interest instead of the balance. DebtWave was able to negotiate down the interest rates, from an average of 18% down to 9%. I had to close the credit cards, but I didn't care much about that as long as I kept my oldest credit card active, which I did. You don't have to include all your cards, just the ones you want. My other goal was to increase my credit score. One year after using DebtWave my credit score went from 670 to 740, which is exactly what I was hoping to achieve. I was looking for debt consolidation loans when I came across Debtwave. What they did for me instead was negotiated MUCH lower interest rates for all my credit cards, from around 22% down to UNDER 7%. Then I make 1 monthly payment to them and they disburse it to my credit card companies. My credit has gone up over 100 points since starting with them and if I needed to again I would pick them. They have helped me so much. I was originally paying $500/month towards credit cards and only about $160 was going towards principal. Now I have a $340/month payment and just under $300 of it is going to principal. This program has been a life saver. DebtWave Credit Counseling saves my wife and I. There's no other way of putting it. My wife and I are both on Social Security disability, our daughter suffered a tragedy at one of her job and became unemployed we had to take over her bills and later down the road when she got better we helped her get into create a new job being self-employed. We did what any parent would do, you're always going to help your children you're always going to do whatever you can. No matter how old they are. Unfortunately, this put my wife and I in a very uncomfortable place, you have a set income on Social Security really not much I can do about that. I have been with DebtWave 18 months. I was a lot skeptical at first about the program, but knew I had to do something to recover and get my finances in order. There has not been many bumps. Only frustration I encountered was that some dates do not coincide with my pay date. However, they have a remarkable team of credit coaches there that will work with you as needed. This company has saved me so much heart-ache and gave me so much hope again. When I first heard of them, it was on a radio ad and I was so depressed from my financial struggles. I am documenting a total failure of service regarding a debt management attempt with Chase. After paying an initial enrollment fee of approximately $90, this agency generated over 30 emails without securing a stable resolution. The primary issue is a lack of administrative control. I was explicitly informed by DebtWave that Chase had accepted my contract, yet that agreement failed to materialize on three separate occasions following that confirmation. Utilizing a professional service is intended to provide stability and clear communication; instead, this process resulted in redundant correspondence and inconsistent updates regarding creditor acceptance. I truly love this service... They lowered my interest rate on multiple credit cards and they take the money right out of my checking acct ea month. Their website is terrific and you can watch your balances go down significantly every month, particularly after the 1st year. I don't think or know if I would have ever been able to resolve my debt problem with these c.c. companies and DebtWave says it should be gone in 3 yrs. I'm a few months into my 2nd year.
