The receptionist was on the phone with another patient when I arrived, but she looked up, smiled warmly, and acknowledged me right away. That simple gesture made me feel welcome. Within about two minutes, I was already being taken back for my appointment. The entire staff was professional, kind, and attentive throughout my visit. As someone who was traumatized by dental experiences as a child, going to the dentist has not always been easy for me. Because of that, I especially appreciate a dental team that understands how important comfort and compassion can be. This office has created an environment that feels safe, calming, and genuinely caring. I've never felt so genuinely seen, respected, and cared for by a healthcare provider. Dr. Stephanie Teichmiller and her team (all female) are all exceptionally friendly and kind. After I did a mobile check-in for my appointment, a patient advocate greeted me, gave me a tour of the office, and talked me through what to expect. They offered drinks, showed me where the bathroom was, and made sure I was comfortable. As part of the initial consult, Dr. Teichmiller sat with me in a private office where she asked about my concerns, my goals,and medically relevant information. I came in very anxious and overwhelmed but Dr. Teichmiller and the rest of the staff were very gentle and explained everything in simple, non-patronizing language. I left with a full treatment plan and somewhat excited for my follow-up appointment. I highly recommend them if you have dental anxiety or medical trauma in general. It is getting more and more difficult to find truly excellent care and service in any business, but you will find it at Decatur Smiles. The environment is pleasant and comfortable. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Teichmiller, who also teaches dentistry at UAB, is always up on the latest research and is caring and through. In the years that I have been going to Decatur Smiles, I have never been kept waiting more than five minutes. All of the hygienists I have worked with have been proficient and professional.
