The area is quite beautiful as mentioned by other reviewers and the photos. However, stick to the less traveled areas such as the trails near Rosario Beach. We went to Cranberry Lake (non-motorized boats + swimming) within the State Park. It was packed on the beach and about a dozen people had rented paddle boats, kayaks, and canoes. Not the peaceful swimming/canoeing spot we'd hoped for. read more

Deception Pass State Park is beautiful! When we found out we had accidentally made reservations for the wrong weekend at another park, they directed us to Deception Pass' overflow camping. We got the last spot on a busy weekend - phew! For overflow camping, it was pretty decent, but next time we'll stay in the park. There are so many camp sites there and it is such a beautiful setting in the forest by the ocean. A great place to walk and hike with our dog. We'll definitely be back! read more

We went camping here at the Bowman Bay. The campsite we had wasn't private feeling, but it was still a great time had by all. We will definitely come back here. The hikes are really beautiful with breathtaking views. One hike took us to tide pools, another to a private cove. We saw all kinds of wildlife. Seals, bunnies, squirrels, bald eagles, and tons of other birds. At night, you hear the waves. Loved it! read more

Strange park in early September. Great views for sure and black berry picking in late August along Cranberry Lake, but has it's drawbacks. Most reviews are day trips on the weekend and none seem to discuss camping overnight at the state park. Some campers have their dog off leash and seem to avoid the heavy fine for doing so as the rangers don't check on the campers much at all. I don't suggest staying at campsite 78 as it is a very long walk to the bathrooms. We caught a thief in our campsite who said he was "lost" after we both did the long walk to the bathroom. Bathroom was well maintained and has showers if you buy tokens. I guess the shower machine got broken into too often when cash was used for showers. The sad part was the air force base next to the state park. All day Friday the planes screamed overhead. I would suggest getting to the state park around 8pm on Friday and leaving Sunday for a quiet experience of hiking and beach combing. Lots of drift wood is here for making forts. Saw a dead sting ray on the beach and two garter snakes in the sandy forest area strip between Cranberry Lake and the Puget Sound. There were a few chipmunks and some other tiny finches hopping around. The amphitheater is brand new and so the rangers hold educational talks there at North Beach on the weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day. So we missed the talks as they don't do them the rest of the year. There is a good tiny gift shop in the ranger park check-in shack entering the park. Be sure to reserve a space in Feb or March to get a Bowman area campsite which is further from the rangers, but is further from the air force base planes. They do take off Sat and Sun, but only for actual missions and they only practice on weekdays. The best part of the hikes was seeing tiny birds bathe in a rock puddle after it rained and seeing great stars on the way back to the campsite. read more

It was fun! The time i went was 4th of july weekend, and there was a carnival going on. Very festive and complimented the beach well.

Great spot to check out the water. Lots of kids running around and parking is always easy.

Beautiful is the word i would use. I have lived here most of my life, and i still get my breath taken away from the beauty that we have in out State. I have camped here several times a lot in my early years in the tent. My kids tease us and say "your not camping in that trailer" i just laugh and say you just wait. I do wish they had more of a selection for the disabled though. I think its like two per camp level if that and alsoj when your at the beach you have to walk a little ways to get to rest room, so us older people sure can't hold it. Ohhh the fun getting old lol. When we have out of town visitors we always tell them we have to take them to Deception Pass and not one has ever been disappointed. I love the camp sites also just beautiful. I always pay the extra $5.00 for the up keep, it is so worth it to have a place well kept. See ya all, hope to see you this summer. read more

I went here for a holiday weekend and saw amazing sights from the bridge, it's so neat to find a place that has such beautful wilderness and also is right near the ocean, this is an excellent day trip. HOWEVER... it was terrible for camping. I was hoping to spend a semi-secluded night in a state park... tent, campfire... the whole bit. I was so disappointed that the crampgrounds... uh hmmm... I mean campground area. I felt as if I was stuffed in a tent city rather than out in nature. I suppose now that there are simply more people and more people want to get out into the wilderness, they opted to tear down more trees and cram as many sites in the area as possible. AWFUL! I would have had a more secluded camp in West Seattle at Camp Long! Right Smack dab in the CITY! Others noted a couple years ago that this had some nice secluded sites... of all the sites, we saw 3 that were secluded to the point that you had trees between your site and the neighboring site. This is the only reason I did not give 5 stars. Otherwise, I highly recommend a visit it is nothing short of gorgeous and the opportunities to enjoy many activities are great! read more

This was quite a distance away from Seattle. The drive was about 1hr and 40min away from the city and unfortunately, the scenic view going there was not as nice as it was going into Rattlesnake Park. Aside from this, once there, you're supposed to buy a parking pass if you plan to stay the whole day at the park. If you are only there to take pictures, you can park at the side of the road, just a little away from the parking lot that is right next to the Deception Pass Bridge. The person working at the info desk says it is okay to park there, but it would be a good idea to check with them about that once you're there. There are a number of restrooms within the park, and beautiful look outs. My friends and I arrived a little before noon, while the fog was still blocking most of the view. Luckily, the fog slowly began to clear and as we walked towards north beach, the fog was practically gone and we could see the entire bridge from afar. This park looks like a great place for picnics and BBQs, as there are many picnic tables found near the water. I notice that you can also reserve spots for your large group if you so desire to. Next time I visit, I'm bringing a picnic lunch! Also, take a notice to the cute little caterpillars that might be crawling on the staircases. I saw a few and they were so adorable. read more

Breathtaking. A must see if you come to Whidbey Island. The scenery is amazing, and there's plenty of places off the side of the road to park so you can really take in the view and don't have to rubber-neck around. It's stunning on a clear, sunny day! read more

We decided to camp at Deception Pass this past weekend on September 26th 2015 which just so happens was a free day to enter the park. When we arrived, there was apparently only a handful of sites left so we took one. When we found it, it was like, in the middle of all these huge RV's, hardly any trees, and just lots of rocks. So we went back and asked what else there was, checked out those sites, and settled on another one. Unlike Mt Rainer where you can find the site you want and then pay for it, Deception Pass basically assigns you a site with a steep $30+ fee. At around 430pm we set up camp, had dinner and sat around, typical stuff. All through our stay, a whole group of bikers (20-30 of them) decided they were going to camp, and would come and go multiple times. There's nothing worse than trying to enjoy nature (with the sounds of traffic in the background no less) and hearing the loud engines of these bikers on their Harley's. And it didn't stop there; this went on all through the night into the wee hours of the morning. I understand they have a right to camp there too, but some consideration and not revving your engine as you go through would have been the polite thing to do. On top of that, these bikers were partying loudly in the middle of the night at their camp sites nearby. It looked like they reserved multiple sites and were running around the woods like crazed teenagers drinking beer. Overall our campsite was pretty lame, there were a handful of decent sites at the other campgrounds in the area but they weren't worth the price. The experience at Mt Rainier and the sites themselves were much better and worth the drive, unlike Deception Pass. I would say Deception Pass might be good for a day trip and getting down to the water, but not for staying overnight. Mt. Rainier also offers a lot of hiking trails, and we didn't see any signs posted while at Deception Pass. read more
