The team of physical therapists that have helped me have been outstanding. They both have been very knowledgeable and helpful in me trying to rebuild muscles in both my shoulders to hopefully avoid two surgeries I might require. I feel that both my therapists are doing a great job on my behalf to help me reach my goals. It's refreshing to feel so completely comfortable going into a clean and well staffed physical rehabilitation facility as I've suffered with many high risk health conditions that have left my immune system compromised so it's vital to my health that they are strictly the best and cleanest facility that I can feel comfortable going to for my physical therapy. McKenzie Hospital, specifically the emergency room, was an absolutely phenomenal place to go in the…read moresituation of an emergency. The facility is clean and comfortable. The doctors were well equipped and well informed to offer the best insight and assistance during health crisis. The nurses were also incredibly helpful and kind. Well, for the most part... With such a high-prasing review, you're probably wondering why the hospital is only rated three stars. The answer is simple - a nurse named Scotlynn who single-handedly caused undue stress with her awful attitude, actions, and words. Perhaps it's a chihuahua complex, but this little girl was so unfathomably rude and negligent, you would think the care is coming out of her pocket. Every question she asked was followed up with an "enough, I don't need to hear all of that," and I have never heard of a nurse speak so loudly and with such vulgar language about patients after they would discharge. Seriously, one minute after a patient would leave she would immediately begin a tirade of "that stupid m*****f***** was so dumb, I asked his dumb a** three times and that idiot would just mumble, what a piece of s***." No, I'm not kidding. Mind you, this was said loudly and for about 15 minutes non-stop as we waited behind the curtain. Her rant would be crude by HBO standards. She was terrible at her job, too - seemingly incompetent and not very well-educated in her field. Any request asked of her after her almost hourly check-ins (on a very slow night), it would take another hour or asking another nurse to see that come to fruition. A similar circumstance occurred when she quite literally argued with not only my wife, but the doctor himself. My wife had been out of IV fluid for awhile and awaiting transfer to a large hospital for the procedure. That transfer would occur hours later, but when Scotlynn was asked for a new IV bag, she scoffed at my wife and said "you already had one, I know you don't drink that much water in a day," - which she does (breastfeeding hydration as well) - but Scotlynn went off to ask (and argue with) the doctor about it anyway. I guess she lost because she begrudgingly came back with a new bag. On a side note, the first time at McKenzie my wife was kept overnight and given non stop IV bags to flush her system. The big hospital kept her on them non-stop over four days. So why this rude little clown felt the need to question it herself and doubt the doctor was laughable. I had a question for a nurse, so I approached the desk. I saw her on the phone so went on to move to another nurse - but that wasn't before we made eye-contact. Without saying a word and with only glancing at her, she immediately snapped on me and yelled "I'm on the phone!" She has way too short of a fuse and an awful temperament. It's a good point to close with that my wife actually was in a medical crisis (pancreatitis) that led to her needing two emergency surgeries and strict medical supervision upon her transfer via ambulance. Thankfully Scotlynn ended her shift a good two hours before her transfer and a far more patient and qualified nurse eased the process. I'm sure I'm not the only person to witness her awfulness, as even the nurses who were there after her were heard criticizing her work and attitude. She easily brings a 5-star facility to a 3-star single-handedly. Perhaps she's better suited for the euthanasia department - human suffering and putting people down seems more her speed. I'm sure she would enjoy that far more than helping people.

The hospital is well staffed, with nurses and doctors commuting, from London and Chatham. A good library if you are in for a stay. A real kitchen, very good for hospital food, but terrible coffee. They work closely with Strathroy H and the London hospitals if you need extensive help. Friendly service and care, except for one young prima donna nurse practitioner. Free parking. As Michelin says, worth a side trip.

The nurse said that she and another co-nurse would make sure my parents were comfortable. More unexpectedly, the doctor who performed the procedure called me just to make sure everyone was on the same page. They ran multiple tests on him over the course of 4 hours and then waited another 3 hours before they gave him a temporary bed. Took them another 2 hours before they could decide if they wanted to admit him. He ended up being discharged at 6 am Still having breathing difficulties. That's a total of 10 1/2 hours to decide if he was going to be admitted. It was clear that they seemed short staffed on doctors in the ER. I only observed one PA, who was very good at what she did but had way too many patients to take care of. The waiting room at the ER was a zoo. Observed the following while in the waiting room for the first 7 hours: 1. One guy who was dissatisfied with how his mother was being treated stormed out with his ill mother to go to another hospital And yelling about how rude he was treated. 2. Two separate individuals vomiting and allowed to sit in the open ER waiting area rather than being attended to. One of those individuals was brought into the ER by EMS and parked unattended. He was hooked up to a IV and throwing up into a bag for hours. 3. Young couple with a sick baby sat for at least 3 hours before being seen. 4. One unruly patient threatened another ER patient because the patient fell asleep and started snoring. When you park sick people for hours on end in a waiting room...what could possibly go wrong? There was a hospital security person that heard the threats and ignored What was going on. The only thing that stopped the guy who was creating a disturbance was his wife yelling at him multiple times and separating him from the other sick patient he was threatening. 5. Waiting room bathroom was dirty with paper towels strewn all over. 6. Observed one patient approaching the front desk and asking why he hadn't been seen and stated he had been there 9 hours and would have to leave if they couldn't address his situation. 7. All in all, it was clear to me that this place was understaffed (especially by doctors) and not being ran well. It may be hit or miss depending on who is on duty. Don't believe their website that claims 4.6 out of 5 stars. Third party reviews are not good. Why the disparity? They admit on their website to editing the reviews. If you truly have an emergency, you might want to consider the Saginaw MyMichigan or Mount Pleasant location which have higher third party review ratings.

Last November 2025 I went in for CT of pelvis. The report mentioned a bowl. The report didn't…read moremention anything about the sacrum or Tarlov Cyst and the report said my body absorbed my Coyxx. What a imcompatant reading. My Coyxx was surgical removed. The report did not say anything about the sharp edge on the sacrum from where the Coyxx broke off and seperated and it was slowly carving its way out of my body everything I squatted. Nothing was mentioned about S-1 bone on bone to L-5. But let's focus on the stool that seems to be entertaining. This May 2026 I had to call 911 because my spine went completely paralyzed and I fell straight back and bashed my head onto a wood wall. My extremely fragile Lumbar thats failing was hit by several hard objects. No one seemed to be listening to me. A young man in the ambulance ride told me all people my age have back pain and fall. Im 63 and suffering from a butchered lumbar surgery at L-3,4,5 & S-1 and without any cages for support by a different hospital in 2024. No one checked my pupils for a concussion or checked my head for bleeding. They did a complete CT of my body and said nothing broken and sent me to the lobby to find a ride home. No one addressed the main reason I went there. Completely paralyzed while being conscious. Nothing in the CT said anything about my entire lumbar and entire cervical failed fusions are retrolisthesis and anterolisthesis which is deadly. No one mentioned the root of the problem with the two bone spurs on the posterior side of C-6,7 that are pushing into the dural part of the spine. The next day I had another paralyzed attack and this time I immediately got on my hands and knees to lay down so I dont cause more pernament injuries. I already have Cauda Equina Syndrome which is considered emergency surgery that no one wants to help me in Michigan. Having both multi levels of retrolisthesis and anterolisthesis at both fusions and neither fusions have bridged on the side. It's going to be a very painful death before I go completely paralyzed and I also suffer from cervical vertigo and there are two different kinds of vertigo. Mine happens when i turn my head to the left. Since both fusions are turning sideways at different directions at each end is beyond painful with horrible symptoms. This is the same hospital that misdiagnosed me in 2013 for no cord compression. I had 45% cervical cord compression with cervical mylothopy. 2 bone spurs and 2 disc inside of my spinal column. With this said, the hospital hasn't changed since 2000, it just has a new name tag.

They just leave you in a room to wait, and wait, and wait. Drive up to Alpena. You'll be glad you did... and you'll be out much faster, even with the drive. We will NEVER, EVER, come here again.

I have no reason to ever go to another hospital for help. I am always treated with respect and patience, no matter how horrible or emotional I feel. The nursing staff is really very good, as are the doctors. The rooms are all private which is a big plus for me. Housekeeping is there everyday to not only keep things clean, but to see if anything is needed from them. The staff is required to come to your room every hour to check on you, even when you haven't asked for anything. On top of all this, there is manager on each floor that is visits everyday. They work really hard to ensure their patients are comfortable and have everything they need. And there are a few things on their food menu that are actually very good ... Omlettes made to order for breakfast and yummy potroast. In addition to the pneumonias, I also had stomach cancer and lost my entire stomach and a few other organs I would have preferred keeping. After all I have been through, having a hospital like has meant so much to me. I can't change the sickness, but at least I know I can go somewhere to be taken care if so wonderfully.
