I had to pay a couple hundred $s out of pocket to do a new patient appointment to be accepted. I had my physical done 2 weeks later asking the same questions which was done as a training for his intern. When I went over my past history in my "new patient" 10 minute discussion, I disclosed that my bloodwork rides a little high for my cholesterol and that I was not on any medication for it. When I went for the bloodwork as part of my routine physical, I stated I just wanted what the physical covers for free which is what was done. Turns out, he coded my routine physical as diagnostic with a condition of having lipedema. Pretty crazy,.... given he has never treated or seem me before; nor had he ever done ANY bloodwork prior to seeing him. I fought with his biller- MACKENZIE HEALTH SYSTEM and Dr. English's office for 9 months. I had to file an appeal with BCBS who requested medical records to support that I have no such condition. Dr. English's office refused to change the billing code and diagnosis . I should be billing his office for my new patient fee plus all of the wasted hours of time I spent refusing to pay a $200 bill that inevitably was fully covered and was billed wrong in the first place. ***Note, my old dr. office always did my annual physical as a normal covered session which was always billed accordingly. MY EXPERIENCE WAS A NIGHTMARE AND I WANT TO SHARE THIS FOR ANYONE THAT CONSIDERS GOING HERE!!!!! i HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING IF THE DIAGNOSIS PAYS HIM MORE, BUT i HAVE TO WONDER IF THAT WAS THE CASE. IT SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN 9 MONTHS OF FIGHTING AND THE INVOLVEMENT OF BCBS TO GET THIS REVIEWED AND REVERSED AS MY TREATMENT WAS WITH NORMAL TREATMENT STANDARDS AND NOT FOR A DIAGNOSTIC "FAKE" CONDITION.

Fast forward a few years and I am really interested in doing a blood test to see what kind of deficiencies I have and I had no dr. to go to. Dr. Kapatais was referred to me by a friend whose referrals I trust... so I gave in and went. I honestly didn't know if she'd spend two minutes with me or even do the testing because doctors seem to always want to tell you "you're fine" and send you on your way. I know I am a pretty healthy girl, but I was really interested to see my deficiencies. Not only did Dr.K listen to me, she helped me navigate through my fear of flying, which came up randomly because she actually talks to you and helped me understand more natural and realistic ways of dealing with my health, which is what I was so excited about. I had a life threatening issue and was…read morerequired to get help from the Orlando Women's minimally invasive team when Stacy ODowd prescribed be medication to stop me from bleeding, got paid for her office visit, billed me and my insurance company a ridiculous amount to then go and stop the RX. They also withheld my medical records for weeks while trying to get emergent help elsewhere. A month after requesting my records I was finally able to be seen by a different provider and an understanding surgeon and nurse who simply asked:"Was she just wanting you to bleed out?" My only response was... I guess so. Thank God I switched health care providers. I would not recommend this or any UF health Womens center employee or provider. They could care less if you live or die.

At the beginning of the year she moved to this practice with new name Alliance Health Macomb. Her family medicine practice is with another physician in Suite 300 inside the Shelby Medical Mall. The staff here with check-in (Peggy) and check-out are very pleasant and efficient at their jobs. The lobby is very large and welcoming with wellness and sick areas to sit while waiting for my appointment. I have seen Dr. Kristen Kavanaugh every September (My Birthday Month) for a wellness check up and also in between if and when I am sick. Back on March 10th I consulted with her on the phone with a video chat about my decline in health while working at my job. She listened with great concern and attentiveness to my symptoms, then gave me some advice till my appointment at the end of March plus an inflammation medication for 4 months. Her Education and Knowledge makes Me very comfortable when she listens and communicates to Me in a timely manner, not rushed with my appointment. We discuss my health issues and treatments or suggestions within strict confidence. She demonstrates Comprehensive Care in a Personal Way! So I was having day and night pain in hands, legs, low back and neck for about two months from February to March while working a housekeeping job. During my 1st appointment on March 24th she examined my swollen hands and legs. She referred Me to visit the Henry Ford Medical Center on Hall Rd to have Ex-rays of back, legs and hands plus bloodwork to determine my diagnosis which was true as she thought. She even followed up with Me after my tests by phone and messaging Me in My Chart online before my follow up appointment on April 17. I am pleased that Dr. Kavanagh along with my other three medical doctors are affiliated with Henry Ford Health plus use this App to connect with patients and myself called "My Chart!" When I receive an email from Henry Ford Health, I can connect in My Chart to receive a message from her, make appointments, view test results, message her back, get refills on prescriptions, and also Henry Ford Billing is connected in it as well. It is an Awesome health feature for Me as a patient. No more phone calls or waiting on hold or please leave a message.... Dr. Kavanagh specializes in Family Medicine and Services Primary Care. Her residence is at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. She is very understanding, personable with compassionate. She uses her medical professionalism in a helpful way with suggestions and solutions to improve my health whether with urgent or non-urgent visits.
