Visiting London from Chicago and of COURSE we had to try some of the town's famous East…read moreIndian-Pakistani cuisine, but friends' recommendations were all for high-end and/or chain places. So we did some research. Somewhere along the line we found Meraz written up as one of the 12 best Indian restaurants in England. Okay, so we trek over to the East End (pretty wild neighborhood that we enjoyed) for dinner at Meraz. My husband was disappointed not to find a particular dish on the menu, but the waiter didn't hesitate to offer to have the kitchen whip it up special for him. My husband also went a little wild ordering all sorts of appetizers and side dishes. Now I don't like to deal in hyperbole. A five star rating should be sufficient praise. But I'm going to go overboard just this once: BEST INDIAN FOOD I'VE EVER EATEN IN A RESTAURANT. EVER. I've eaten in Indian restaurants at home in Chicago, in L.A., New York, St.Louis, Atlanta, San Francisco, etc., etc. etc. Many have been good, but none approached this. We ate every scrap of all the food we ordered, and only because we had a tight timeline and a busy itinerary for our brief visit to London did we not go back for at least a second meal.

Also ordered chicken curry, chicken korma, lamb tikka biryani, garlic naan...all very tasty. Mango lassi was great too, one of the best I've had. My husband, I and our two sons thought it was very good. Our 11 year old is pretty picky and gave it a 10/10. The service was great too! Highly recommend.

We had the vegetable korma, cauliflower bhaji and dill & mustard appetizer as takeaway…read more The cauliflower and salmon dishes were tasty, albeit very greasy. The korma was overly sweet and almost like a dessert. Overall not bad, but better could be had at nearby establishments. The service was a little weird. They did not provide any utensils with the takeaway, which seems common at South Asian restaurants in London, but this is the first place that refused to provide them when I asked. If you are going to order takeaway from here, make sure you have forks and spoons handy.

i wanted to have as much indian food as i could before returning to north america so i sought out…read moreindian restaurants in different areas of london. i found the curry mahal on trip advisor and glad i did. the place is very classy: white cloth, shiny cutlery, bright decor, etc. the food is probably considered mid range in london standard. the portions are big. i ordered king prawns in a bhuna sauce, saag paneer, papadum, and rice. the entree of king prawns with rice would have been enough so i ended up taking leftovers back that lasted for breakfast and lunch the next day. the food is very tasty, spicy, medium heat, which is what i want. not greasy at all! i guess this is what you pay for fresh taste-intensive indian food vs going to a take out place. i love the tomato-based bhuna sauce and the king prawns are very fresh and cooked just right.i will go back there for sure, probably with true, good friends who enjoy a high quality spicy meal.
