This is my go to place for authentic south indian food - specifically flavors and dishes from the state of Kerala (home for me!!). The flavors are spot on and the options 100% legit! I would recommend the appam (rice bread), beef ulathiyathe (kerala style beef roast/ fry), the biryani, chicken varatharacha curry (traditional chicken curry - spicy), fish mollee (pan cooked fish with thick onion based gravy on top), cheera kootta (spinach curry), koon curry (mushroom curry) for those trying out the cusine first time. We were looking for a place to eat after spending a tough day out with kids, pumpkins picking before Halloween. We had a craving for some South Indian, Kerala in particular. Searches on Yelp and the closest decent one was Anjanaas. We had come across Anjanaas as they had catered to an event we had participated and food wasn't bad so decided to head out there. But was tough to get there as we had to drive through central London. It took more than expected time to get there but we had called in advance and had booked a table. The place is small,sparingly furnished and has probably 2 staff. The lady who attended us was very helpful and was from our part of the world and my foodie senses suggested that food was likely to be authentic. We needn't have booked table in advance as we were the only ones. We ordered the standard South Indian fare. Dosas, chicken 65, Beef Ularthiyathu (roast/pan fried beef with spices and coconut), Kottyam chicken curry, parotta (a kind of flaky bread that the Malaysian Roti chanai is based on) Malabar biriyani etc. When I checked into Yelp it popped up an offer - 20% off and I was thrilled. But upon equity the staff said that they had no agreement with Yelp so was tad disappointed. I guess the offer is invalid and needs to be removed. The food over all was mixed bag ok - beef was average, chicken curry was lip smacking but biriyani was a let down. Personally biggest disappointment was the parotta, parotta is like the pancake of Kerala, basic receipe difficult to get wrong if you have a skilled Parotta maker. In fact most of the Parotta makers in Malaysia are from Kerala. However at Anjanaas I felt that they used off the shelf frozen Parotta and not made fresh onsite. Having said, the place does serve pretty authentic Kerala food and I might visit once again and give it one more try. Recommended. read more

Date: Monday 23.07.18 Time: 19.30pm Had the following dishes: B.D.F (BEEF DRY FRY) - Amazing Crispy Beef Starter - Highly recommend this dish. Full of flavour and spice. BEEF ULARTHU - Also called as Beef Fry in Kerala. The most popular and the best Beef preparation in Kerala. Dry preparation of Beef cooked in traditional Kerala style with aromatic ground spices, onion, ginger, garlic and curry leaves. When the beef curry is reduced of its sauce in slow heat, all the flavours and taste are absorbed into the tender beef. A Must try Dish from Kerala - I must say this was another favourite of mine which some great spices and not something i have tried before but I will be sure to have this dish again. Beef was so succulent and the spices are to remember for sure. LAMB MASALA DOSA - Rice and lentil pancake stuffed with mildly seasoned potato and Lamb served with sambar and chutneys - I have never seen a lamb version of this dish but i have had a duck version from another place and i am sorry to say there is not much flavour in this version so would either stick to the normal version or skip this as you can get better in other places. MALABAR LAMB BIRIYANI - Biriyani is a favourite Indian dish made with rice and meat, fish or vegetables. Our biriyanis have an indigenous recipe from Malabar (North Kerala). This delicacy from the Malabar region of Kerala is very popular among the biriyani lovers. Long grained rice flavoured with exotic spices like saffron, nutmeg, cardamom, clove, cinnamon etc are layered with lamb, chicken, fish or vegetables and cooked in a thick gravy. All our biriyanis are served with raita and pickle. A nice dish with egg as well which worked well but i must say the other beef dishes were so good it took the edge of this as there was less taste and seemed more like the usual biriyani just with the egg. Not a bad dish but there are better dishes on the menu worth getting instead. GULAAB JAMUN - This delicious Indian dessert is a soft, melt-in-mouth, fried dumplings traditionally made of thickened or reduced milk, soaked in rose flavoured sugar syrup served with vanilla ice cream. Served warm and large balls which i was told is home made which i believe but i think there were a few issue in that there was little too much syrup and the outside was not crispy but the centre was nice and fluffy. Unfortunately i really wanted to like this dish but there are better places Cost: £200 for 9 of us. Conclusion: Not a bad location as it is located within easy each of a number of tube and train stations and very good friendly service. I was in a large group hence i did not really get to try all the dishes ordered or was able to take any photos so i plan to go again to do another full review. They have a large menu which usually means quality of the food suffers but the beef dishes were excellent and there are a lot of dishes i have never heard of so i want to come back to try some more. Geeta is no longer the name of this restaurant. So if you're driving or walking down Willesden looking for it, you'll be traversing back and forth unless you look for its new name, Ajaanda. Okay, you Brits will have to take this review with a grain of salt, as I'm an American whose knowledge of Indian food is limited, and from the decent-to-good Indian restaurants I know from my hometown, Chicago. Not exactly a locus of Indian cuisine. The meze starter included yoghurt dip, pickled chilis and cucumber/onion in vinegar with a very thin, light, crispy flat bread (I'm sure there are correct Indian names for all these items, but, unfortunately I didn't order so I don't know them). This was prepared well, fresh and a reasonable serving for a starter. My friend and I followed that up with Malabar Prawn Curry, a mild curry but flavorfully seasoned, rice and Vegetable Korma. I ate until I couldn't put another bite in my mouth. Tasty and abundant! If you're a fan of the hotter Southern Indian cooking, the menu is accommodating, as it also is with a good selection of vegetarian options and variety of breads. The storefront restaurant is not impressive but the quality of food, value for the price and lovely service by people who want you to be pleased is worth seeking it out. read more

Oh Anjaanas! How I miss thee!! Been eating here for 3 years (once a week!!!) Amazing service with mind blowing food. I bring everyone here when they come to visit me and they are equally mind blown and have withdrawals My favourites are the Lamb Ulyarithu, Malabar Biryani and Lamb Dosa, Egg Moily and Chicken Maliperalan. I liked Indian food. Then I loved it. Anjanaas is not your boilerplate, tikka masala, northern Indian restaurant. It's menu is taken from the traditional cousin of Kerala, the state located in the south-west on the Malabar coast. It's tropical, sea-shore food, with loads of mango, tropical fruit and fish cooked all the ways you have ever wanted. The flavours are complex, exciting and--for me--completely unfamiliar. If you're tentative about anything on the menu, ask a server or the owner (also the head chef) and they will help you navigate a very rewarding terrain of good food. Tried this place to make a bit of a change from Vijays down the road. Like Vijays this serves South Indian style food too, and it also tastes great. Again it's not the boring Indian affair where all the curries taste the same. It must be tough being almost next doors to the well known Vijays, but Anjanna's is up there in terms of taste. Very high quality South Indian menu including excellent dosas. Also very inexpensive. Have been coming here a number of years and it's consistently good. Currently they do a 'business lunch' weekdays which is a dosa ( note not a masala dosa), rice and several curries and chutneys for the amazing price of £4.95. Authentic Kerala cuisine in London. This restaurant is a real gem! In particular, I really enjoyed the ularthiyathu. If you don't know what that is, then you really should come here and find out! The restaurant also serves more ubiquitous South Indian dishes such as dosa. They also make the typical North Indian dishes you would find in more typical high street Indian restaurants. read more

We went to lunch at anjanaas. Both of us are south India. The place was busy, the food was decent. They seemed to use canned coconut milk in their food - which makes the curries kinda goopy. Food wasn't amazing, but wasn't terrible. It's not super expensive, and I guess you get what you pay for. read more

Very authentic Kerala cuisine. Had 2 experiences over the last couple of weeks - while one was to satisfy my native mallu food cravings, especially traditional non-veg fare, the other was with my wife's vegetarian family exploring their veg options.
