Deen Gross Eye Center is not accessible for anyone in a wheelchair. The doors do not have auto openers, the rooms are tight, and the equipment does not go low enough to accommodate those that cannot stand. And by equipment I mean the machines that measure your eye, the machine you look into for pressures with the puff of air and the lenses that come down when you read the chart. None of this is accessible. I will be writing an ADA complaint. They overschedule people so the line to check in goes out into the hallway. Today i waited 25 minutes just to get to the desk to check in. That is 15 minutes past my appointment. And the doctor is really bad with older clients. He assumes they are all deaf and constantly yells at them. If you have parkinsons, they cannot accommodate you not being able to hold your chin in the form or your forehead on the bar. The will yell at you like you have control over this and then force your head against the bar. This is the most inefficient place with the rudest doctors I have ever visited read more

I cannot express just how grateful I am to Dr Gross for the successfully helping me to regain my vision. I have had to wear glasses since I was in 2nd grade, over 55 years ago! My vision was so bad for so long. This has been a dream for most of my life, and now it is has come true. He made it stress free and the staff there is wonderful. I just had Lasik Eye Surgery a week ago done by Dr. Gross and LOVE IT!! I was scared to have it done but was amazed how well it turned out and I can see 20/20 now. I was so impressed with how calm, patient and wonderful Dr. Gross and his staff was. I highly highly recommend the office. I personally have seen all 3 doctors and recommend them all. You have to put 1 star to leave a review. PATIENTS NEEDING OPHTHALMOLOGY CARE BEWARE OF DR. JEFFREY L. NELSON & STAFF! PLEASE, WE BEG YOU TO USE ANOTHER HEALTHCARE FACILITY. PLEASE DO NOT LET THEM DO TO YOU WHAT THEY DID TO US! My husband needed emergency eye surgery due to metal getting lodged in his right eye. The attending physician at the e.r. scheduled the procedure w/ Dr. Jeffrey L. Nelson. We were very skeptical b/c after researching this Dr., we found out he has only been in practice for 6 yrs & is not part of any outside organizations & not accredited by any medical associations. We should have heeded our own doubts b/c I have never been defrauded & treated like this by a Dr.'s office in my life & I have a lot of health issues so I have been to many, many Dr.'s & offices. My husband said he was working w/ Medicaid to get insurance & the e.r. Dr. said this office has to take you & do the surgery regardless of ability to pay or insurance status b/c it was an emergency. The day of the surgery, I dropped my husband off, left, & was going to pick him up when it was over. BIG MISTAKE! He was immediately treated very rudely by the front desk lady & was told he had to pay for the surgery up front, in full. My husband stated we could not afford that & he was waiting on Medicaid's acceptance which they would then cover the procedure since they cover stuff up to 90 days prior to acceptance. The lady said that was fine but he had to at least pay FIVE DOLLARS up front. My husband said that was fine.They then proceeded w/ the surgery, dilated BOTH EYES, even though it was only the R eye they were working on, then when it was over & he was 100% blind & back at the front desk, the lady said "ok, that will be 370." Not, "that will be 3 hundred & seventy dollars(which was already told to them we could not pay for the entire procedure up front.)She just said "ok, that will be 370." in which my husband responded quite clearly & loudly(my husband is extremely boisterous & this is a very small, quiet office) "Oh, I only have to pay 3 DOLLARS AND SEVENTY CENTS? You 1st told me FIVE DOLLARS but hey, 3 DOLLARS & SEVENTY CENTS is even less, thank you, I appreciate this."(ACTUALLY THANKED THEM FOR BARLEY CHARGING US ANYTHING THAT DAY)the office lady said nothing & proceeded to charge our card for 3 HUNDRED & SEVENTY DOLLARS! Mind you, my husband is completely blind at the moment & I'm not there yet, he did not sign for the transaction or put in a pin #. She then folded up the receipt & told him to stick it in his pocket. B/c of this FRAUDULENT TRANSACTION, our bank acct was almost emptied & we had to barrow from family to pay our Nipsco bill. We are not Dr.'s. We are normal, lower-middle class people w/ 4 small children. This amount of $ FRAUDULENTLY taken from us affected us greatly, my husband repeatedly told Dr. Nelson's staff we could NOT afford the full amount, that Medicaid would reimburse them for the surgery, He had BOTH EYES DILATED FOR NO REASON, & our card was ran for hundreds of dollars knowing full well my husband thought it was being ran for 3 DOLLARS & SOME CHANGE. That is FRAUD! When we found this out the next day, my husband called Dr. Nelson's office, explained what happened & asked "what are you going to do about this issue?" Dr. Nelson's billing lady answered "this is what we are going to do, keep you scheduled for the follow up appt. b/c now you don't owe us any $." & started chuckling. My husband posted a Yelp review about the incident, Dr. Nelson talked to my husband personally, begging him to take the review down & acted like he knew nothing of what his personnel had done, said he'd review his cameras b/c they have sound & if he heard what my husband claimed, he would not charge us. My husband immediately took the review off Yelp, we waited a week, & never heard from Dr. N again. Dr. Nelson never planned on reviewing any security tapes b/c we know full well he was the 1 who told his staff to run the card for the full amnt b/c my husband wouldn't be able to see anyway & to see if the transaction would go through. This amnt of $ is pittance to a Dr. It is absolutely sick to DEFRAUD a patient like that by telling them they owe a small dollar amount & then running their card for hundreds of dollars instead, a patient who cannot see, has nobody with him to see for him, & has told you repeatedly they could not afford to pay the full amount of the surgery & that they will have insurance covering it soon. I will never go back to this office and advise others to not go as well. I had an appointment at 3:00pm and was not seen till 5:15pm. The front desk personnel were rude and tried to make me feel stupid when I tried to explain what a High deductible plan was and that I had met my deductible for the year- so no there won't be a co payment today. After sitting in the waiting room for hours I was finally seen by Dr. Nelson and have never had a Dr. be so rude to me in my entire life. He talked down to me and really didn't listen to me as I was explaining my issue. I feel like this office is not doing best practice as well and might be over billing customers. I feel like its a scheme to get people coming in every two weeks to "check" on your eyes and then be issued another set of drops bc of pressure.
