This was my first time going Clay Shooting. I don't have much to compare this place to, but I had such a great time, I have to give it 5 stars! This was a birthday surprise for my husband. He had no idea where we were going and when we arrived, his friends were waiting there for him. Our friends brought guns & ammo. The cost was $27 per person but no charge for those of us who just wanted to hang out without shooting clays. There are 13 shooting stations with an easy walk between each station. Most had 2 different tile machines that shot out tiles in different speeds as targets at each station. We were given a counter that kept track of how many tiles we used. The whole course took us (4 shooters) a little more than 2 hours. It was a super fun day! Everyone was super nice when we signed in. read more

First time back to Deep River Sporting Clays in a couple of years. It was nice not to have to take a caddie with us this time. The only downside is we did not bring our own guns this time. We were surprised that we were only able to take out 1 gun with 4 shooters shooting 50 rounds a piece. That gun was cooking when we were done. Still like this place. It has 13 holes and you have to make a lot of different shots. If you are flying into Raleigh Durham and headed to play golf in Pinehurst consider stopping and shooting a round of sporting clays. It is good fun and will make golf look like a simple game. read more

I found this place on Yelp when I was looking for a fun activity to do while visiting my daughter. I called first and Jeff was super accommodating of my limited availability. We arrived and Jeff got us checked in and introduced us to our instructor John. John was very thorough explaining everything to us from gun safety to the various methods of clay shooting and helping us figure out which eye was dominant. We had lots of opportunities to shoot. John congratulated us on every hit and he was a very patient instructor with our misses explaining why we missed. After the lesson, John and Jeff both invited us back and John gave us a tour of the property and showed us the MANY stations and told us about all the fun they have on weekends and hosting competitions. This was our first time shooting a shotgun. John made it a lot of fun while also being very serious about safety. Overall, John and Jeff deserve 10 stars! read more

We went to Deep River for help selling a trap shotgun which is something we do not deal in. We are a defensive training company and FFL who deal mostly with defensive firearms and not sporting firearms. The staff at Deep River was knowledgeable and friendly. They helped us evaluate the shotgun and come up with value and sale price that would make our customer happy. The overall experience was rare in the firearms industry as one of the reasons we obtained our own FFL was to avoid most gun stores! But these guys and gals were great! We believe some of that is because most of them are instructors as well. We will be referring any of our students who are interested in skeet and trap to them from now on. read more

Scott checked us in and cashed us out and was rude in every interaction. It was clear we weren't welcome. I was with my husband and his classmate (both former marines) on a rare Saturday that we all had time to enjoy the outdoors. It was my first time going shooting and I was excited to try, but he gave us attitude when we asked for a lighter weight rifle for me. Also I found it extremely strange that we all had to pay a rental fee per person to use 1 gun. If we are each paying a rental fee, we should each of a gun in our hands, imho. Overall we paid $150 and drove 2 hours round trip to get scoffed at and made to feel unwelcome. Frankly, the only reason this review is not 1 star is because the guide that took us around the range was nice, but not enough to make up for Scott's bad attitude. We won't be back, and I'll make sure to let our classmates at 2 very large schools not to bother either. read more

I was a complete novice, having never shot a gun before. Deep River was very welcoming, supportive and helpful in getting us started. Since then I have been eight or so times and each time the staff has been welcoming and respectful, even though we are not regulars, and still pretty green. I finally took a lesson -- which I should have done much earlier -- and Chuck was really an encouraging teacher with lots of good tips. Clearly, practice is also needed! Shooting is challenging, and that is much of the fun. So when you actually hit something it is very satisfying. There is a lot of skill involved. Deep River itself is a really nice course and the walk between targets is quite enjoyable. They rent all of the equipment you will need, but of course you can bring your own gun if you have one. read more

We enjoyed course and our interactions with the guide (I would give the course itself five stars). However, they were not upfront about pricing and we ended up paying $187 for three people to rent 1 shared gun (+ammo) and use the sporting clays course. For such a high sticker price we should have been notified up front about prices (I do recognize that I could have clarified pricing but I just expected it to be more inline with pricing at other ranges). read more

Deep River has a beautiful 13 station sporting clays course, with a great layout and challenging targets. The best part, however, was the staff. The guys at Deep River were extremely friendly and welcoming, unlike some of the folks at other area clubs. I have shot this course several times and it's always a great time at Deep River. They have achieved the hard to come by goal of having a challenging course but not so hard as to discourage anyone !! The pro shop has everything that one would need to have an enjoyable experience here. A wide variety of fine guns for sale with plenty of accessories to go along with them. Deep River Sporting Clays is an awesome facility with a great staff and friendly attitude. I always feel welcome and have been treated like an "old friend" since the first time I started shooting there 5 or 6 years ago, even though I live about an hour away and can only visit a few times a year. I have been hunting and shooting for over 50 years, and my experience here rates at the top. The course is always in good shape, is laid out well with a variety of challenging targets. The staff is gracious, friendly and helpful in every way, and I have observed them treat all their guests in a similar manner. I've shot at a number of sporting clays courses in the area and from here to Orlando FL to the Maryland eastern shore, and this ranks up there with the best. I would recommend this to anyone for an enjoyable shooting experience. read more
